Auditions scheduled at Wilson Center

Wilson Center Productions has announced its upcoming performance of Jesus Christ Superstar at the historic Wilson Center Auditorium. Auditions will be February 7 and 8.
All area actors are invited to audition at First Congregational Church of St. Johns, 100 Maple St., St. Johns on Thursday, February 7 from 3 – 7 p.m. and on Friday, February 8 from 6 – 10 p.m.

Come with a prepared song from the 1970s to the present in a rock style or a song from the show and a one minute comedic monologue.
Rehearsals begin on Monday, February 18, from 6 – 9 p.m., and shows at the Wilson Center Auditorium will be April 4, 5 and 6 at 7:30 p.m.

Briggs District Library News
March is Reading Month – We’re celebrating the 50th anniversary of The Very Hungry Caterpillar with stories, snacks, crafts, and games all related to author Eric Carle! Three programs to choose from on Tuesday, March 5 (ages 3-4), March 12 (ages 5-6), and March 19 (ages 5-9), 6:30-7:30. Registration will be required for all programs and opens on Tuesday, February 13.
Read with the Animals – Representatives from Potter Park Zoo will bring a few small animals to the library, and read some stories that feature those animals. This free family program will take place on Saturday, February 2, from 1:00-2:00pm. Registration is appreciated, and is now available.
Orphan Train in Michigan – Michigan historians Al and Dave Eicher will be at the library to share their presentation on the Orphan Train, and the riders who ended up in Michigan. This interesting piece of Michigan history will be discussed on Tuesday, February 5 from 6:30-7:30. No library card is needed for this free program, but advance registration is appreciated, and is now open.
Impression 5 Maker Program – Children ages 7-12 can join us on Tuesday, February 12 from 6:30-7:30 when we’ll learn about circuits and make some special projects. This program will be led by staff from Impression 5 Science Center. Space is limited. Registration is required and is open now.
Seed Swap– Abigail Harper from MSU Extension will be here on Thursday, February 14th from 6:30-7:30 to discuss seed saving from your home flower or vegetable garden. Participants are encouraged to bring seeds they have harvested to share with others. No library card is needed for this free program, but advance registration is appreciated, and is now open.
Chef’s Surprise – Budding chefs ages 7-10 can join us Tuesday, February 19th, 6:00- 7:30 when we will learn to make some delicious sweets. Registration is required for this program and is open now.
Chapter Chatter Presents “Readers Theater” – “The 3 Little Pigs and the Big Bad Wolf” and “Goldilocks and the 3 Bears” Independent listeners ages 6 – 8 are invited to join us in creating and presenting 2 productions. Children will make/gather, props/costumes for both stories and present both productions to family and friends at the last session of Chapter Chatter. Sessions are on Thursday evenings, 7-7:45pm, February 21st – March 14th. Registration is required for this program and is open now.
Bookaholics Book Club – We are continuing our “Books and Films” theme in February with Thomas Harris’ The Silence of the Lambs. This psychological thriller follows FBI trainee Clarice Starling as she seeks guidance from the homicidal Dr. Hannibal Lecter, in hopes of stopping a serial killer. Copies of the book are now available. The club meets Thursday, February 21 at 6:30 in the bay window seating area of the library.
Lapsit Storytime – Children ages 12 – 24 months with adult participation are invited to join us for age appropriate stories, music, creative movement and simple sign language. Choose Friday mornings, 10:30 – 11 from February 15- March 22 OR Monday evenings, 6:30-7 from February 18 – March 25. It is a wonderful opportunity for children to socialize with each other. Registration is required for this program and is open now.
Friendship Yoga – Sign up to share the story “Yoga Friends: a pose-by-pose partner adventure for kids by Mariam and Rolf Gates. We will introduce children (ages 7 – 9) to the delights and benefits of partner yoga. We will learn how cooperation helps us to imagine, move and have fun in a whole new way. The program will be on Monday, February 4th, 6:30 to 7:30. Registration is required and open now. Yoga mats will be provided.
Toddler Storytime– Children ages 2-3 (with a participating adult) are invited to join us on Wednesday mornings, 10:30-11:00, February 6th- February 27th where we will read stories, move to the music, and explore our imagination with crafts. Registration is required and is open now.
Tales to Tails – 15 minute sessions for children ages 6-12 to practice reading aloud to Ruger, a certified therapy dog. Ruger will be at the library the following Thursday evenings from 6:30-7:30: 2/14 and 2/28, 3/14 and 3/28, 4/11 and 4/25, 5/9 and 5/23. Registration is required and open at this time.
Connections – Patrons needing help with OverDrive/Libby, RBDigital, or any of the library’s other e-services will be able to come to the library for drop-in tech help each Wednesday from 2:00-3:00 p.m.

Moolenaar Announces February office hours

Hearing and Vision Screening Clinic
Vision screening is required for all children entering kindergarten. The Mid-Michigan District Health Department offers free vision testing, as well as hearing screening tests for all children ages 3 to 21.
