Mary Eileen Thelen

Mary “Eileen” Thelen, 92, of Fowler, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 5, 2020.

Eileen was the daughter of Casper and Vera (Schafer) Cook. She was a member of Most Holy Trinity Church and the Christian Mothers. It was her faith and family that were most important to her. Eileen enjoyed volunteer work, card games, travel, and the Detroit Tigers.

She is survived by one sister, Bertine Thelen. Also surviving are two daughters: Louise (Neil) Becker, and Cheryl (Ken) Kyte, four sons: Clifford (Gloria) Thelen, Glenn (Ruth) Thelen, Kurt (Julie) Thelen, and Tim (Kathy) Thelen, 15 grandchildren, and 24 great grandchildren. All of them are so grateful for their loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was greatly loved and our memories of her will be cherished. She was preceded in death by her husband Marvin Thelen, son Tony Thelen, sister Joan Raddatz, brother Phil Cook, and her parents.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Fowler, MI, on Friday, October 9, 2020 at 10:30 A.M., with Rev. Fr. Peter Lawrence presiding. Burial will take place at Most Holy Trinity Cemetery Fowler, MI. Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 8, 2020 from 2-8 P.M. with the family receiving friends from 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. at Smith Family Funeral Homes – Goerge Chapel, Fowler, MI.

Memorial contributions may be made to Most Holy Trinity Educational Trust Fund or the charity of your choice. The family is being served by Smith Family Funeral Homes – Goerge Chapel, Fowler, MI.

Dale Hosking, 75, passed away Monday, October 5, 2020, at his home in St. Johns, MI.

Per his wishes he was cremated and no service will be held.

Leon Herbert Armbrustmacher

Leon Herbert Armbrustmacher, age 84, of St. Johns, MI, passed away Monday, October 5, 2020, at his home.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Fowler, MI, on Thursday, October 8, 2020 at 10:30 A.M., with Rev. Fr. Eric Weber officiating. Burial will take place at Most Holy Trinity Cemetery, Fowler, MI. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 7, 2020 from 2-8 P.M. with family present from 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. at Smith Family Funeral Homes – Goerge Chapel, Fowler, MI. Rosary will be prayed on Wednesday at 2:00 P.M. at the funeral home.

Leon was born in St. Johns, MI on August 6, 1936, the son of Harold and Magdeline (Wieber) Armbrustmacher. Leon graduated from Fowler High School with the class of 1955. Leon married Marie Amelia Thelen on April 12, 1958, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Westphalia, MI.

Leon was a lifelong dairy farmer. He loved playing cards with his friends, watching MSU football and the Detroit Lions and Tigers. He liked spending time outdoors. He enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Leon was a member of Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church and of the Knights of Columbus.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years Marie, daughters: Debra (Lynn) Denovich of St. Johns, MI, Susan (Bruce) Angell of Bath, MI, Kelly (Chris) Neumann of Lansing, MI, 3 grandchildren: Jason (Amber) Denovich, Emily Angell, and Alicia Angell; and 3 great-grandchildren: Owen, Axel, and Thea Denovich. He is also survived by brothers: Dr. Vernon and Carolyn Armbrustmacher, Clair and Karen Armbrustmacher, William and Mary Armbrustmacher and brothers in law: William and Joan Thelen, Robert and Mary Ellen Thelen, Ervin and Mary Jane Thelen, Gary and Linda Thelen, and sisters in law: Jeanette and Joe Pung, Kathy and John Eklund, and Ann Thelen. Leon was preceded in death by his parents, in laws Leonard and Marian Thelen, brother Mark Armbrustmacher, sister Janet (Howard) Whitney and brothers in law: Reynold and Leon Thelen.

John Jacob Seyrek

John Jacob Seyrek, age 88, of St. Johns, MI, passed away Thursday, October 1, 2020 at his home.

Private Services will be held at at Smith Family Funeral Homes – Osgood Chapel, St. Johns, MI, at 1:00 P.M. on Wednesday, October 7, 2020, with Pastor Jeff Reser officiating. Burial will take place at Eureka Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 12:00 noon until the time of service.

John was born in St. Johns, Michigan on January 5, 1932, the son of Joseph and Catherine (Zabelka) Seyrek. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was a farmer who enjoyed hunting and fishing. John worked for the State of Michigan as a heavy equipment operator until his retirement.

He is survived by 4 daughters: Debbie Johnson, Cathy Chenny, Valerie and Alan Nelkie, April and John Steele; his son John Seyrek. He was predeceased by his parents, his son Steve and a brother Joe.

Luane Lumbert

Luane “Lumpy” Lumbert died Wednesday, September 30, 2020 at the age of 68. He was born in Detroit, MI on August 27, 1952, the son of Clifford and Nola (Gillett) Lumbert. “Lumpy” graduated from St. Johns High School, Class of 1971 and continued his education at Central Michigan University earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Parks and Recreation.

His love for his family was unmatched. Luane never hesitated to say how proud he was of them or say I love you. Time spent together was always looked forward to no matter the occasion. Traveling post retirement with his wife Cathy, the love of his life, became a new favorite hobby. Visits from his daughter, Lesley, were always anticipated and cherished. Describing Lumpy as an outdoorsman would be an understatement. From hunting and fishing, to working on stuff around the yard, his heart and dedication was in it 100%. He was also an avid sports watcher, no matter the sport. “Lumpy” retired from Federal Mogul Corp. in 2007 after almost 24 years of employment. He married Cathy in 1982 and she survives him.

Also surviving is a daughter, Lesley (Tom) Simon; a sister, Lorinda Lumbert; two sisters-in-law, Cheryl Bixler and Lori Drouin and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents.

A memorial service for “Lumpy” will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday, October 7, 2020 at Keck-Coleman Funeral Home, St. Johns with Pastor Kathy Leydorf-Keck officiating. The family will receive relatives and friends 2-4 and 6-8 PM on Tuesday, October 6 at the funeral home.
