Irene L Wing

Irene L (Beck) Wing, age 85, of St. Johns, passed away on Wednesday, February 16, 2022, at Grace Haven, with family by her side. Irene was born February 20, 1936, in Lansing, the daughter of Carle P and Marian Beck. She was raised in the Crystal area. Irene graduated from St. Johns Public Schools. Irene married Joe Wing on October 24, 1953 in Crystal. She was a home maker and helped her husband on the family farm. Irene was a member of the Lansing Moose Lodge. She was a world champion in horseshoes. She enjoyed dancing, spending time outside, gardening, fishing, and roller skating. She excelled as a dancer, especially ballroom dancing.

Irene is survived in death by her husband, Joseph Wing of St. Johns; children, Scotty Joe (Carolyn) Wing of St. Johns, Jeffrey Charles (Jill) Wing of St. Johns, Randy J. (Leah) Wing of Arkansas, Lisa Mae (David) Wilson; eight grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mary Ann (Michael) Shuster of Grandville, and Janet Kay (Rex) Cole of Grant, MI; one brother-in-law, Peter Pascalenos; several nieces and nephews. Irene was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Marian Beck; and one son, Rodney Wing; one brother Carl Beck of St. Johns; and two sisters Betty Helms, and Beverly Pascalenos.

Funeral services for Irene will be Saturday, February 19, 2022, at 11:00 am with the family accepting friends for visitation starting at 9:00 a.m. at Lowe United Methodist Church with Pastor Kathy Leydorf-Keck officiating. A luncheon will be held at the church following the service. Memorial contributions may be made to Sparrow Hospice. Linda Lou George

Linda Lou George, a lifetime resident of St. Johns, died peacefully on February 14, 2022. She was 66 years old.

Linda was born on June 9, 1955 in St. Johns, Michigan, the oldest of two children born to Robert and Alice (Dilts) Cole. She was a 1973 graduate of St. Johns High School. For nearly thirty years, Linda worked for CACS Head Start, and most recently was the Head of Records. Linda was loving, caring and non-judgmental. She was accepting and supportive of everyone, and kept her family in line with “the look”. She loved her daughters, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and her work family. Linda enjoyed gardening, watching Jeopardy, quilting baby blankets, and crocheting gloves for her Head Start kids. She will be remembered for her big heart and caring nature and will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

She is survived by her daughters, Carly Williams of St. Johns and Melanie (Kurt) Moritz of Fort Lauderdale, FL; grandchildren, Kiana Williams of Columbus, OH, Austin Williams of St. Johns, Parker and Hudson Moritz of FL; great-grandchildren, D.J. Robinson and Arabella Williams; brother, Dave (Kathleen) Cole of Cedar Springs; nephew, Bob Cole and family; niece, Jessica Price and family; her Head Start work family and canine companion, Peanut. She was preceded in death by her special friend, Terri Davis in 2014 and her beloved dog, Diamond.

A Funeral Service will be held at McGeehan Funeral Home, Keck-Coleman Chapel, 1500 Waterford Pkwy, St. Johns on Friday, February 18, 2022 at 11 AM. Friends may visit the funeral home on Thursday from 4-7 PM and on Friday from 10 AM until the time of the service.

Neva Mae Swagart

Neva Mae Swagart, age 81, of St. Johns, MI, passed away Friday, February 11, 2022, at Sparrow Clinton Hospital, St. Johns, MI.

Cremation has taken place and the family will have a celebration of life at a later date. Burial will take place at Mt. Rest Cemetery, St. Johns, MI at a later date.

Neva was born in St. Johns, Michigan on February 27, 1940, the daughter of Wesley Edward and Leota Elaine (Reavley) Hathaway. She graduated from Rodney B. Wilson with the class of 1958. Neva married Richard Swagart on December 7, 1990, in St. Johns. Dick passed away on April 7, 2020.

She was a wonderful homemaker and mother. After raising her family she went to work as a crossing guard at Perrin-Palmer Elementary School and also at Northgate Elementary School. She loved working with the children and if she saw they didn’t have a hat or gloves she would make sure they did. She was also a caregiver to an elderly neighbor for many years. Neva was known for her cross stitching and made many burp cloths and baby blankets for her family and friends. She was also known for her chocolate drop cookies. Neva had many special friends and enjoyed getting together with best friend since kindergarten Jan Workman, and neighborhood friends Carol Andrews, Cheryl Plowman, and Linda Ritter. She enjoyed word searches; watching cooking shows, and Dr. Pol. Neva loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and grand-dogs.

She is survived by her children: Kimberly Huguelet of St. Johns, MI, Mark and Jill Wineland of St. Johns, MI, Laureen Wineland of St. Johns, MI, Kristin Milton of Perrinton, MI; grandchildren: Scott and Val Knickerbocker, Jamie and Chad Torka, Heidi Parks, Geoffry Parks, Alyssa and Jake VanSickle, Cassidy Milton, Madisson Milton, Gavin Milton, Jack, and Thomas Wineland and grand dog Daisy; great-grandchildren: Joseph and Averie Mae Knickerbocker, Logan Plowman, and Weston and Colton VanSickle. She is also survived by her sister Patricia Fox of Stockbridge, MI; brother Ken Hathaway of Laingsburg, MI; special nephew Jef Fox of Pinckney, MI; close family friends: Cindy, Bill, and Ace Wentworth and Dora Mae Linman; step-son Raymond Swagart of Lansing, MI; step-daughter Julie Swagart of Ohio, sister in law Cheryl Moubray and Tom, Merle Swagart, Nina Swagart, brothers in law Al Sawgart and Bruce Carmen, brother in law Nick Blotti. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Dick, sister Judy Blotti, infant brother Donald, and sons-in-law: Doug Huguelet and Ron Milton, father of her children Dale Wineland, sister in law Linda Carmen and Gary Swagart.

Margaret Mary Klein

Margaret Mary Klein, age 95, of Saint Johns, Michigan passed away Friday, February 11, 2022, at her home.

Margaret was born in Saint Johns, Michigan, on January 20, 1927, the eighth child of ten children born to Alphonse and Agnes (Kuchar) Caudy. She was a devout Catholic who had a deep devotion to Our Blessed Mother Mary praying the rosary many times throughout the day. She often spoke of her parents: Papa who was born in Luxembourg and Ma who was born in Czechoslovakia. She graduated in the 8th grade from Saint Joseph Catholic School. Always reminiscing on how being taught the Catholic faith so well by the Sisters of Saint Joseph. When growing up in Saint Johns, her father owned the City Laundry where she learned the skill of ironing. She later worked for A. G. Redmond Company in Owosso and then for Sealed Power in Saint Johns before marrying Peter William Klein on April 23, 1960 at Saint Joseph Catholic Church in Saint Johns, Michigan. He passed away on June 11, 2015.

She enjoyed traveling to Rome, Italy and Lourdes, France. She was a member of the Altar Society and was in charge of organizing funeral dinners for many years for the church. She took great pride in washing and ironing church linens. She also led the rosary in church before mass for many, many years.

In her 70s she contracted bladder cancer and miraculously survived stunning the surgeon who performed the surgery. She attributed her healing to wearing the Miraculous Medal, which she had worn every day since the age of 16.

She is survived by her children: Patrick Klein, Peter (Andrea) Klein, Margaret Mary (Dan) Jorae all of Saint Johns, Michigan, Francis (Patricia) Klein of DeWitt, Michigan and Stephen (LaTisha) Klein of Omaha, Nebraska, nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Therese VanWormer, brother Joseph Caudy and sisters-in-law Monica Pung and Doris Klein. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Peter, siblings: Mary (John) Fox, John (Evangeline) Caudy, Agnes (Victor) Brown, Rose (Ed) Wilson, Anna (John) Kusnier, Alphonse (Ruth) Caudy, Vincent DePaul (Phyllis) Caudy, sister-in-law Bernice Caudy; brother and sisters-in-law: Annabel (Louis) Schafer, John (Mary) Klein, Paul Klein, Charles Klein, Martin Pung, Therese (Elmer) Thelen, Lawrence (Carolyn) Klein and Phillip Klein.
