Relay for Life events coming up May 7-9

Drive-Thru Luminaria I Downtown Depot

Friday, May 7 8 to 10 p.m.

Teams will have a designated section along either Railroad Street or N Clinton Avenue next to the Downtown Depot to create a luminaria bags display. Think a campsite minus the tent and people. During 8 to 10 p.m. the bags will be lit and cars will be able to drive along to view the displays. This is open to everyone in the community. Participants must remain in their car when going through the luminaria.

Relay For Life Scavenger Hunt May 7-9

A Scavenger Hunt and Relay in one. Registered participants will be sent a clue on Friday at noon for the first stop along the Relay trail. From there they will be given a clue to each new check-in. At each check-in there will be a QR code for them to scan with a smart phone. The code will reveal either a video (i.e. opening ceremony, survivor story), a fun fact, or an activity to do at that location). Participants will need to drive to some locations in order to complete the full scavenger hunt, or they may choose a shorter walker friendly downtown option.

There will be an answer key on the website for those that need help with clues. Link to the answer key will be posted Friday afternoon. Participants can complete the route in a few hours or stretch it over a few days. Group size will be limited based on COVID guidelines in May and masks will be required.

SJHS Track Team spruces up Mt. Rest Cemetery
by Maralyn Fink

On Wednesday, I observed students at the Cemetery with rakes, cleaning up the lawn. I approached them to find out where they were from.

They were members of the High School track team. They were also working in the inside of the Mausoleum washing the walls and the flooring.

We are so fortunate to have a group like this to show their interest in a project like this. A big thank you to the track team from the Community to take on this project. You are greatly appreciated.
