Jacob Richard Gnegy

On Monday, May 17, 2021 Jacob Richard “Jake” Gnegy passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by family.

In his 23 years, Jake faced more adversity and challenges than one deserves, but from it taught the rest of us an abundance of lessons to carry with us. He taught us to spend every weekend at the lake. To worry less and drink more. To spend the money on the concert tickets. To make memories with friends every chance you get. To trade sleep for video games. To have a big heart. To try something new. To cheer too loud for MSU sports. To roll with the punches. To play golf 7 days a week, because you can. To turn up the music. But most importantly, he taught us to have no regrets and to live every day as if it were your last. Although Jake’s last came too soon, after a strong fight against cancer, the impressions he made on friends and family will last forever.

Jake is survived by his wife, Lauren Bates; their dog, Piper; his parents, Rachel and Jason Gnegy; his sister, Brooke Gnegy; grandparents, Jeffrey and Alice Nobis and Betty Lou Gnegy; in-laws, Tom and Cyndie Bates; brother-in-law, Tyler Bates; uncles and aunts, Matthew and Shannon Nobis and Jamie and Lori Gnegy; cousins, Carter and Spencer Nobis and Caden, Zander, and Grayson Gnegy. Jake is also survived by many other family and friends.

A Celebration of Life ceremony will be held at the Clifford Lake Inn, 561 Clifford Lake Drive NW, in Stanton, MI on Friday, May 21, 2021 at 3 p.m. The ceremony will be held outdoors. Casual summer attire is encouraged.

In lieu of memorial contributions, Jake would want people to make a memory together with family and friends.
