Ice cream social is Sunday, August 25

Go on out to Lowe United Methodist Church at 5485 W Lowe Rd on Sunday, August 25 from 1 – 3 p.m. for Sloppy Joes, Hotdogs, Ice Cream and more. Join them for good food and fellowship. All are welcome.
There will be a free will offering at the door which will benefit a local charity.

Course: Come experience The Gem of Mid-Michigan, The Emerald Golf Course, on a different level. Picture yourself running thru a state of the art golf course surrounded by stately Maples and tall great Oaks. The sounds of wildlife surround you as you run along the rolling fairways. 5k run/walk, all abilities and ages welcome.
This race is endorsed by The Governor’s Council on Physical Fitness and part of the 2019 Michigan Fitness Foundation Challenge. The challenge encourages Michiganders to engage with events that promote physical activity, health and wellness.
Unplug your child for a day is September 7

In an effort to introduce Michigan youth to the outdoors, partners of Pheasants Forever are hosting the 19th Annual Clinton County, Chuck Gorman Youth Day, the event is taking place Saturday, September 7, 2019 from 9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. at the Fowler Conservation Club, located 2.5 miles South of Fowler, at 3580 S Wright Rd, Fowler, MI 48835. Come anytime, but get there early enough for all the activities before the event ends at 2 p.m.
This is a free event, open to children ages 5-15 years old, who must attend with a Parent/Guardian. It will provide hands-on outdoor-oriented activities for the participating youth. Free lunch and drinks will also be provided to all attending.

First Baptist Church to hold service and picnic September 1
On Sunday, September 1 the First Baptist Church of St. Johns invites you to their annual church service in the Performance Shell at the St. Johns City Park at 10:30 a.m. with a picnic following the service in the Main Pavilion. Parents please note: There will only be childcare for Nursery, 0-2yrs. old and Toddlers, 2-3yrs. old.
Hamburgers and hot dogs, table service and drinks will be served along with other delicious dishes.
If it rains, you are invited to attend the Service at the church, 512 S Whittemore Street, and the picnic will be in the gym.

Beginning on September 3, 2019 Clinton Transit will provide new bus service hours 6:00 a.m.-7:00 p.m. New call center hours will be 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Soup kitchen makes stops in area
His Cup Runneth Over, a mobile soup kitchen, will be making a stop at
– First Congregational Church, 100 Maple Ave, St. Johns 11 a.m.-1 p.m., Tuesday, August 27
– The Meadows of St. Johns, 2265 W. Parks Rd., St. Johns, from 3 pm to 5 pm, Thursday, August 29.

Briggs District Library News
Sister Pie – Lisa Ludwinski, a 2019 Michigan Notable author, will be at the library Wednesday, September 25 from 6:30-7:30 to discuss her cookbook and her Detroit-based pie shop, Sister Pie. This special bakery has earned a following for its famous pies and cookies, as well as for its focus on employees, environment, and economy. No library card is needed to attend this free program, but advance registration is appreciated, and begins Wednesday, August 21.
TAB – Our first Teen Advisory Board Meeting of the fall will be on Tuesday, September 24 from 7:00-7:30 p.m. Joining TAB allows teens to earn volunteer hours by helping library staff plan teen programs, offering ideas about the library’s teen collection, and creating a welcoming space for all teens. All interested teens are welcome to join us. For more information, stop by the library and talk with Brett or Liz.
Window Painting – Tweens and teens can flex their artistic muscles when we gather to paint the library’s windows for Halloween! We will supply all the materials, so the painters can show up ready to create on Tuesday, October 1 at 6:30. Registration is appreciated, and begins Tuesday, September 3. On Tuesday, November 5 at 6:30 we will provide food and drinks when we gather to clean the windows and prep for a winter art project.
Maker Electronics Program – Tweens and teens ages 10-13 can join us on Tuesday, September 10 from 6:30-7:30 as we discover what makes old electronic equipment work by taking it apart. Registration is required.
Toddler StoryTime – “That’s What It’s All About!” Register now for Thursday mornings, 10:30-11 am or Thursday evenings, 6:30-7 p.m., September 5 – October 10. Children ages 2-3 years old with adult participation will enjoy stories, music, and creative movement. We will play, learn and grow together. Registration is required.
Lapsit StoryTime – To “B” or Not to “B” Children ages 12-24 months with adult participation can join us in the fun of exploring the letter “B”. Choose between Friday mornings, 10:30-11 a.m., September 6 – October 11 OR Monday evenings, 6:30-7 p.m., September 9 – October 14. “B” is the theme of our stories, music, creative movement and simple signs. Registration is required. Bubbles, bears, bunnies, balls, birds, blocks and more, oh my!
LEGOS IN SPACE! – Ages 7-12 are invited to enjoy imaginative fun building and creating new worlds (maybe an alien or a spaceship or a new planet) with LEGO blocks on Tuesday, August 27, 6:30-7:30 p.m. Registration is required.
Tales to Tails – Ruger, a certified therapy dog will be back at the library this fall! Children ages 6-12 can sign up for a 15-minute session to practice reading aloud to Ruger on the 2nd or 4th Thursday of each month. Space is limited, and registration is required.
Bookaholics Book Club – The September selection of the Bookaholics Book Club is The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society by Mary Ann Shaffer and Annie Barrows. Told in a series of letters, the novel is set in the aftermath of World War II, where a writer forms an unexpected bond with the residents of Guernsey Island when she decides to write a book about their experiences during the war. Copies of the book are now available. The club will meet on Thursday, September 19 at 6:30 p.m. at the library. New members are always welcome to join.
Euchre Club – Our adult Euchre Club will meet Friday, August 23 from 6:00-9:00 p.m. This free, fun, social is event is open to adults to register as single players or with a partner, and there is no cost or buy-in to play. Registration is very much appreciated, and is now available.
Connections – Patrons needing help with OverDrive/Libby, RBDigital, or any of the library’s other e-services will be able to come to the library for drop-in tech help each Wednesday from 2:00-3:00 p.m.
Library Closure– The Library will also be closed Saturday August 31 and Monday September 2 for the Labor Day Holiday. The drop box on the Library porch will be available for returns throughout these closures.

Moolenaar Announces Office Hours for September
Congressman John Moolenaar announced office hours to be held by constituent relations representatives at locations throughout the Fourth District. The purpose of the office hours is to help residents in need of assistance with a federal agency, including the IRS and the VA.
