Introducing: Peter’s Musical Garden

Peter’s Sunny Day Foundation able to receive two grants that allowed them to work with the St. Johns Park and Recreation Department on starting a Musical Garden in memory of Peter.

The garden was designed to be accessible to all children, and currently they have three drums placed. They would love to buy additional instruments for the garden and make a fun place for families to enjoy music together.

To help the Foundation finish the garden they have set up a donation link: https://paypal.me/pools/c/8yEpULL9KR or you may send checks made out to the Peter’s Sunny Day Foundation to 1315 Harvest Moon Way St. Johns Mi 48879; in memo please write musical garden.

They have 3 donation levels that would allow your family name or business to be placed on the final plaque:
– Brass – $250
– Woodwind- $500
– Percussion – $1000

Special thanks to: St. John’s Area Community Fund, Youngstrom Contracting, St. Johns High School Youth Grant, and Michigan Graphics & Signs for their help making the garden possible.

See them on Facebook.

Peter’s Sunny Day Foundation was started to honor a beloved son, Peter. Peter was a sweet and spunky 3 year old, fun loving and full of energy. That all changed one February day when he was diagnosed with cancer. He fought one heck of a fight for three and a half years. With this foundation organizers are hoping to help and impact those children still fighting and their families. They want to bring a little joy to their lives and lessen their financial burden, allowing them more time to make memories, something they will forever cherish.

Relay for Life events coming up May 7-9

Drive-Thru Luminaria I Downtown Depot

Friday, May 7 8 to 10 p.m.

Teams will have a designated section along either Railroad Street or N Clinton Avenue next to the Downtown Depot to create a luminaria bags display. Think a campsite minus the tent and people. During 8 to 10 p.m. the bags will be lit and cars will be able to drive along to view the displays. This is open to everyone in the community. Participants must remain in their car when going through the luminaria.

Relay For Life Scavenger Hunt May 7-9

A Scavenger Hunt and Relay in one. Registered participants will be sent a clue on Friday at noon for the first stop along the Relay trail. From there they will be given a clue to each new check-in. At each check-in there will be a QR code for them to scan with a smart phone. The code will reveal either a video (i.e. opening ceremony, survivor story), a fun fact, or an activity to do at that location). Participants will need to drive to some locations in order to complete the full scavenger hunt, or they may choose a shorter walker friendly downtown option.

There will be an answer key on the website for those that need help with clues. Link to the answer key will be posted Friday afternoon. Participants can complete the route in a few hours or stretch it over a few days. Group size will be limited based on COVID guidelines in May and masks will be required.

Sparrow ramps up monoclonal antibody treatments to protect community against COVID

Sparrow has greatly expanded its delivery of monoclonal antibody treatment to the community, shifting from a few dozen treatments a week to as many as 360 infusions weekly to combat the COVID-19 virus.

The move coincides with Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s call for increased antibody infusions and the FDA’s emergency use authorization for use of monoclonal antibodies to treat high-risk mild to moderate COVID-19 patients who meet very specific criteria. Monoclonal treatment has been shown to reduce the risk of hospitalization and death by 87 percent.
As Sparrow emphasizes vaccinations as well as testing for the COVID virus, monoclonal treatment is one of the most important mitigation strategies for use against COVID. Sparrow’s goal is to aggressively treat those who qualify for the treatment.

Monoclonal treatment is an outpatient therapy conducted intravenously at Sparrow’s Specialty Infusion Clinic at the Sparrow St. Lawrence Campus, 1210 W. Saginaw, Lansing; at Sparrow Carson Hospital; and Sparrow Ionia Hospital. The therapy begins April 27 at Sparrow Clinton and Sparrow Eaton. Patients must check with their doctor to see if they are eligible and receive a physician’s order in order to receive the treatment.

Sparrow doubled its infusion treatments last week and now has the ability to deliver a maximum of 60 a day across the health system. Sparrow is also currently working to develop a process to deliver and infuse those patients who are homebound, unable to access transportation and meet the eligibility criteria.

The Voice for Clinton County’s Children now own their facility

Advocate Sophie loves all members of the team and enjoys it when friends stop for a visit.

The Voice for Clinton County’s Children is excited to share with you the generous support of our community. They are proud to announce that they now fully own their beautiful building.

In 2018 the generosity of the Idkowski family began this journey. To ensure fiscal responsibility they made a 10 year plan that they completed in 3 years. Special thank you to all who Sponsored the Hope along with Meijer who helped fully meet their payoff goal.

The agency serves as Clinton County’s Child Advocacy Center, or CAC, and Court Appointed Special Advocates, or CASA Programs. Their incredible staff and volunteers feel privileged to work with and help support children and youth who have experienced neglect, physical abuse, and/or sexual assault. They may not be able to undo the harm caused by child abuse and neglect, but with your support together they make a positive impact on healing an justice for children and youth in our community.
