A mighty wind blew

Fortunately St. Johns was spared the storms that blew through some of the states south of Michigan, but Darryl Schmitz shows us some of the damage that occurred at the City Park last weekend.
Fill Up A Cop Car a success
by Maralyn Fink
On Saturday, December 11, I stopped out at Kroger’s for the Fill A Cop Car. It was a cold windy day, but Police Officers Chad Pierson and Ryan Collier were on hand for the collection of food products.
There were six different locations in Bath, DeWitt, Ovid, and St. Johns. Between those locations folks filled twenty-four (24) cop cars with food and collected $4,193 in cash donations for local food banks in Clinton County.
Thanks to all for your donations. Many more people will have much needed food this winter!
Elementary students have been caroling
On Wednesday, December 15 Mrs Smith’s class and all the 1st grade teachers and students at Gateway Elementary in St. Johns put together a special program for George French, the 96 year-old grandfather of one of the students.
Meanwhile the Eureka Elementary 3rd, 4th and 5th graders were Zoom caroling with residents of Grace Haven Assisted Living.

Clinton County businesses receive much-needed boost from COVID relief funding
Clinton County and the Lansing Economic Area Partnership (LEAP) are grants into the hands of small businesses throughout the county that were hurt by COVID shutdowns.
This week the county announced 107 Clinton County small businesses will receive grants from the Clinton County Small Business Relief Program. Grants range from $10,000 to $25,000 based on total employment and collectively total $1,640,000 funded by the county’s first round of federal COVID relief funding.
In August 2021 the Clinton County Board of Commissioners voted to allocate federal relief funds for small business grants and selected LEAP to design and administer the program. The grant program was designed to assist small businesses negatively affected by the COVID-19 pandemic with an emphasis on demonstrated negative impact due to the pandemic, business longevity, financial need and community impact.
Relay For Life of Clinton County to kickoff 2022 on January 17
The Relay For Life movement inspires the community to celebrate people who have been touched by cancer, remember loved ones lost, and take action for lifesaving change. Attendees will learn more about this year’s event.
Funds raised from Relay For Life events allow the ACS to attack cancer in dozens of ways, each of them critical to achieving a world without cancer – from developing breakthrough therapies and innovative research, to building supportive communities that come together to help those affected by cancer with access to treatment.
