Nanette J. Havens
Nanette J. “Nan” Havens died Friday, November 2, 2018 at the age of 85 with her family by her side. She was born February 21, 1933 in St. Johns, MI the daughter of Ellsworth and Edith (Stevens) Stockwell. Nan was a member of TOPS in Mesa, AZ, St. Johns and Lake City, MI. She was also a member of CURVES in Mesa and Lake City. Nan was an active person always on the go. She enjoyed bowling and especially loved her Wednesday lunches with family and friends. Until recently, she spent summers in Lake City, and winters in Mesa, AZ. Nan married Eugene Havens on August 31, 1952, and he preceded her in death in 2011.
Surviving is one daughter, Julie Havens (Marty Hulbert) of Perrinton; two sons, Alan (Jeanette) and Scott (Jill) all of St. Johns; five grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. She was also predeceased by two sisters, Katie and Jeanie.
A memorial service will be held at 3:00 PM Friday, November 9, 2018 at Keck-Coleman Funeral Home, St. Johns with Pastor Kathy Leydorf-Keck officiating. The family will receive relatives and friends from 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM Friday, November 9 at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Marjorie Ann Bleis
Marjorie Ann (Morehouse) Bleis, age 87, of Lansing, MI, passed away Friday, November 2, 2018, at McLaren Greater Lansing Hospital.
Funeral Services will be held at St. Peter Lutheran Church, St. Johns, MI 48879, at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, November 6, 2018 with Pastor Bill Wangelin officiating. Burial will take place at St. Peter Lutheran Cemetery.
Marjorie was born in St. Johns, Michigan on January 3, 1931, the daughter of Herbert and Hulda (Moehring) Bleis. She attended St. Peters Lutheran School and Church in Riley, and Rodney B. Wilson High School graduating in 1948. She was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Lansing.
She is survived by daughters: Susan Kline of Auburn Hills, MI; Shirley and Ernie Perich of Ann Arbor, MI; and grandson Evan Perich of Nashville, TN. She was preceded in death by her parents, Herb and Hulda Bleis, and sister Patsy Carlson.
Memorials may be made to Our Savior Lutheran Church, 7910 E. St Joe Hwy Lansing, MI 48917. The family is being served by Smith Family Funeral Homes – Osgood Chapel, St. Johns, Michigan.
Vernie Mae Nichols
Vernie Mae Nichols, age 71, of Dewitt, MI, passed away Thursday, November 1, 2018, at Sparrow Hospital, Lansing, MI.
Visitation will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes – Osgood Chapel, St. Johns, MI on Sunday, November 4, 2018, from 4-8 P.M. A Memorial Service will be held at the funeral home on Monday, November 5, 2018 at 1:00 P.M., with Rev. Matthew Olson officiating, and with visitation from 11:00 A.M. until time of service.
Vernie was born in Chicago, IL, on November 20, 1946, the daughter of Dean and Betty Jean (Waldon) Harwell. On February 6, 1965 Vernie married Gerald Nichols in Chicago, IL. When their children were in high school, Vernie and Gerald went back together and earned their High School Diplomas from St. Johns High School. Vernie later received an associate’s degree from Lansing Community College. She was a computer graphic artist for MSU – Criminal Justice Department.
Vernie was very involved in her children and grandchildren’s lives and a mother to many people. She was a Girl Scout leader, Theater Mom, and softball coach. Vernie and Gerald started the Wooden Nickles 4-H Club. She was a professional cake decorator. Vernie loved music, camping, reading, sewing, Trivial Pursuit, and genealogy. She had a strong faith in God and instilled that with her children. Later in life, Vernie enjoyed bowling and was an avid slot machine enthusiast. These things were always better when shared with Gerald and close friends.
Vernie is survived by her loving husband and hero of 53 years Gerald of DeWitt, 3 children: Sherri (Jeff) Kolb of Grand Ledge, Gerry (Jacey) Nichols of Durand, and Lori Jean Nichols of Lansing. She is also survived by 7 grandchildren: Katelyn Nichols, Conner (Margo) Nichols, Samuel Nichols, Sophie Young, Joshua Kolb, Johnny Kolb, and Jeffrey Kolb; great grandson Ronan, sister Mary (Keith) Lee and many nieces and nephews. Vernie was preceded in death by her parents, father and mother-in-law Lloyd and Doris Nichols, sister Deloris “DeeDee” Barnhart, and sister-in-law Wilma Barnhart.
