Theresa Eleanor Fox

Theresa Eleanor Fox, age 92, of Fowler, MI, passed away Wednesday, April 11, 2018 at Hospice House of Mid Michigan, Lansing, MI.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Fowler, MI, on Monday, April 16, 2018 at 10:30 A.M., with Rev. Fr. Dennis Howard officiating. Burial will take place at Most Holy Trinity Cemetery, Fowler, MI. Visitation will be held on Sunday, April 15, 2018 from 2-9 P.M. with family present from 2-4 and 7-9 P.M. at Smith Family Funeral Homes – Goerge Chapel, Fowler, MI with a Rosary being prayed at 6:45 P.M.

Theresa was born in Fowler, MI on October 26, 1925, the daughter of Ignatz and Theresa (Spitzley) Koenigsknecht. Theresa married Stanley J. Fox on June 29, 1948 at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Fowler. He preceded her in death on January 22, 2012. Theresa retired from Fisher Autobody. She loved crafting, quilting, woodworking, sewing and was an avid Michigan State Spartan fan. After Theresa retired, she and Stanley traveled extensively. They visited every state in the Union and also traveled overseas. Spending time with her grandchildren was most important to her. Theresa was a lifetime member of Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church, and she resided all of her life in Fowler.

She is survived by her 4 daughters: Ruth Ann and Gordon Thelen of Fowler, MI; Janet Dorn of Williamston MI; Donna and Alan Yoder of Sturgis, MI; Margaret Fox and Dave Kenyon of Middleville, MI; 2 sons: Steven and Lindsay Fox of Parkton, MD; John Fox and Robert Miller of Norfolk, VA; 13 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; and 3 step-great grandchildren. Theresa was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and son-in-law Richard Dorn.

Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice. The family is being served by Smith Family Funeral Homes – Goerge Chapel, Fowler, MI.


Linn J. Pontius

Linn J. Pontius, 77 of rural DeWitt went to be with his Lord and Savior at his home on Friday, April 6, 2018. Linn was born on June 7, 1940, one of seven children to Mark and Ruth (Pierce) Pontius and graduated from DeWitt High School. He married Gayle Martin on September 10, 1966 and she passed away in 2004. Linn worked at Sealed Power/MAHLE for several years and was a farmer. He loved country and gospel music, was a member of the Mint City Jammers and attended Nashville Baptist Church.

He is survived by daughter, Jenny (Tom Tebo) Reeves of Portland, son, Martin (Elizabeth) Pontius of Holt, 4 grandchildren, Makayla (Brandon Varner) Reeves and Colton Reeves, Logan and Alita Pontius who referred to him as “Bumpy Road Grandpa” and has expecting a great grandson to be born soon; special and significant love, Rita Domke of Ovid, brother-in-law and best friend, George Sargent of Grand Ledge. He was predeceased by siblings, Virgiline Zell, Durward Pontius, Kenneth Pontius, Gerald (Bud) Pontius, Donna Sargent and his twin sister, Linda Lyon.

The family will receive friends and relatives at Keck-Coleman Funeral Home, St. Johns on Tuesday, April 10, 2018. 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. Funeral services will be at the funeral home on Wednesday, April 11, 2018 at 11:00 A.M. with Pastor Lester DeGroot officiating. Burial will be at Wacousta Cemetery. Hilda Rozella Chant

Hilda Rozella Chant, age 89, of St. Johns, MI, passed away Friday, April 6, 2018, at Hazel I. Findlay Country Manor, St. Johns, MI.

A Memorial Service will be held at a later date. Burial will take place at South Bingham Township Cemetery, St. Johns, MI also at a later date.

Hilda was born in Gratiot County, MI on January 8, 1929, the daughter of Norman and Violet (Shaw) Johnson. Hilda married Arthur Dee “Art” Chant on April 23, 1948 in St. Johns, MI. Art passed away on December 6, 2009. Hilda loved being with her family, especially her grandchildren. She also enjoyed spending time with extended family. Hilda had a close relationship with her aunts and her best friend Greta. Hilda and Greta went to business school together and lived with each other during that time. Family always came first for Hilda. She enjoyed bowling, watching her son race stock cars and going to the 4-H Fairs with her children. She worked at JC Penney as a sales clerk and also at Olive Center Elementary School as a teacher’s aide. In their later years, she and Art spent winters in Florida. Hilda resided most of her life in St. Johns.

She is survived by her daughter Gail and Mike Wierman of St. Johns, MI; daughter Julie Gordon of St. Johns, MI; son Eric Chant of St. Johns, MI; 5 grandchildren: Troy Wierman, Stacy Cataline, Jessica Kenyon, Angela Swanchara, and Kenny Swanchara; 8 great-grandchildren Brittaney, Morgan, Drew, Colin, Ty, Ella, Madison and Emma; and extended family member Lissa. Hilda was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her daughter Dale, who was a twin sister to Gail, Hilda’s sister in infancy, Norma and her aunts.

Gaylord B. Craig

Gaylord B. Craig died Saturday, April 7, 2018 at the age of 85. He was born December 12, 1932 in Gratiot County, MI the son of Vern and Reba (Underwood) Craig. Gaylord is an Army veteran serving during the Korean War and was a member of the Odd Fellows Lodge # 224 in Maple Rapids. During his working career Gaylord had several jobs. He worked for Sealed Power Corp. in St. Johns and the Lear Corp. in Elsie, but first and foremost he was a farmer.

Surviving is a daughter, Holly (Ryan) Wheeler; a son, Dwight “Rocky” (Michelle) Craig; four grandchildren, Jeremy Craig, Nicole Hurt, Madison and Brianne Wheeler; several great grandchildren; a brother, Jim (Shirley) Craig and a sister, Carol Barton. He was preceded in death by his wife, Delores; a son, Randy; three brothers, Gene, Jack and Clare and two sisters, Dorothy Ward Shook and Joyce VanSickle.

Following Gaylord’s wishes cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made to the Maple Rapids Odd Fellows Lodge #224, P.O. Box 267 Maple Rapids, MI 48853. The family was assisted with these arrangements by Keck-Coleman Funeral Home, St. Johns.


Joshua Blue Pattison

Josh Pattison, 39, passed away Wednesday March 28, 2018, following a short fight with Lung Cancer. Josh was born February 16, 1979 in Carson City. He is the son of Bob (Tami) Pattison of Elsie, MI and Karann (Jan) Vermuelen, of Lehigh Acres, FL. Josh graduated from Ovid-Elsie High School with the Class of 1997. He went on to have two beautiful sons, Calub Joshua, 19, of St. Johns and Jaden Lee, 8, of St. Johns. Josh was employed with XSell Communications. He loved the boom in his bass and going to car races.

Surviving Josh are his parents, his two sons, Melissa Ryan, special friend of St. Johns, MI, grandfather Jim Olson of Ovid, MI, and several aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends.

Josh chose to donate his body to science to hopefully benefit others. No formal services will be held per Josh’s wishes.
