Glen E. Plowman and Arlene L. Plowman

Glen E. Plowman of St. Johns, passed away on February 22, 2022 at The Maples of St. Johns and Arlene L. Plowman passed away on February 2, 2018 at Hazel Findlay Country Manor. Glen and Arlene were married on September 2, 1950 and enjoyed sixty-eight years together.

Glen was born on March 13, 1927, the son of Clyde and Hazel Foerch Plowman in Greenbush Twp, Michigan. He was a 1945 graduate of Rodney B. Wilson. He joined the Navy during World War II on April 16, 1945 and was honorably discharged on August 2, 1946. He was stationed in China on the USS Blackhawk. He worked at Hettler Motors for over forty years and volunteered at the produce food bank for Volunteers of America for more than twenty five years. He enjoyed bowling, golf and having coffee in the morning at Bruno’s.

Arlene was born on January 31, 1926, the daughter of John and Auerilla Baur Baumgartner in Bingham Twp., Michigan. She worked in retail sales for several years and enjoyed knitting and quilting.

Surviving are children, Gwen Plowman of St. Johns and Port Charlotte, Florida and James (Deborah) Plowman of Ovid; Arlene’s daughter, Linda Bryant of St. Johns; grandchildren, Eric (Mary), Nick (Crystal Sidel) and Adam (Alissa) Plowman, Daniel (Lisa) and Eric Forman, Teysha George; 7 great granddaughters and four great grandsons; Glen’s sister, Ruth (Dick) Root; Arlene’s sisters, Delores Johnson of Florida and Pat Marton of St. Johns. They were preceded in death by their parents and Arlene’s sisters, Helen Baumgartner, Shirley Baumgartner and Dorothy Berlin and her brother, Carl Baumgartner.

The family would like to thank Tom and Jodi from Elara Care, Howard (Jack) Weyers at Family and Elder Law, Katy Johnson, Tammy Hernandez, Dr. Holhzei and The Maples of St. Johns for the excellent care given to their dad.

A Memorial Service for Glen and Arlene will be held at McGeehan Funeral Home, Keck-Coleman Chapel, 1500 Waterford Pkwy, St. Johns on Friday, March 11, 2022 at 11 AM. Military honors and a luncheon will follow. Interment of ashes will take place at Mount Rest Cemetery, St. Johns. Friends may visit McGeehan Funeral Home, St. Johns on Thursday, March 10, 2022 from 5-8 PM and on Friday from 10 AM until the time of the service.

Memorial contributions may be made in Glen’s name to The Maples of St. Johns. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.


Marilyn Jane Kiel

Marilyn Jane Kiel, age 85, passed away in St. Johns, February 22, 2022.

She was born September 9, 1936 in Portland, Mich., the daughter of Bernard and Mary (Gross) Platte. She graduated from Portland St. Patrick High school and married Gordon Kiel on Oct. 6, 1956. Together they loved to shop antiques, play cards and vacation in northwest Michigan’s Otter Lake with their three children. They were married for 56 years and he preceded her in death, April 22, 2013. Marilyn was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend.

Surviving are her children Lee Ann Lawrence of Lansing, Brian and Mary Kiel of West Chicago, and Chris and Jennifer Kiel of St. Johns; grandchildren Zachary, Samantha, Caitlin, Mikaela, Marianne, Seth, Victoria (Andre) McDuffey, Elizabeth (Andrew) Rogers, Jessie, Emily (Tyler) Malkin, and Hunter; great granddaughters, Audrey Lawrence, Lilyana Lawrence and Nora McDuffey; great grandson, Tucker Malkin; and siblings Lee, Julius, Laura Stegenga, Paul and Steve. In addition to Gordon and her parents, she was preceded in death by siblings Herb, Stan and Alice McCausey.

Her first job was working for Michigan Bell and then for many years provided home child care. Her last job was a supervisor in the bindery department for Spartan Printing. She loved and worshiped the Lord and was a member of the St. Isidore Catholic Church in Laingsburg. The Lord has surely made a resting place for her. She will be missed and remembered fondly.

A Memorial Mass will be held Saturday, Feb. 26, 11 a.m. at St. Isidore Catholic Church, 310 N Crum St, Laingsburg, Michigan. A luncheon will follow at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family appreciates donations made to St. Isidore Catholic Church or St. Vincent de Paul.

Jaron Logan Czachowrski

Jaron Logan Czachowrski, age 26, of St. Johns, MI, passed away Sunday, February 20, 2022.

A Memorial Service will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes Ithaca, MI, at 1:00 P.M. on Saturday, February 26, 2022, with Pastor Nathan Workman officiating. Visitation will be held on Friday, February 25, 2022 from 2-8 P.M. with family present from 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. at the funeral home.

Jaron was born in Carson City, Michigan on February 1, 1996, the son of Edward and Kerri (Marcy) Czachowrski. He graduated from Ithaca High School with the class of 2015. Jaron proudly served his country in the United States Army.

Kerri and Edward’s beloved son Jaron Logan Czachowrski loved to create and his imagination had no bounds. He marched to the beat of his own drum proudly. He was an extremely smart, complex person that was a bit of a perfectionist and always focused on the task at hand. Whether it was digital media, sculptures, paintings, beats or rapping he showed true talent and passion for it all.

He was a strong athlete that excelled in football and wrestling which prepared him for his difficult but exciting time in the National Guard where he received high ranks and was the proud leader of his unit. Family and friends have forever been a light in Jaron’s life and when he returned from the military that was even truer.

If you were lucky enough to have a conversation with Jaron you could feel how much he loved his family and friends and how they were the most important thing in his life. He was the life of the party when he wanted to be and could bring a smile or laugh to anyone’s face without even trying. He enjoyed snowboarding, learning, creating, laughing and loving his family and friends. Jaron loved looking up to the clouds and the night sky while asking life’s biggest questions with those he was closest to. He will always be our dreamer with the heart of a lion.

He is survived by his mother Kerri and Josh Yelsik of Ashley, MI; father Edward Czachowrski of Sumner, MI; siblings: Jenni and George Ullery of Midland, MI; Maliah Czachowrski of East Lansing, MI; Kaelin Czachowrski and Janessa Davis of Alma, MI; Muryn Czachowrski of Lansing, MI; Ryder Yelsik of Ashley, MI; Brenlee Yelsik of Ashley, MI; nephews: Ezra, Brantley, and Bronxx; grandparents: DeWayne and Brenda Marcy of Sumner, MI; Betty Czachowrski of Sumner, MI; Charles and Jody Yelsik of Ashley, MI; uncles and aunts: Jason and Mandy Marcy of Ithaca, MI; Brent Marcy of Brooklyn, NY; Bill and Kari Czachowrski of Sumner, MI; Cindy and Randy Everetts of Sumner, MI; Donna Sangster of St. Louis, MI. Terri Lee Maki

Terri Lee (Henderson) Maki, age 75, of Perrinton, MI, passed away Wednesday, February 23, 2022, at her home surrounded by her family.

Visitation for family and friends will be held on Monday, February 28, 2022, from 2-4 P.M. at Smith Family Funeral Homes – Osgood Chapel.

Terri was born in Lansing, Michigan on August 24, 1946, the daughter Don and Cora (Neyome) Henderson. On October 25, 1962, Terri married James Maki in Lansing. They were married 59 years.

Terri was proud of being a Saginaw Chippewa Native American and loved to be part of the traditional tribal events. She believed in the Native way and taught those ways to her family. She was a tribal dancer in her younger years and did beautiful beadwork. She was a classy lady and always liked to look nice. Terri and Jim loved traveling to Las Vegas, Hawaii, and all over the West. She enjoyed gambling at the casino. Terri was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and aunt. She loved her family and especially loved spending time with her grandson Landon.

Terri is survived by her husband Jim, son James Maki, grandson Landon Maki, and sister Marjorie Gordon. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers: Jerry Henderson, John “Butch” Henderson, Leo Jackson, and Ron Jackson.

Edith Marie Young

Edith Marie Young, age 80, of Laingsburg Michigan, passed away at home on Tuesday, February 22, 2022, surrounded by her family.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at the Catholic Community of St. Jude, 801 N. Bridge St., DeWitt, on Saturday, February, 26, at 11 AM with The Rev. David Speicher presiding. Burial will follow at Wilsey Cemetery. Visitation will be held at McGeehan Funeral Home, Keck-Coleman Chapel, 1500 Waterford Parkway, St. Johns on Friday, February 25, from 5-8 PM, with a Rosary at 7 PM, and on Saturday at the church from 10 AM until the time of Mass.

Edith was born in DeWitt, Michigan on September 27, 1941, the daughter of Russell and Coral (Banner) Howe. On October 19, 1985, she married Randall F. Young and they enjoyed many happy years together. Edith enjoyed spending time with her kids, grandkids and great grandkids, was a huge Detroit Redwings fan, loved her dogs and mowing the grass.

Edith is survived by children Tammy Ingalls, Kevin (Adrian) Young, Shelli (Jock) Young, and Scott (Theresa) Young; 12 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren, brother Eugene (Sue) Howe, and special friends, Don and Kathy Hengsbach and Steve and Patty Lang. She is predeceased by her parents, Russell and Coral Howe; Mother of children, Maureen Young; son in law, Randy Ingalls; brother, James Russell Howe.

Memorials may be made in her name to McLaren Hospice or to the American Cancer Society.


Stanley Walter Hott

Stanley Walter Hott, 73, of Venice, FL, died Thursday, December 9, 2021 in Windsor of Venice Senior Living, Florida. He was born May 24, 1948 in St. Johns to Elwood and Florence (Chafee) Hott. He married Patricia Marie Hoadley on November 8, 1974 in East Lansing. She died July 6, 2018.

Stanley graduated from Rodney B. Wilson High School with the class of 1968. He grew up on a dairy farm and was a member of the Future Farmers of America during High School. Stanley worked for Portec Manufacturing in Ashley and later worked for Peckham in Lansing. Stan and Pat enjoyed traveling and did so extensively through the United States and Canada. They also enjoyed ocean cruises in the Caribbean. They were members of the 300 Blind Bowling League in Lansing. Stan and Pat moved from Lansing to Haines City, FL in 2011 and Stan moved to Venice, FL in 2020.

Stan and Pat did not have any children. Close friends include: Glen Schultz of MI; John (Bonnie) Coleman of MI; Andrew (Melissa) Leisenring of FL; Robert (Kim) Leisenring of MI; Ray (Madaline) Kircher of FL; Linda Hannum of OH; Dan Protrouski of OH; the Castner and Moore families of MI.

Interment will be in Elkland Township Cemetery on Thursday, June 16, 2022. Family and friends may share memories, prayers and photos with the family at www.kranzfuneralhome.com.


Brian Charles Ritter

Brian Charles Ritter, AKA “Critter”, age 66, of St. Johns, Michigan passed away on February 19, 2022 at Grace Haven Assisted Living, surrounded by his family.

A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, February 25, 2022 at 11 AM at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 109 Linden St, St Johns. The family will receive friends at McGeehan Funeral Home, Keck-Coleman Chapel, 1500 Waterford Pkwy, St. Johns from 4 – 8 PM, Wednesday, February 23 and again from 3 – 8 PM, Thursday, February 24, 2022 with a Rosary being prayed at 7 PM.

Brian was born on May 21, 1955 to Roland and Esther (Moore) Ritter in St. Johns, Michigan. He graduated from St. Johns High School, class of 1974. He then married the love of his life, Linda Thelen, on July 23, 1977. They shared 44 years of marriage.

During his life, Brian worked at General Motors for 30 years, then after retiring, he worked for the City of St Johns for 12 years. He was a lover of the outdoors. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and boating. He was also a fan of tinkering on cars, spending time at his cottage on 8-point lake, and watching TV. If it involved breakfast or eating out, Brian was in! Brian also was an assistant coach for youth soccer and baseball. Above everything, Brian loved spending time with his family and supporting his five grandchildren who adored their Papa.

During his younger years, he liked riding motorcycles and snowmobiles. Some say he “lived a wild past”, and he was always quick to remind them of that.

Brian is survived by his loving wife, Linda; children Jeremy (Janelle) Ritter, Jessica (Erik) Kosloski; grandchildren, Joslynn, Sophia, Jordyn, Skylar and Hunter; siblings, Dan (Linda) Ritter, Les (Rose) Ritter, Suanne (Jeff) Spicer; in-laws, Dave (Deb) Thelen, Ruth (Jerry) Armbrustmacher, Randy Croyle, Jim (Sandy) Thelen, Jerry (Sharon) Thelen, Donna (Doug) Pline, Rick (Shannon) Thelen, Larry (Sheehan) Thelen, Patti (Stacy) Darling; as well as many other loving family and friends. He is predeceased by his parents; parents-in-law, Elmer (Wilma) Thelen; sister, Susan; sister-in-law, Terese Croyle; stepfather, Cliff Carey; and his best buddy, Smokey, The Cat.

The Family would like to extend a special thanks to the Oncology team at the University of Michigan, who helped combat Brian’s 2-year battle with cancer, as well as Grace Haven and Laurus Hospice for the amazing care they showed him in his final days.


Lolita May Kristofferson

Lolita May (Fowler) Kristofferson, of St. Johns and formerly of Benzonia, died on February 19, 2022. She was 87 years old.

Lolita was born on July 19, 1934 in Elberta, Michigan, one of seven children born to Floyd A. and Lucille (Green) Fowler. On August 16, 1952, Lolita married Robert Aage Kristofferson and the young couple raised their six children in Bath, Michigan. Following Robert’s retirement from General Motors in 1986, Robert and Lolita moved to their eighty-acre homestead in Benzonia, where they lived for over thirty years. Each year, they looked forward to spending winters in Florida. For the past five years, Lolita has been back in St. Johns where she enjoyed spending time with her family, starting each morning with a game of Yahtzee and coloring picture books. She was also an avid knitter and made many blankets and shawls over the years. She will be forever remembered for her kind spirit and loving nature.

She is survived by her children, Laurene Kristofferson, Darlene Basinger, Calvin Kristofferson, Robert (Korine) Kristofferson, Marlene (Greg) Gage and Diane Kristofferson; seventeen grandchildren, many great-grandchildren great-great grandchildren; sister, Shirley Harris; brother, Everett (Sandy) Fowler, as well as nieces, nephews, extended family members and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Kristofferson of forty-nine years; her parents; four brothers, Edward, Floyd, Louis and Larry Fowler and grandsons, Skyler and Jason.

A Memorial Service will be held at McGeehan Funeral Home, Keck-Coleman Chapel, 1500 Waterford Pkwy, St. Johns on Friday, March 4, 2022 at 5 PM, with visitation beginning at 4 PM.


Louis Elden Anderson

Louis Elden Anderson, age 88, of St. Johns, MI, passed away surrounded by his family on Saturday, February 19, 2022, at McLaren Greater Lansing Hospital, Lansing, MI.

Funeral Services will be held at Pilgrim United Methodist Church, 2965 West Parks Road, St. Johns, MI, at 1:00 P.M. on Wednesday, February 23, 2022, with Pastor Andy Croel officiating. Burial will take place at Mt. Rest Cemetery, St. Johns, MI. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 23, 2022 11:00 A.M. until the time of the funeral at the church.

He was born January 11th, 1934, in St. Johns, Michigan, the son of Clyde and Rilla Anderson. He married Norita Bebow on February 22, 1975 in St. Johns, MI. Louie was a member of Pilgrim United Methodist Church.

He served proudly in the United States Navy from 1952-1956, was a member of North-South Skirmish Association (NSSA), Hub Antique Car Club, he was a master carpenter and truly enjoyed building things for his family. He was an avid sportsman loved hunting, fishing, and being outdoors, he loved his annual trips to the U.P. and wintered in Florida for 19 years.

He is survived by Norita Anderson; his children: Debbie (Ken) Kight, Craig (Carolyn) Smith, Bryan (Ellie) Smith, Julie (Jeff) Brown, and Louis “Sonny” Anderson; grandchildren: Josh Smith, Andrea Kight, Michael Brown, Amanda Kight, Alexis Hagan, Lindsey Scott, Kayli Ferrara, Samantha Schumacher, Teresa, Brandon, and Michael Anderson; eleven great-grandchildren; and siblings: Helen Todd, and Earl Anderson, sister-in-law Lavoyda Anderson; and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; his children: Roger Anderson, and Beth Anderson; grandson Brent Brown; siblings: Wanda Ryan, Adelbert Anderson, Sam Anderson, Carol Wallace, Lois Glass, and Hilda Bancroft.

Marcia Ann Ferretti

Marcia Ann Ferretti, age 75, of Perrinton, MI, passed away Friday, February 18, 2022, at Sparrow Hospital, Lansing, MI.

A cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at a later date. She will be buried next to her daughter in Sowle Cemetery.

Marcia was born in St. Johns, Michigan on December 30, 1946, the daughter of Alexander Samson and Shirley Frances (Archer) Craner. She graduated from Fulton High School with the class with the class of 1965. She later earned a Bachelors’ Degree in Urban Development from MSU.

Marcia worked for MESC over 30 years. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. She was also a member of the DAR and the OES. Marcia was a diehard member of the Democrat Party. Marcia was proud of her Scottish roots and looked forward to the annual Huntly Family Reunion. She loved her family and enjoyed family camping trips to Harwick Pines, Tehquamenon Falls, and many other adventures. She liked garage sales and finding a next good deal.

Marcia is survived by her son Tony (Patty) Ferretti of Perrinton, MI; 5 grandchildren: Aaron Matson, Maria Sanchez, Josh Smith, Jessica Smith, and Jason Smith; and 12 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, daughter Jamie Ferretti, and one brother Bob Morris.

Thomas Lee Kyle

Thomas Lee Kyle, a long time resident of Pewamo, former resident of Pontiac, Waterford, and St. Johns, and native of Alabama, died on February 15, 2022 at the age of 81.

Tom was born in Alabama on January 6, 1941, the son of Emil Carl Kyle and Pearl Evelyn Opal (Standridge) Kyle. At a young age he moved to Pontiac, Michigan where he attended Pontiac High School and met the love of his life, Mari Riker. They wed in Pontiac and were blessed with the births of two children. Tom, a great salesman, served as a regional sales manager and later Vice President with a picture frame company, before starting his own business, Service Associates in St. Johns, providing manufacturer representatives to local retailers.

Tom’s favorite times were spent on the golf course. Nothing gave him greater joy than opportunities to enjoy a round of golf with his children, and his grandchildren, whom he taught the joys of golfing at a young age. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather and he will be dearly missed.

He is survived by Mari, his beloved wife of over sixty-one years; his son, David (Karla) Kyle; his daughter, Sherry Kyle (fiance, Keith Pierce); grandchildren, Bliss Kyle, Jason Kyle, BreAnn (Kyle) Johnson, Joshua (Amber) Hardman, Carolynn Duguay (fiance, Tamer Hourani); great grandchildren, Brandon and Jordan Lippincott, Katelyn, Hailey, and Zane Miller, Atticus, Silas, and Kasper Johnson, Weston, Payton, Olivia, and Emma Hardman; sisters, Margarete (the late Al) Landers and Elaine (the late Reggie) Campbell; brother-in-law, William “Butch” Riker, and many nieces, nephews, and dear friend Marvin Lovegrove. He was preceded in death by a brother, Bobby (Helen) Kyle, and sister, Reba (Gaylon) Fairbanks.

A Funeral Service will be held at McGeehan Funeral Home, Keck-Coleman Chapel, 1500 Waterford Parkway, St. Johns, on Thursday, February 24, at 12 Noon. Friends may gather from 10AM until the time of service. Memorials may be made in his name to the American Diabetes Association.
