Doris Minnich Jablowski
Doris Minnich Jablowski went to be with her Savior on September 4, 2023. She was 82 years old.
Doris was the daughter of Paul and Helen Minnich, born in Tremont, Pennsylvania on November 15, 1940. Her mother passed away when she was fifteen months, and she was raised by her loving parents, John and Fredia Harring of Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. Doris was a graduate of the GAR class of 1958. She attended Wilkes-Business College and graduated from Pittston Hospital School of Nursing in 1962, beginning her work as an R.N. for forty-five years. She worked for over thirty-seven years at Sparrow Clinton Hospital, where she served in many capacities and developed many lifelong friendships.
Doris enjoyed fellowship with family and friends, and at her church, St. John’s Lutheran Church in St. Johns. Traveling was also high on her list, and her European visits were special. Through the years she was involved with teaching Sunday School, 4-H, farming, and helping anyone in need, including her many animals that she took in at her home.
She is survived by her husband of over fifty-eight years, Stanley Jablowski; her daughter, Melissa Jablowski; brothers, William Harring of Wilkes-Barre, PA, and Richard Harring and his wife Joyce, of The Villages, FL; her dear Bill Harmon and his family; many great cousins, the Stillers, Harrings, Griffiths, and many dear friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Paul, Helen, and Pearl Minnich; John and Fredia Harring; sister-in-law Betty Harring; her in-laws, Stanley and Francis Jablowski, brother-in-law, John Jablowski, and sister-in-law, Flossie Jablowski.
Visitation will be held at McGeehan Funeral Home, Keck-Coleman Chapel, 1500 Waterford Parkway, St. Johns, on Sunday, September 10 from 1-3 PM and 5-7 PM.
A Funeral Service will be held at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 511 E. Sturgis, St. Johns, on Monday, September 11 at 11 AM with Pastor Jim Pearl officiating. Friends may visit the church on Monday from 10 AM until the time of the service. Burial will follow in Mt. Rest Cemetery, St. Johns. Following graveside services a luncheon will be served at the church.

Janice Lee Vermeersch
Janice Lee Vermeersch of St. Johns, went to be with our Lord on September 2, 2023.
Janice was born on October 5, 1936 to Ward and Adeline Irish of Grand Ledge. She is survived by four children: Jeffrey, Lynda (Anthony) Randazzo, Leslie (Craig) Howard, Joseph, and daughter-in-law, Linda. Her siblings, Kay, Ward, Michael, Robert, and Mary Jo; along with numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Janice was preceded in death by her parents Ward and Adeline; brothers, James, Stephen, and soul sister, Sue; and sons, Jerry and James.
Janice led a life, one would easily define as spirited, generous, and completely saturated with family, friends, and adventurous people. Her generous heart and vibrant personality led her to find lifetime friends through every conversation. We always knew, our family was ever expanding, secondary to her willingness to love, listen, and laugh.
Janice was also a lifetime educator and guidance counselor, since she devoted decades to St. Johns’ educational system with a focus of developing the human spirit; whereby, compassion, generosity, and love were deeply implanted in their youthful minds. Janice lastly maintained a robust community and social presence with her election volunteer time, blood drives, book clubs, Ya Ya Sisters, Mentor Program, and as a swimming instructor.
A memorial visitation will be held at McGeehan Funeral Home, Keck-Coleman Chapel,1500 Waterford Pkwy, St Johns, MI 48879, on Thursday, September 7 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. A memorial mass is planned for Friday, September 8 at St. Joseph Catholic, 109 Linden, St. Johns, MI 48879 at 11:00 a.m. with an hour of visitation before the service. A luncheon will follow at the Knights of Columbus hall located at 1108 Old U.S. 27, St. Johns, MI 48879.

Paul David June
Paul David June of DeWitt, died at Sparrow Clinton Hospital on September 2, 2023 at the age of 78.
Paul was born on March 24, 1945. The only son of Marshall June and Theo Curtis. On December 12, 1993, he married the love of his life, Paula Yaudes. Together they spent 29 years together.
Paul worked for General Motors for 30 years before his retirement and was also a dedicated farmer throughout those years. He was also a proud American, making sure to only buy American made products. Paul also enjoyed working with his dear friend Nathan Beck at Beck’s Custom Coach & Trailer Sales in St Johns. He was known for being very hardworking, loving, and was exceptionally proud of his family. You could often find Paul at car shows with his red white and blue 1996 Chevy S10, expos for Beck’s Trailer Store, crop farming, or being involved at the St Johns High School car show. Paul and Paula were also loyal members of the Church of Christ in St. Johns and enjoyed many memorable trips to Gatlinburg, Tenn.
Paul is survived by his wife Paula June; children Scott (Sandra) June, Angela (David) Theisen, and Lori (Mark) Snauko; grandchildren, Brianne (William) Dunlap, Ashley June, Alyssa (Sean) Fortelka, Curtis (Elizabeth) June, Olivia Theisen, Corey (Sarah) Theisen, Audrey Snauko, and Jack Snauko; 5 great-grandchildren with one on the way; and sister, Mary (Vern) Thompson. He is preceded in death by his parents.

Michael Edward Slocum
Michael Edward Slocum, age 73, of Fowler, MI, passed away Friday, September 1, 2023 at his home.
Cremation has taken place and there will be no services at this time.
Michael was born in Lansing, Michigan on February 16, 1950, the son of Theodore and Dorthy (Kerry) Slocum. Michael married Judy A. (Millard) Slocum on March 26, 1988. Michael was a devoted husband who loved his wife and family. He was a hard worker who retired from General Motors and he was a member of the UA Plumbers, Pipefitters, HVAC, and Mechanic’s Union.
Michael and Judy had their dream home built and retired and lived happily in Fowler, MI. He loved hunting, especially with his son and daughter. He loved riding on his tractor working in his yard and flowers. He enjoyed collecting watches and absolutely adored his dog Teddy. Most of all he was a devoted husband to his wife Judy, who he absolutely loved until his dying day. They were soul-mates.
He is survived by his wife Judy Slocum; three children: Michael D. and Vickie Slocum, Lois E. Swinson, and Rosemary M. and Robert McKary; step-daughter Tracey Redoutey and Eric Bolles; fifteen grandchildren and twenty-five great- grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister Kathey and Don Culp and his brothers: Dennis Slocum and Paul Slocum. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Thomas Slocum, and one grandson John Joseph Miller.

Maureen Mary Canum
Maureen Mary (Russell) Canum, age 84, of Holland went to be with her Lord on Wednesday, August 30, 2023. Maureen grew up in St. Johns, Michigan, beloved daughter of Sherwood and Edith Russell. She later went on to attend the University of Michigan to study nursing. Maureen became a Registered Nurse and worked at Blodgett Hospital.
Maureen and Lyle were married in 1959 and called west Michigan their home. While living in Holland, Maureen enjoyed raising as many as 27 horses on their Arabian Horse Ranch (https://www.angelfire.com/mi4/lakebreezearabs/Home.htm).
For many years, Lyle and Maureen enjoyed winter months with their “big rig” RV, enjoying the sights and spending time with friends and family along the way. In her spare time Maureen liked to read, especially if the cleaning was done. Maureen will be dearly missed as a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
She will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 64 years, Lyle Canum; children, Stephen (and Bonnie) Canum, Michael Canum; granddaughters, Brittany (and Christopher) Gray, Allison (and Matthew) Latarewicz; great-grandchildren, Lillian Rose Gray, Frederick Stephen Gray; brother-in-law, Lynn Canum; sister-in-law, Kathy Canum; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brother, William (and Janet) Russell; and brother-in-law, Lon Canum.
According to her wishes, cremation has taken place. A celebration of Maureen’s life will be scheduled at a future date. Until then, the family welcomes visitors and cards during this difficult time. Frank Louis Hufnagel
Frank Louis Hufnagel passed away on Thursday, August 31, 2023 at the age of 84. He was a fantastic husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who loved his family dearly.
Frank was born in Fowler, December 12, 1938, the son of Nick and Rose (Simon) Hufnagel. He graduated from Fowler High School in 1957. Frank was a lifelong, committed member of Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Fowler. He had a strong devotion to prayer and to his Catholic faith. Frank was raised on a family farm and grew to become a tireless worker in professional, farm, and military service. As a young adult he served in the Army, and later as a corrections officer. He also took great joy in raising cattle and crops on his own farm.
All the while, for 51 years, he proudly drove school bus for the students and athletes of Fowler Public Schools whom he truly loved. A favorite recollection was backing the Fowler Eagles football team bus down the tunnel of the Pontiac Silverdome to multiple championship games. Frank considered it a privilege to serve as public address announcer for Fowler’s football and track teams. In recognition of his extraordinary service, he was recognized as an Honorary Member of the Michigan High School Football Coaches Association. Frank truly enjoyed serving the people of his community. He never lacked effort or initiative in service through the Jaycees, Lions Club, Knights of Columbus, VFW, Most Holy Trinity Parish, Fowler Public Schools, and more. Through these and all his family and community experiences, Frank had genuine interest in and cared for everyone he came to know, and reveled in conversation, storytelling and card playing with all his friends and family both in Fowler and at Halls Lake.
On June 17, 1961 he married Kay (Koenigsknecht) Hufnagel and enjoyed 59 years of marriage. Surviving are three sons: Neil (Anne), Luke (Cindy) and Matt (Tori); thirteen grandchildren; four great-grandsons; his siblings: Esther Eiseler, Helen Hungerford, and Jim (Carrie) Hufnagel; in-laws: Marie Hufnagel, Marlene Hufnagel, Judy Koenigsknecht, Marilie Koenigsknecht, Bob (Pat) Koenigsknecht, MaryAnn (Roger) Kaminskis, Jane Fox, Luke (Rosemary) Koenigsknecht, and Don (Colleen) Koenigsknecht. He was preceded in death by his wife Kay, his parents; granddaughter, Amber Rose Hufnagel; his brothers: Clem Hufnagel, Chuck Hufnagel, Tom (Nancy) Hufnagel, his sisters: Celeste (Fran) Heckman, Mary (Wesley) Arnold; in-laws John Eiseler, Ken Hungerford, Carl Koenigsknecht, Roy Koenigsknecht, and Joe Koenigsknecht.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 A.M. on Wednesday, September 6, 2023 at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Fowler, with Rev. Fr. John Whitlock presiding. Rite of Committal will follow at Most Holy Trinity Cemetery. The family will receive relatives and friends from 2-8 P.M. on Tuesday, September 5, 2023 at Smith Family Funeral Homes -Goerge Chapel, Fowler, MI. A Rosary will be prayed at 7:30 P.M. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Most Holy Trinity Educational Trust Fund or the Fowler Public Schools Education Foundation.
