Wanda Marie Boots

Wanda Marie (Dickinson) Boots, 88, of Bridgeville, MI passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday, December 18, 2019. Wanda was born May 12, 1931 in rural Perrinton to Byron and Sylvia May (Gribben) Dickinson. She graduated from Fulton High School in 1949 and enjoyed many summers camping with her family at Tubbs Lake.

She is survived by her children, David (Sandra) Boots, Steven (Carol) Boots, Debra (Harry) Lance, Janet Mullett, Gena (Russell) Swanson and Jamie Platte; son-in-law, Lupe Vargas; 19 grandchildren; 33 great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, James Boots; a daughter, Diane Vargas; two brothers, Howard Dickinson and Homer “Wayne” Dickinson; a son-in-law, Ken Mullett and a great grandson Robert Boots.

A memorial service will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made to a charity of donor’s choice. The family was assisted with these arrangements by Keck-Coleman Funeral Home, St. Johns.


Virginia L. Devereaux

Virginia L. Devereaux, 95, of Chesaning formerly of St. Johns, MI passed away Wednesday, December 18, 2019, at Chesaning Nursing and Rehab Center, Chesaning, MI.

Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes – Osgood Chapel, St. Johns, MI, on Saturday, December 21, 2019 at 11:00 A.M., with Pastor John Miller officiating. Burial will take place at Duplain Township Cemetery, St. Johns, MI. Visitation will be held on Saturday from 10:00 A.M. until the time of service at the funeral home.

Virginia was born in Duplain Township, MI on October 30, 1924, the daughter of Carl and Beatrice (Fisher) Brewbaker. She graduated from Elsie High School. On May 27, 1945 Virginia married Orville W. Devereaux in Eureka, MI. Orville predeceased her on April 8, 2012.

Virginia was a homemaker and enjoyed knitting, gardening, her family was very important to her.

She is survived by 3 children: Connie and Tom Coe of Brant, MI; Dianne Devereaux of East Lansing, MI; Tim and Charmain Devereaux of New York; 7 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; 6 great great grandchildren, and her sister Betty Boog of Ithaca, MI. She was predeceased by her parents, husband, 2 sons: Gale and Mark, grandson Ian, brothers: Don, Leon, and Duane Brewbaker, and sister June.

Memorials may be made to your Local Lions Club in her memory. The family is being served by Smith Family Funeral Homes – Osgood Chapel, St. Johns, MI.


David James Pipes

David James Pipes, age 53, of Saint Johns, Michigan passed away on Wednesday December 11, 2019. David was born November 19, 1966 in Lansing. He attended school in Fowler, MI and received his GED through adult education. Davey obtained his degree in Criminal Justice from Lansing Community College in 1988. Davey enjoyed NASCAR, dirt track racing, PBR Rodeo, hunting and fishing. Most of all he loved Jesus. He taught Sunday School at Snows Lake Campground.

Davey is survived by his parents, James W. and Patricia A. Pipes of St. Johns, MI; daughters, Lauren, Ashley, Christina, and Emma; five grandchildren; sister, Marinda (Scott) Bensinger of Ovid, MI; brother, Jeffrey (Jessica) Pipes of St. Johns, MI; many nieces and nephews.

Davey’s family would like to thank Hazel I. Findlay nurses and aides on the West hall for his great care, and a special thanks to Dr. Lars Andersen, David’s lifetime doctor, for all his wonderful care.

Graveside services will be held at Mt. Rest Cemetery, St. Johns at a later date. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Michigan Chapter of the Multiple Sclerosis Society. Expressions of sympathy may be made at www.grdewitt.com.


R. Lee Ormston

R. Lee Ormston, 92, of State College, PA, went home to heaven on Tuesday, December 17, 2019 at Juniper Village, Wellspring. Lee was born January 28, 1927 in Saint Johns, MI, he was the son of Frank and Helen (nee Morrish) Ormston.

He graduated from Rodney B. Wilson High School in St. Johns, MI at age 17 and immediately took on the responsibility of the family dairy farm in Ovid Township. He eventually expanded the farm to 500 acres and 100 head of registered Guernsey and Holstein cows. His innovations in calf housing brought statewide recognition in the 60s.

He took great pleasure in serving on community boards (St. Johns Public Schools, Clinton Co. Economic Development, Ovid Township Tax Review) and organizations (both local and district Federal Land Bank, Farm Bureau, Kiwanis) and in volunteering for many groups (Sunday School Superintendent, church Song Leader and Sunday School teacher in St. Johns and Owosso Free Methodist Churches, Meals-on-Wheels). Wherever he served, his keen intellect, astute problem solving, and genuine interest in others propelled him into leadership roles.

Lee was the beloved husband for 65 years of Grace A. Ormston (nee Hazelton); dearest father of Lori O. Roberts (William) of Shaker Heights, OH and Lisa J. Bontrager (Gary) of State College, PA; loving grandfather of Russell Roberts (Rachel), Jill Martin nee Bontrager (Phil), Jana Bontrager and Evan Roberts and dear brother of Violet McAdam (deceased) (Glenn).

He loved the Lord, his family, and cars, in that order.

Visitation will be 6-7 p.m. on Friday, January 3, 2020 at Koch Funeral Home. A Memorial Service will be held there immediately following visitation, 7 p.m. Private burial will be at Duplain Township Cemetery, St. Johns, MI at a future date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Spring Arbor University, Spring Arbor, MI or Penns Woods Music Festival, State College.

Porter W. Redman

Porter W. Redman, 78 of rural St. Johns passed away on Monday, December 16, 2019 at Ingham County Medical Care in Okemos.

Porter was born on November 26, 1941, the son of Merle K. and Mary Marie (Wiley) Redman. Porter graduated from Rodney B. Wilson High School and received his business degree from Davenport College. On December 27, 1969 he married Linda V. Bangs in St. Johns. Porter worked as a die maker for 28 years at General Motors. He loved farming, 4-H and pets.

Survivors are his wife Linda, sons Christopher (Michele) Redman of Wacousta, Scott (Deborah) Redman of St. Johns, and Cary (Erin) Redman of Ohio; grandchildren, Nicholas, Emily and Ellyse Redman and twin sisters Lois Lauro of Corunna and Linda Noble of South Lyon.

The family will receive friends and relatives at Keck-Coleman Funeral Home on Friday, December 20, 2019, 4-7 P.M. Funeral services will be on Saturday, December 21, 2019 at 1:00 P.M. with Pastor Kathy Leydorf-Keck officiating. Memorials may be given to the charity of the donor’s choice.


Carol J. Schieding

Carol J. Schieding died peacefully surrounded by family and friends, Thursday, December 12, 2019 at the age of 74. She was born January 17, 1945 in Lansing, MI the daughter of Donald and Sylvia (Taylor) Irvine. Carol graduated from DeWitt High School in 1987 where she returned to earn her GED. Carol loved to help family and friends with her many talents in sewing, flower arrangements, baking and crafts of all kinds. She especially enjoyed spending time laughing with those close to her. Carol loved animals of all kinds and was also an avid Michigan Wolverine sports fan. She had several jobs during her working career most notably working for Goodrich Shop Rite, Hallmark Cards and the DeWitt Public Schools Latch Key Program.

Surviving her is her longtime companion, Robert Siegrist; one daughter, Kristina Garner; two sons, Kurt (Beth) Schieding and Jeff (Julie) Schieding; grandchildren, Travis Garner, Timmy Schieding, Emma Schieding, Joey Schieding, Shannon Abbott and Ashley (Teddy) Bodien; two great grandchildren, Sadie and Maximus Bodien; two sisters, Donna (Calvin) Cooley and Marilyn Williams; and a brother, Alan Irvine. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Gary Miller.

A memorial service will be held 12:00 PM Saturday, December 28, 2019 at Keck-Coleman Funeral Home, St. Johns with Pastor Kathy Leydorf-Keck officiating. The family will receive relatives and friends from 11:00 AM until service time at the funeral home. Gordon H. Schrader

Gordon H. Schrader died Saturday, December 14, 2019 at the age of 81. He was born July 23, 1938 in St. Johns, MI the son of Herman and Martha (Krumm) Schrader. Gordon was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church and worked as a farmer. On May 6, 1961 he married Shirley Wright and she survives him.

He is also survived by a son, David (MariLou) Schrader of St. Johns; daughter-in-law Debbie Schrader of DeWitt; three grandsons, Daniel (Jackie), Michael (Jennifer) and Holden Schrader and five great grandchildren. Gordon was preceded in death by a son, Ronald and two brothers, Lyle and Vernon.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Tuesday, December 17, 2019 at St. Peter Lutheran Church 8990 Church Rd. St. Johns with Pastor Timothy Bayer officiating. Interment will follow at St. Peter Cemetery. The family will receive relatives and friends 2-4 and 6-8 PM on Monday, December 16 atKeck-Coleman Funeral Home, St. Johns. Memorials may be made to St. Peter Lutheran Church.
