His pranks, mischievousness, and amazing sense of humor will be sorely missed.

Terry R. Mangles

Terry R. Mangles, a resident of Mio, and former resident of Shaftsburg and Ovid, MI died on October 24, 2021, at the age of 75.

Terry was born in Lansing on July 14, 1946, the son of Edward and Juanita (Cole) Mangles. After serving with the U.S. Army, he made his career at General Motors in addition to providing heating and refrigeration services.

Outside of work he was an avid hunter, fisherman, and gardener. Some of his favorite times were spent taking family trips to Canada, Cedar Point, and Key West. As his sons were growing up, Terry made sure they accompanied him practically everywhere—heating and cooling jobs, cutting wood, and (of course) shopping. Wherever he went, he would strike up conversations and made friends easily; he was always ready with a wise crack, story, or a joke to make you laugh. A gift-giver at heart, Terry lived for bargain hunting, and he generously shared his purchases with those he loved. Vacations weren’t for him to relax; vacations were an opportunity and an excuse to pursue his true passion, shopping for others. He would often show up on friends’ and relatives’ doorsteps bearing large piles of food or the occasional small appliance.

Terry is survived by his sons, Salem (Nicole) Mangles, Darryl Mangles, and Edward (Courtney) Mangles; daughter Sarah Dunkel; grandchildren, Naomi, Anna, Kenny, Salem, Mikayla, Cameron, Raylan, Loralei, and Wyatt Mangles, Candice and Chase Wade; his girlfriend, Earline “Ellie” White; sister-in-law, Julie Mangles, and many extended family members and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his wife Suzanne in 2007 as well as brothers Larry, Ronnie, and Darryl.

A Memorial Service will be held at McGeehan Funeral Home, Keck-Coleman Chapel, 1500 Waterford Parkway, St. Johns, on Tuesday, November 9, 2021 at 2 PM, with visitation beginning at noon. Interment and Military Honors will follow in Mt. Rest Cemetery, St. Johns.
