Carol L. Smith
Carol L. (Aldrich) Smith, a life long resident of Ovid, died peacefully at her home on October 21, 2021 at the age of 76.
Born in Owosso on March 10, 1945, the daughter of William H. and Betty Ann (Shinaberry) Aldrich, Carol grew up in Ovid where she was a 1963 graduate of Ovid High School. On September 20, 1963 she married Lawrence R. “Larry” Smith.
Carol was the reading program director for Grove Christian School, she worked for over twenty five years at the Ovid Public Library and together with Larry, ministered to their friends and fellow believers at Grove Bible Church in St. Johns.
In addition to Larry, her beloved husband of over fifty-eight years, she leaves her sons, Robert (Donna) Smith, James Smith, and Mark (Sylvia) Smith; her daughters, Sarah Smith and Abbie Smith; grandson, William Smith; father, Bill Aldrich; sister, Angie (Bob) Lawrence and many extended family members and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her mother, Betty (Shinaberry) Aldrich.
Visitation will be held at McGeehan Funeral Home, Keck-Coleman Chapel, 1500 Waterford Parkway, St. Johns, on Monday, October 25, from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM. A Funeral Service will be held at Grove Bible Church, 6990 E. Price Road, St. Johns, on Tuesday, October 26, at 12 Noon. There will be visitation at the church from 10 AM until the time of service. Shirley Jean Cole
Shirley Jean Cole, age 90, a longtime resident of Alma, died peacefully on October 20, 2021.
Shirley was born in St. Johns, Michigan on December 16, 1930, the eldest of four children born to August and Eileen (Moore) Martin. She graduated from St. Johns High School in 1949 and married Maynard Cole on November 4, 1949. They made their home in Alma and raised three children. Shirley worked for Alma Iron and Metal for twenty years until her retirement in 1991. Shirley was a wonderful wife, a patient mother, and a doting grandmother. She was a rock for her family and taking care of her family brought her the most enjoyment in life. She enjoyed reading, gardening, doing puzzles, baking, riding horses and watching football. She was an avid Spartan fan.
She is survived by her beloved husband of nearly seventy two years, Maynard N. Cole; her children, Pamela Hendon, Scott (Diana) Cole, Robinn (Mike) Boyer; grandchildren, Jennifer (Randy) Mumby, Wendy (Shaun) Pearson, David Palmer, Amanda (Alan) Helfer, Blaine (Cyndi) Boyer, Erica (Mark Monroe) Boyer; great-grandchildren, Rachel, Jillian, Madisynn, Emma, Michalyn, Meghan, Jacob, Noah, Madison and Cole; sister, Janette (the late Gordon) Matter, as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family members. She was preceded in death by her parents, August and Eileen Martin; brother, Jeff and sister, Carole.
A Graveside Service will be held at Mount Rest Cemetery, St. Johns on Monday, October 25, 2021 at 1 PM.

Evelyn Jane Speers
Evelyn Jane Speers, age 89, of Owosso, MI, passed away after a brief illness Thursday, October 21, 2021, at Sparrow Clinton Hospital, St. Johns.
A Memorial Service will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes – Osgood Chapel, St. Johns, MI, at 1:00 P.M. on Monday, October 25, 2021. Private family burial will take place at St. Paul Catholic Cemetery, Owosso, MI. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home beginning at 12:00 P.M.
Evelyn was born in Flint, Michigan on January 22, 1932, the daughter of Theodore John and Marian Theresa (Fedewa) Armbrustmacher. She graduated from St. Paul’s Catholic High School in Owosso with the class of 1950. On April 18, 1953, Evelyn married George A. Speers in Owosso. He passed away on February 14, 2020. Evelyn was passionate about genealogy. She performed extensive research that benefited not only her family, but others as well.
Evelyn is survived by 6 children: David (Cheryl) Speers of Fowler, MI; Tracy (Rex) Mohnke of St. Johns, MI; Tom (Linda) Speers of Fife Lake, MI; Jane (Lyle) Meece of Warren, IN; Linda (Ben) Rodeffer of Morriston, FL; and John (Brenda) Speers of Fowler, MI. She is also survived by grandchildren: Dani (Ed) Nettle, Eric (Dannielle) Speers, Craig (Shelly) Ludwick, Christopher (Ariana) Mohnke, Paul Mohnke, Jared (Kendra) Speers, Lauren Speers, Alex (Trey Spencer) Langford, and Megan Speers; 8 great-grandchildren; one brother Ted Armbrustmacher; one sister Mary Kay (Kevin) Smith; and 2 nieces and a nephew. Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, and husband George.

Joyce Worthington
Joyce Worthington, a long time resident of St. Johns, Michigan, died on October 20, 2021 at the age of 87.
Joyce was born in Flint on October 22, 1933, the daughter of Harold and Grace (Searles) Ewing. She was a graduate of Lansing Business College and enjoyed a thirty-nine year career serving as an Executive Secretary for Michigan’s Department of Public Health in Lansing.
In 1953 she wed the love of her life, Robert Worthington in Judson Memorial Church in south Lansing. In 1974 they settled in St. Johns, where Bob built their home on Parks Road, and where she enjoyed taking good care of her family, canning fruits and vegetables, and baking. She loved life, and cherished opportunities to travel with Bob on adventures to Alaska, Florida, and around the United States.
In addition to Bob, her beloved husband of over sixty-eight years, she is survived by her daughter, Melode (Sam) Staley; grandsons, Rob Staley, Jeff Staley, and Marc (Theresa) Staley; great grandchildren, Shelly, Logan, Jeff and Sarah. She was preceded in death by a grandson, Kevin.
A Funeral Service will be held at McGeehan Funeral Home, Keck-Coleman Chapel, 1500 Waterford Parkway, St. Johns, on Saturday, October 23, at 3 PM with Pastor Tim Knaus officiating. Friends may gather from 1 PM until the time of service. Memorials may be made in her name to the American Diabetes Association.
Daniel Mack Rue
Daniel Mack Rue, age 67, passed peacefully at his home on Tuesday, October 19, 2021 with his wife Melissa and girls by his side.
Dan was born on January 24, 1954 in Bradley County, Cleveland, Tennessee, the son of Mack Rue and Frances Leonard. He grew up in St. Johns, attended St. Peter Lutheran Church and was in the St. Johns High School Class of ’73.
Dan was creative and hardworking. He loved collecting and working on toys, building you boxes and other items. He was proficient in welding, electrical, carpentry and welding. Over the years he worked Industrial Phosphate, Drop Forge, Farming, Federal-Modul and drove semi for Black Lake Ventures until he retired on June 30, 2018.
On October 5, 1974 he married Rita Flak and together raised three daughters, Renee, Leslie and Lindsay. On July 2, 2004, Daniel married Melissa Bancroft in Cleveland, Tennessee gained two daughters, Nicole and Nina and enjoyed the blessings of a blended family. He loved to work in the garden and flower beds with Melissa, as well as going to flea markets, craft and car shows. His greatest enjoyment came from spending time with family and friends and sitting in the garage listening to music.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Melissa; his daughters, Renee (James) Terpening, Leslie Rue, Lindsay Rue; stepdaughters, Nicole (Tom) Furlano and Nina (Rick) Dibble; grandchildren, Ashley (Kevin) Root, Chandler Terpening, Clair Terpening, Ethan Terpening, Evan Terpening, Danielle Stewart, Logan Stewart, Kaden Miller, Payton Rue, Cruise Furlano, Katen Furlano, and Alec Dibble; one great grandson, Grayson Root; sister, Pat Sharp and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Mack Rue; mother, Frances Leonard and sister, Carol Goodman.
A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, October 23, 2021 at 11 AM at McGeehan Funeral Home, Keck-Coleman Chapel, 1500 Waterford Pkwy, St. Johns. Friends may visit the funeral home on Friday, October 22, 2021 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM, and on Saturday from 10AM until the time of the service.
