Douglas S. Carpenter
Douglas S. Carpenter died Sunday, December 9, 2018 at the age of 90. On October 16, 1949 Alice Brewbaker became his loving wife of 70 years, and she survives him. He was born November 8, 1928 in St. Johns, MI the son of Harry and Mary (Hoener) Carpenter. Doug was an Army veteran of both WW II and Korea and was a customer service / sales agent for Federal Mogul and Auto Specialties. Doug was a very outgoing person and he loved to socialize. He cherished the time spent with his children, grand and great grandchildren. He enjoyed MSU sports and Lions football. In his younger years he enjoyed golf, gardening, traveling, working on home projects and shopping. He was an active community volunteer sharing his time between the St. Johns Planning Commission, Boy Scouts of America, Meals on Wheels, Junior Achievement and as a former member of the St. Johns Lions Club.
Also surviving are two sons, Brian (Angela) of Haslett and Drew (Nenita) of Hanford, CA; three grandchildren, Shannon, Kristy and Justin and two great grandchildren, Hayden and Hanna. He was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Cummings, and three brothers, Jack, Harry and Merrill.
Following Doug’s wishes he was cremated and there will be a graveside service at a later date with military honors provided by the St. Johns Honor Guard. The family was assisted with these arrangements by Keck-Coleman Funeral Home, St. Johns.
Lois J. Nieman
Lois J. Nieman age 81 of Perrinton, MI, passed away Saturday, December 8, 2018, at The Laurels of Fulton, Gratiot County, MI.
Cremation has taken place, and the family will have a private memorial service.
Lois was born in St. Johns, MI on April 5, 1937, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Hiner. She married Jack Albert Nieman. She enjoyed watching and feeding birds. She liked music, Christmas shows, NASCAR and game shows. Family was very important to her, and she loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren very much.
She is survived by 5 daughters: Lisa and Chris Alex, Carol and Robert Miller, Debbie and Scott Nicholas, Melanie Bentley, and Donna and Mike Roberts, sisters: Joyce Winslow, Eva Havens, and sister-in-law Eula Hiner. She is also survived by several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and sons: Jackie and David, son-in-law Ken Bentley, 2 grandchildren, 2 brothers and 4 sisters.
