Real Men Wear Pink

Men In Pink with Darlene Hufnagel of the Cancer Society has invited Curt Keck from Keck-Coleman Funeral Home in St Johns to represent the St Johns area. This is a fundraiser for the Cancer Society thru the month of October. Curt must wear something pink thru this time frame.

Spaghetti Dinner Fundraiser for Eureka Elementary School
A benefit spaghetti dinner will be hosted by Lowe United Methodist Church on Saturday, November 10 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. The church is located at 5485 W. Lowe Rd. St. Johns.

Donations will help pay for Eureka Elementary School class supplies, playground upgrades, field trip transportation and PTO sponsored events

City of St. Johns Headlee Override Nov 6 Ballot Proposal explanation

The St. Johns City Commission has authorized a Headlee Override ballot measure for the November 6, 2018 election. A successful vote for the ballot measure will restore the City’s general operating millage to 10 mills, as allowed by our City Charter.

The additional funds generated by restoring the millage will be used for general governmental purposes, including additional funding for the City’s pension plan.


Work of the Heart needs volunteers

You can make a difference for the cherished foster and adoptive children in our program. Volunteers are needed to make the Annual Holiday Party and Store a great success for the Work of Heart children.

This event takes a lot of preparation, and they need your help. The event will be held on Saturday, December 8th, 2018 at the CCRESA Conference Center in St. Johns across from McDonald’s/Kroger shopping center.

Between now and then a lot of things must be done to prepare. If you could help in any way, whether in be preparing a craft or activity ahead of time, or helping with the children on the day of the event, please contact Peggy Hollingworth ASAP at hollin43@msu.edu or 989-224-5296.

Offered through Clinton County MSU Extension, the Work of Heart program provides education and support to enable foster and adoptive parents to provide a safe, nurturing and healthy environment for the children in their care. The program also provides supportive, educational and recreational programs for the children in foster care and those who have been adopted out of care.


East Olive Community Center to celebrate Grand Opening – Saturday, November 3

Join organizers for the Grand Opening Celebration of the new East Olive Community Center on Saturday, November 3 for an afternoon of fun and games.

There will be various carnival games, arts and Crafts, pumpkin painting, hay rides, Story time, indoor big screen movie and many other activities for families.

The Center is located in the former East Olive Elementary School building located at 2583 Green Road east of St. Johns.


Wine and Cheese Brown Bag Auction benefits Scouts

Wine and Cheese Brown Bag Auction Fundraiser Event Friday November 9th 7 p.m. at Columbian Hall in St. Johns. All profits will benefit local Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts of Clinton County.

Bring a gift valued at over $20 in a brown or decorated bag. Bring a bottle of wine to share. You must be age 21 to enter. Cheese, crackers, fruit and snacks provided by the Knights of Columbus St. John Council #3281. It is always a great time. They hope to see you all there.


Soup kitchen makes last stop for 2018 season

His Cup Runneth Over, a mobile soup kitchen, will be making the last stop for the 2018 season at

– First Congregational Church, 100 Maple Ave, St. Johns 11 a.m.-1 p.m., Tuesday, October 30.

Soup, bread, fruit and dessert will be served to all who come free of charge. All are welcome.

Socktober ends soon

During the month of October, Briggs District Library is collecting new socks and underwear for children and adults that will be donated to local charities.

Please join them with a simple and meaningful gesture to help families and friends who are in need. A new pair of socks, such a little thing, but an important item of clothing that is rarely donated to the less fortunate.

These new items can be dropped off at the library circulation desk until Wednesday, October 31. More information about Socktober can be found on the website.

Hearing and Vision Screening Clinic

Vision screening is required for all children entering kindergarten. The Mid-Michigan District Health Department offers free vision testing, as well as hearing screening tests for all children ages 3 to 21. WIC Benefit Pick-Up Schedule

Pregnant and breastfeeding women, infants and children up to 5 years old may be eligible for free food through the WIC (Women, Infants & Children) program. The Mid-Michigan District Health Department WIC Benefit Pick-up Clinics are scheduled as follows:

Leonard announces November office hours

Speaker of the House Tom Leonard, R-DeWitt, will host office hours to meet with local residents and discuss their concerns about state government. Speaker Leonard represents Michigan’s 93rd District.

The office hours will take place on Friday, November 9, from 8 – 9:30 a.m. at Big Boy, 1408 Old U.S. 27, St. Johns.

Local residents are encouraged to bring comments, questions and concerns about local government and anything else happening in the local community.
