Judith Kay Sleight

Judith Kay Sleight, age 76 of St. Johns, MI and formerly of Newberry, MI passed away Tuesday, October 22, 2019 at her home.

A private family gathering will take place at a later date.

Judith was born in Lansing, MI on March 14, 1943 the daughter of Harold and Gertrude (Carr) Maag. She was a graduate of Morrice High School. Judith married Duane Sleight on July 14, 1997.

Judith worked for the State of Michigan with MIOSHA. She enjoyed gardening and sewing. Judith loved watching the birds and bears when they lived in Newberry.

She is survived by her husband Duane Sleight of St. Johns, MI; son James and Angie Olney of Lansing, MI; 2 daughters: Debra and Dan Ridge of East Lansing, MI; Wendy and Scott Jones of St. Johns, MI; 3 step-daughters: Autumn Harnish of Grand Rapids, MI; Robin and John Bonter of Lyons, MI; Heather and Melinda Sleight of Charlotte, MI; many grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; sister Marion Goda of Haslett, MI; brother Ernest “Sam” and Joan Maag of Perry, MI; and sister Jean and Paul Schlicken of Morrice, MI. Judith was preceded in death by her parents, daughter Karen Olney, 3 brothers: Harold Maag Jr., Charles Maag, and Richard Maag, and 3 sisters: Shirley Wood, Mary Miller, and Laura Watson.

Memorials may be made to St. Labre Indian School. The family is being served by Smith Family Funeral Homes – Osgood Chapel, St. Johns, MI.


Gladys L. Armbrustmacher

Gladys L. Armbrustmacher died Saturday, October 19, 2019 at the age of 85. She was born April 7, 1934 in Bengal Township, Clinton County, MI to Julius and Rosa (Spitzley) Thelen. Gladys graduated from Fowler High School, Class of 1952 and was a member of Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Fowler.

She was a member of the Christian Mothers and the Catholic Order of Foresters. Gladys was an avid sports fan especially when it came to the Fowler Eagles and the Michigan Wolverines. In her younger years she played high school basketball and served as a girls’ high school basketball official after graduation. On October 15, 1955 she married James Armbrustmacher and they recently celebrated 64 years of marriage.

Surviving is her husband, Jim; four daughters, Karen (Robert) Berry of Byron Center, Sharon (Mark) Pohl of Westphalia, Sandy Armbrustmacher of Grand Ledge, Jane (Steve) Schmitt of Fowler; three sons, Jerry (Ruth), Dale (Deb) and Tom all of Fowler; 17 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren with two more on the way; one brother, Richard (Rosemary) Thelen and sisters-in-law, Anne, Rita and Jan Thelen. She was preceded in death by a grandson, Matthew Berry; sister and brother-in-law, Thelma and Hilary Simon; brother and sister-in-law, Elmer and Therese Thelen and brothers, Donald, Stanley and Kenneth Thelen.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:30 AM Wednesday, October 23, 2019 at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Fowler with Rev. Fr. Dennis Howard as Celebrant. Rite of Committal will follow at Most Holy Trinity Cemetery. The family will receive relatives and friends 2-4 and 6-8 PM Tuesday at Most Holy Trinity Church Activity Center 11159 W. Kent St. Fowler with a rosary being prayed at 3:00 PM.

The family would like to thank Jim and Gladys’ siblings and spouses and the community of Fowler for their loving support during this difficult time. Also a special thanks to the staff at Heart to Heart Hospice and the caregivers at Visiting Angels and Grace Haven Assisted Living Facility for their compassionate care of Gladys during her illness. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.

Robert E. Redman

Robert “Bob” E. Redman went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, October 17, 2019, at the age of 78. He was born July 25, 1941, in St. Johns, MI, to Earl and Florence (Voden) Redman. Bob was a member of the Ithaca Church of God and had previously served as church treasurer for First Church of God in St. Johns, for over 30 years. He enjoyed gardening, bird watching, music, working on his farm and participating in church activities and ministries.

Bob loved spending time with his family, close friends, and he cherished his grandchildren. He retired from General Motors in 2001 after 35 years of service. He then started and operated Redman Lawn Care, where his meticulous skills in mowing and landscaping were showcased. On November 23, 1963, he married Janet Zimmerman and she survives him.

Also surviving are his children, Daniel (Lori) Redman of Lima, OH, Colleen (Paul) Rigel of Lake Wales, Fl, Aaron (Emily) Redman of St. Clair Shores, MI; six grandchildren, Isaac, Benjamin and Caleb Rigel, Hannah, Hazel and Harley Redman; one sister, Ruth Ann Bradley of St. Johns, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Mary Lou Palmer and an infant daughter, Cindy.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Monday, October 21, 2019, at Keck-Coleman Funeral Home, St. Johns, with Pastor Tom Whitesel officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Rest Cemetery. The family will receive relatives and friends 2-4 and 6-8 PM Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Silent Blessings Deaf Ministries, 8930 Bash St., Ste.
