Briggs District Library holds storytime

St. Johns Police Chief David Kirk joined library staff at the IQ Hub for a storytime about Community Helpers. Chief Kirk read a story, showed everyone his police car and brought the kids their own police badges.


Homecoming 2023 shirt design unveiled

Homecoming is up on September 22. Gateway Oakview PTO with the help of Mr. Gove have designed a homecoming t-shirt for this year.

If you would like to order a shirt, the PTO will get a percentage of all orders. They will use that money to support the students and teachers throughout the school year. These are not specific to the elementary schools.

Both youth and adult sizes available. Shirts are $10. Prices may change depending on sizes. Follow this link to order.


St. John’s Lutheran hosts Speaker Series September 26

Join people from St. John’ Lutheran Church for Plan Well, Live Well on Tuesday, September 26 at 6:00 p.m. The church is located at 511 E. Sturgis St, St. Johns

Speakers include:

– Wills and Trusts: Attorney John Wieber
– Final gift planning: Julie Burgess, Lutheran Church Extension
– Preplanning your final destiny: Ken and Ashley Kutzli along with Tyler McGeehan

A panel discussion will follow the presentation and conclude with snacks and conversations.

The Voice for Clinton County’s Children receives donation


The Voice for Clinton County’s Children has received a generous donation from Cedar Creek Hospital of Michigan St. Johns staff who raised $500 for during their staff family picnic.


Help celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Historical Society


Buy it for the calendar; keep it for the vintage photos.

The Clinton County Historical Society was established in 1974. To begin the celebration they have collected vintage photographs from around the county to illustrate a 2024 calendar.

Beyond its practical use, the calendar will make a great souvenir or gift. It is now available for pre-order and ready for pick-up by September 14.

The calendar will also be available to purchase at the CCHS Program about the Orphan Train at AgroLiquid, September 14, at 6:30 p.m.

Arts Council offers classes

Watercolor Skill Building Workshop with Lisabeth Curnow – Tuesday,
Tuesday, September 19, 1:00 – 5:00 p.m.

No more wishy-washy watercolor paintings. Learn the principles and techniques needed to take your watercolor paintings to the next level in this Watercolor Workshop at The Art & Soul Gallery.

Through a series of skill building exercises, award winning watercolor artist, Lisabeth Curnow, will show you how to create various textures, shadows, and depth of tone. These skills will enable you to paint more realistic landscapes and still-life.

This workshop is for anyone interested in creating watercolor paintings that are inspired by the world around them.

Previous watercolor experience is helpful.

Bring your own supplies to get a better understanding and knowledge of how to use them. Otherwise, supplies will be provided. This class is $60.

Paint Pouring for Beginners, Thursday, September 28 6:30 – 8:30 p.m.
$27.00 – $30.00

In this Paint Pouring class at the Art & Soul Gallery, you will learn how to apply chemical and color theory to pouring paint. You will learn how to combine oil, flotrol, ink and paint to create cells and to prevent your colors from muddying. You can do up to three 8″ x 8″pour paintings. Due to drying times, the paintings will be made on Thurs, Sept 28th, but pick up will be the following week.

The cost of the class will be $30.

SJHS Class of 1983 40th Class Reunion is September 30, 2023

The St. Johns High School Class of 1983 40th class reunion will be held on Saturday, September 30, 2023, at The Emerald Golf Course, 2300 W. Maple Rapids Rd, St. Johns, from 7:00-11:00 p.m.

The cost is $35 per person. Please include a note with your payment stating your current name and the name you had when you graduated.

There will also be a 9-hole golf scramble at the North Star Golf Course, 4550 S. Bagley Rd, Ithaca, with a 10:00 a.m. tee time. All classmates and their spouses/significant others are invited to attend. Cost is $22 per person. You may sign up as a 4-person group, or individually.
