Longtime local dentist retires

Dr.James Schweigert, DDS is retiring after 53 years serving the St Johns community.
Born in Madison Wisconsin, his family moved to East Lansing when his father took a job at MSU. He graduated from East Lansing High School then attended the University of Michigan where he obtained his degree in dentistry in 1970.
Dr Schwegert opened his office in September of 1970. Dr. Jim and his wife Diane, provided quality dental care together while raising two children, James and Amy.
The Scheigerts say what they will miss most is the friendship they have developed with their patients over the years.
After celebrating with their family on a Disney Cruise, they plan on staying in the area to to be able to spend time with family and their 7 grandchildren. Their services will be missed.
Open House for retiring pastor coming up June 29

Museum to open for the 2023 season
The Clinton County Historical Museum Paine-Gillam-Scott House has announced their 2023 season: Our Town: The Way We Were.
Volunteers have been busy creating an exhibit that will engage every visitor as we explore the history of St Johns from 1860 to 1999. Tons of artifacts; photographs and print from books and newspapers will give our visitors a glimpse of what life in St Johns was like during those 140 years or so.
The Museum’s 2023 hours will be Wednesdays from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM and Sundays from 1:00 to 4:00 PM.

Mint Pageant applications now open
Applications are now open for a summer of fun and the chance to represent the Mint Festival as the next Mint Queen, Junior Miss Mint or Little Miss Mint.
Apply by June 10, 2023. The pageant is open to candidates ages 8-20 who live or go to school in Clinton County.
he 2023 Mint Festival Pageant will be held on Thursday, July 20, with practices beginning July 10.

Byzantine Chain Maille Bracelet Class
Learn how to use the Byzantine chain maille weave to create a bracelet that can be worn by anyone. There are a wide range of colors to choose from.
The byzantine weave looks complicated, but once you get the hang of it, it’s a lot of fun. Make a bracelet in your favorite color, your team’s colors or make bracelets to swap with your friend.
This class will be taught at the Art & Soul Gallery in St Johns, MI on Thursday, June 29 from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. The cost is $25 each.

Learn hand and slab built techniques as well as glazing over multiple fun projects at the Art & Soul Gallery in Downtown, St. Johns
Space is limited to 12 students per group. $50 includes all 6 weeks.
Learn multiple techniques used in hand building and slab clay creating with local Michigander, Debbie Fehrenbach, a profession multimedia artist.
Department of Waste Management seeks public comment
Clinton County Department of Waste Management is offering a resolution for public comment through Friday, July 14, 2023. Granger has requested two amendments to the Clinton County Solid Waste Management Plan (SWMP). The requests include 1) one additional county to the SWMP for waste import and export and 2) amend the total area sited for use at the Grand River Avenue landfill located at 8550 West Grand River Highway, Grand Ledge, Michigan.
Copies of this resolution will be made available on the Clinton County Department of Waste Management website, through the Clinton County Department of Waste Management office, through the Clinton County Clerk’s office and is being made available to all local municipalities for review and comment.
Comments should be submitted to Clinton County Department of Waste Management through email recycle@clinton-county.org or written mail 100 East State Street, Suite 1500, St Johns, MI 48879 BEFORE Friday July 14th at 5:00 p.m.
A public hearing to review all public comments has been set for Tuesday, July 25th at 6:00 p.m. to be held at the Clinton County Courthouse in the Board of Commissioners Room.

RBW Class of ’59 plans reunion
The Rodney B Wilson High School Class of 1959 is gathering for a 64th reunion on September 14, 2023 (Thursday) at the St. Johns City Park in the main pavilion which has been reserved from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. A buffet lunch will be served at 1 p.m. for $15 per person.
