Acrylic Painting FUNdamentals class coming July 15, 16

Andrea Czarnik, who recently won “Best Of Show” during the St. Johns Plein Air Event, will be teaching an acrylic painting class.

Paint your own masterpiece use fundamentals of painting, including composition, value, color, lights and shadows. After a short demonstration, you will practice sketching and color mixing on a given canvas before you develop your own style using these guidelines.

A one day session with Andrea Czarnik will cost $65. Classes will be held on July 15 or 16, and participants may choose one date. Sessions at the St. Johns Train Depot will be held from 10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. with lunch break if needed. Registration is open to those 15 years old and up.

Supplies needed include A reference photo to paint from, a variety of brushes: No. 6, 10, 12 for acrylic and a canvas 8×10″ or 9×12.

The class will start with a limited palette. Regular artist grade acrylic paint such as Liquitex, Masters in Primary Colors: Red, Yellow, Blue and White. Supplies are available at Hobby Lobby or Michaels.

Andrea Czarnik is a local artist from Saginaw MI. Her earliest artistic pursuits were developed from attending Chicago’s Art Institute and the former American Academy of Art. She favors painting en plein air using oil paints predominantly. However, she also likes the challenge of painting in watercolor and watercolor with pastel for experimental trials with composition and color.

Everyday surroundings influence her choices in rendering a series of places in time. During the last four years other area artists have motivated her to explore composition and color harmonies at plein air events in the Midwest and Western USA.
The expediency of painting on location, if done in an orderly and thoughtful process produces unique outcomes, balancing light and dark shapes with shadows, form, and texture.
