Rotarians honor First Responders
by Maralyn Fink
St. Johns Rotarians honored the community’s First Responders on the historical and somber day of September 11. They presented two speakers from the Federal Bureau of Investigation to address the club members and guests.Next they recognized three special guests from local First Responders organizations including Chief David Kirk of the St. Johns Police Department, Director Lynn Weber of the Clinton Area Ambulance Service and Firefighter Clinton Canfieldof the St. Johns Fire Department. Unfortunately leaders from Clinton County Sheriff’s Department and Clinton County Central Dispatch 9-1-1 were not able to attend due to schedule conflicts.
Following the Rotary Club meeting, local Rotarians brought one dozen cookies to each of the above First Responders’ home office, for their fellow First Responders to enjoy. St. Johns Fire Department could have been accused of double dipping when they received cards and more cookies from Kindergartners from St. Joseph School.
Museum extends quilt display

The quilt display is extended through September due to the interest in the quilts. This collection highlights seventeen quilts including crazy quilts, embroidered names on quilt squares, some with appliqués and one quilt with a few hundred one inch squares sewed together by hand.
The 2018 annual exhibit continues to honor those brave young Clinton County men who fought and died in World War One. Many photographs, artifacts from the war, a WWI Army uniform and documents are featured in the display.

We gladly welcome others to attend and share as they may desire. We also look to share recent milestones and pending efforts relative to the ongoing Maple River Watershed management plan.

Clinton County will hold the Fall Waterfowl Hunt. Tom Olson from Clinton County Parks and Green Space will talk about the upcoming managed goose/waterfowl hunts to be held at Clinton Lakes park. The objective for public hunting of waterfowl in Clinton Lakes County Park is to manage nuisance geese. While geese are a special focus of the hunting program, successful applicants may hunt any waterfowl species, subject only to current federal and state game laws.
Full details on the hunts can be found on the application and permit forms available on-line at https://www.clinton-county.org/FormCenter/Parks-Recreation-9/Waterfowl-Hunting-Application-Clinton-La-72 or by visiting the Clinton County Courthouse, 100 E. State, Street – Suite 2100, St. Johns, MI 49979. You may also e-mail the Clinton County Parks and Green Space office at parks@clinton-county.org and the forms will be sent by a reply e-mail.
A FOMR business meeting will follow the presentations. This will include consideration of those individuals interested in participating on the board. We encourage attendees to come early or plan to stay afterward to take a walk or bring a canoe/kayak, to enjoy the amenities at the park.
