St. Johns Police Department Welcomes Officer Traci Sperry
The City of St. Johns is pleased to announce that Officer Traci Sperry has joined the St. Johns Police Department as its newest patrol officer. Sperry was sworn in on Monday, March 7, 2022 and will be responsible for investigating criminal complaints, traffic enforcement, responding to disturbances, enforcing state law and city ordinances and other related duties.
Sperry comes to the SJPD with more than 12 years’ experience, including two years with the Oscoda Police Department and the past 10 years with the East Lansing Police Department (ELPD) where she was named the 2020 Officer of the Year. Sperry holds certifications as a use of force and firearms instructor, wellness instructor and women’s self-defense instructor, and is a field training officer. She also has extensive experience investigating crimes against children. Local to St. Johns, Sperry is looking forward to making a positive impact in her home town.
“Officer Sperry simply checks all the boxes you could ever hope for when interviewing new candidates,” says SJPD Chief David Kirk. “She brings a diverse wealth of knowledge in a lot of applicable operational areas.”
With police officer recruitment being a challenge on a national level, Chief Kirk recognizes the value that a proven, experienced officer brings to the agency and the city. The SJPD is one of the area’s last remaining full-service agencies, and “having proper staffing assures that we are able to continue to interact with those we protect and serve at an exceptional level,” Kirk explains.
