Farmers Market returns June 8

The St. Johns Farmers Market will open for the season this Saturday, June 8.

The market is open from 8:00 a.m. to noon on Saturdays and is located on Maple Street, just west of the courthouse.

Sister Hazel benefit concert is June 15

A concert to benefit the return of the Soap Box Derby and other local organizations will be held at Uncle John’s Cider Mill on Saturday, June 15, 2019 from 3:00 – 11:00 p.m.

The concert will feature the platinum rock band, Sister Hazel, who has been noted as, “One of the Top 100 Most Influential Independent Performers of the last 15 years” by Performing Songwriter Magazine. Also performing will be Sadie Bass, Blues 202, Others Eyes, and Wing It.

Proceeds from the concert will go to the Saint Johns Soap Box Derby, Boy Scouts, Saint Johns VFW Post 4113, and an animal rescue organization.

Ticket prices are $30 general admission and $100 VIP.


Special Olympics Area 28 Golf Scramble is June 15

Mark your calendars June 15, 2019 for the 23rd annual Special Olympics Area 28 Clinton County Golf Scramble at the Emerald Golf Course. Continental breakfast, 18 holes with cart, luncheon, raffles, prizes are all included for only a $70 entry fee.

They are looking for golfers and sponsors to make this outing a success. The money raised helps pay for equipment, uniforms, transportation and much more. Area 28 wants to reach out and include as many children and adults with intellectual disabilities in Special Olympics as possible. In order to do so, they need community support.

Soup kitchen makes stops in area

His Cup Runneth Over, a mobile soup kitchen, will be making a stop at

– First Congregational Church, 100 Maple Ave, St. Johns 11 a.m.-1 p.m., Tuesday, June 11

– Suntree Apartments, 1100 Sunview Dr., St. Johns, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Thursday, June 13

– The Meadows of St. Johns, 2265 W. Parks Rd., St. Johns, from 3 pm to 5 pm, Thursday, June 13.

Soup, bread, fruit and dessert will be served to all who come free of charge. For more information call 517-388-2005.

Where: Archery Range. Park at the East Picnic Area and head across the street to the range.

Chronic Pain PATH workshop coming up

“Chronic Pain PATH (Personal Action Toward Health) is a 6-week workshop designed for people with chronic pain. In this interactive workshop, people are taught effective tools to better self-manage their condition and its impact on their life.

Managing chronic pain is more than taking medications. We address a variety of topics including fatigue management, dealing with difficult emotions, and pacing and planning. Includes the Moving Easy Program: safe exercises to improve strength, flexibility, and endurance. Caregivers and significant others are also welcome to sign up and attend as active participants. The workshop is free of charge courtesy of Michigan State Medical Society. Pre-registration is required.”

The Chronic Pain PATH workshop will be held at Clinton County Medical Center, 1005 S. US 127
St. Johns on Wednesdays, July 17 – August 21, 2019 from 2:00 – 4:30 p.m.

Adam D. Deyoung of Eagle was among more than 850 graduates honored at Michigan Technological University’s Spring Commencement held on the Houghton, Michigan campus May 4.

Former astronaut and combat fighter pilot Gregory H. Johnson, who lives part time in Traverse, City Michigan, was the commencement speaker. The student address was delivered by Monica Brechting of Grand Rapids, Michigan.

Adam D. Deyoung received a Bachelor of Science In Materials Science and Engineering.


Rep. Graham Filler announces office hours

State Rep. Graham Filler has announced his next set of local coffee hours will be held Friday, June 7 from 8 to 9:30 a.m. at Big Boy, 1408 Old U.S. 27 in St. Johns.

“Being an effective representative for our community involves actively listening to the residents that live here,” Filler said. “I welcome anyone with questions, concerns, or ideas to join me.”

Moolenaar Announces Office Hours for June

Congressman John Moolenaar announced office hours to be held by constituent relations representatives at locations throughout the Fourth District. The purpose of the office hours is to help residents in need of assistance with a federal agency, like the IRS and the VA.
