Changes to Fall Leaf Collection
No need to bag leaves any longer; the City of St. Johns has purchased a leaf vacuum truck system. This vacuum will pick up leaves more efficiently and quickly, while leaving behind less debris.
The schedule for picking up leaves is as follows:
North of M-21 (State Street) will be the first half of October and November
South of M-21 (State Street) will be the second half of October and November
Please rake leaves in a pile in the City right-of-way area in front your house, between the sidewalk and the curb. If there is no sidewalk in front of your property, please rake leaves 6 inches behind the curb but not further than 6 feet from the curb.
Do not rake leaves in the street because the leaves can be hazardous with traffic and also block storm sewers from draining properly. Anyone raking or otherwise placing leaves, trimmings, and similar type organic plant materials in the public street will be subject to a $50 civil infraction fine.
If you are a senior or physically challenged and are unable to dispose of your leaves, contact City Offices at (989) 224-8944, ext. 282 or email twright@ci.saint-johns.mi.us by November 1st so arrangements can be made.

Girls on the Run seeks new sites
Girls on the Run of Mid Michigan is currently accepting new sites to host teams for the spring season and provide program opportunities to more girls. Current sites include local schools, community centers, churches and hospitals. Each site must have a volunteer site liaison, a safe space for physical activity and be able to provide both outdoor and indoor meeting locations.
At each site volunteer coaches lead teams of 8-15 girls through research-based curricula that include lessons on confidence, treating others with care and contributing to the community. During the ten-week program, girls complete a community service project and become physically and emotionally prepared to participate in a celebratory 5k event.
To learn more about starting a new Girls on the Run site, visit gotrmidmichigan.org/Start-Site or contact Stephanie McClintock at stephanie.mcclintock@girlsontherun.org.
