St. Johns Bands receive straight I ratings again this year
On Saturday, March 13, all four St Johns bands received a rating of I – Superior at the Michigan School Band & Orchestra Association Festival.
The MSBOA holds an annual competition called the Band and Orchestra Festival. This is an opportunity for schools to perform three pieces in front of judges who then critique and score the bands. Ensembles are rated on a scale from I to V, with I (Superior) being the highest rating possible.
The 8th grade, 9th grade, Concert, and Symphonic Bands each prepared and performed three pieces which received straight I ratings from all three judges.
The St. Johns bands are directed by Roy Davis who is a 24-year teaching veteran. They have been attending band festival for all of his years of teaching.
“I’m very proud of the hard work the band members have done,” said Davis. “I’m happy we’ve been able to keep our streak of I-ratings, and I look forward to the rest of the band season.”
