Legion Swiss Steak fundraiser dinner is March 14
On Saturday, March 14 American Legion Post 153, 110 E. Walker St. in St. Johns will hold a Swiss Steak dinner from 4:30 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. or until gone.
The menu will include: Swiss Steak with mashed potatoes/gravy, vegetable, salad, roll, dessert. Beverage not included.
Adults – 12 and over $10.00; 5-12 $5.00; under 5 free
The dinner is open to the public. You do not need to be a Legion Family member to attend the dinner.
A 50/50 raffle drawing will be held at 7:00 p.m.
Proceeds from the beverages benefit the Lounge. Proceeds from the meal benefit the
ALA 8th District Leadership Development Fund.
The next Dinner will be on Saturday, April 18, 2020 from 4:30 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.
Auditions scheduled for spring play

Homegrown Productions will be holding auditions for their spring play at the Wilson Center Auditorium on Monday, March 9 and Wednesday, March 11 at 7 p.m.
The production they have chosen will be “Leaving Iowa”, a hilarious look at the amusing adventures of family vacations.
Many parts, both large and small, are available. Whether you are a seasoned community theatre veteran or someone who would like to wade into the theatrical waters, this is a great opportunity.

You are invited to a special donor appreciation event at the Wilson Center on Tuesday, March 10, 2020, starting at 6:30 p.m.
This includes a special gourmet reception followed by a concert featuring the amazing Dave Bennett Quartet.
Office on Aging to offer caregiver workshop

Powerful Tools for Caregivers is an interactive program designed to help family caregivers take better care of themselves while caring for a family member or friend. This program will give You, the family caregiver, tools to:
– help reduce stress and guilt,
– communicate effectively, take care of yourself, and much more.
This program is not intended for professional caregivers. We meet for 2 ½ hours once per week for 6 weeks. The workshop is free of charge, but donations are accepted. Suggested donation is $25.00 for the 6-week workshop. Pre-registration is required. To register, call Tri-County Office on Aging at 517-887-1465.

Lenten Fish Fries Fridays through April 3

The annual Knights of Columbus Lenten Fish Fry will be offered beginning February 28. Subsequent dinners will be held on March 6, 13, 20, 27 and April 3.
There will be Baked and Fried Fish with all the fixings available for $12. The public is welcome from 4 p.m. – 7 p.m. Take Outs available (989) 224-1225. Columbian Hall 1108 N. US-27 in St. Johns.
Superheroes come to St. Johns April 25

The Voice for Clinton County’s Children is hosting their 7th Annual superhero 5K Run, Walk, or Fly on Saturday, April 25 at the St. Johns City Park.
All proceeds from the event support services to children who have experienced abuse and neglect.
Join them for a fun, family-friendly event for all ages and abilities.

Tail Spin Farm – Have you ever wondered where the yarn for your sweater came from? Did you know that yarn is made from more animals than just sheep? Come join Renee from Tailspin Farm and learn about fiber animals, spinning fiber into yarn and the tools used to do this. You can try it out for yourself! This program is geared toward children ages 4-8 but all are welcome to stay. The program will be taking place on Tuesday, March 10 from 6:30-7:30 p.m. Registration is required for this program and is available.
March is Reading Month Event: Tim Salisbury – What inspired him as a young man? Juggling books from our library! Join us for this amazing variety show performance on Thursday, March 12 at 6:30 p.m. Tim’s mix of juggling, balancing acts, and clean comedy will entertain you and keep you on the edge of your seats! This is a free family event and all ages are welcome. Miss Sharon will also be at the library to face paint from 5:30-6:30 p.m. Registration for this event is appreciated, and now available.
The Faygo Book – Author Joe Grimm will be at the library Wednesday, March 18 to discuss his 2019 Michigan Notable Book, The Faygo Book, and the history of this well-known Michigan product and company. Registration for this free event is appreciated, and now available.
Toddler Storytime – Children ages 2-3 (with a participating adult) are invited to join us on Thursday mornings, 10:30-11:00, or Thursday evenings, 6:30-7:00, March 19- April 23, when we will read stories, move to the music, and explore our imagination with crafts. Registration is required and is now available.
Bookaholics Book Club – The March selection for the Bookaholics Book Club is The Readers of Broken Wheel Recommend by Katarina Bivald. Sara travels from Sweden to Broken Wheel, Iowa to meet her pen pal, Amy, and ends up being taken in by the residents of the town. New members are always welcome. The club meets next on Thursday, March 19 at 6:30 p.m. in the bay window area of the library. Copies of the book are now available at the circulation desk.
Euchre Club – Our adult euchre club is continuing in 2020! We meet for a relaxed, fun, social night of cards on the fourth Friday of each month from 6:00-9:00pm. Our next meeting is Friday, March 27. Registration is now available.
Chef’s Surprise – Children ages 7-10 are welcome to join us while we explore tasty treats from different cultures on Tuesday, March 31 from 10:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. Registration is required and is open now.
Easter Egg Hunt – Children ages 2-5 accompanied by an adult are invited to join us for an Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday, April 4, 10:30-11:30 a.m. We provide an egg carton for the children to find a dozen eggs hidden somewhere in the Library. This program also includes a story, craft, and snack. Registration is required and opens on Saturday, March 7.
Chapter Chatter – Explore graphic novels with Miss Erin and learn how to create your own! This program is designed for children 6-8 years of age. Monday evenings from 6:30- 7:15 p.m. on April 6, 13, 20, 27. Required registration opens March 9.
Sip & Stitch – Bring your knitting, crochet, or other hand-stitch project to Briggs the first Tuesday of each month from 11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. This is a chance to socialize and gather inspiration with other crafters. Registration for this program is appreciated, but not required. Tea and coffee provided.
Coloring Club for Adults – Relax and get creative on Wednesday evenings from 6- 7:30 p.m. Use our coloring supplies or bring your own to this fun, independent program for ages 18+.
YMCA at Briggs Library – The Dewitt YMCA is coming to town. Come join Yeno, a certified personal trainer and fitness coach, on Wednesday afternoons for a new year of health and fun. Patrons will have the opportunity to choose from three different classes. A Balance and Stability class will be offered from 1-2. A Zumba class will be offered from 2:15- 3:15 and a Cardio Drumming class will be offered from 3:30-4:30. The cost of the classes will be $5 per session for adults and $3 for youth. Participants do have the opportunity to pay for the whole month. Registration is required for these programs. Please contact the library or the Dewitt YMCA for more details.
Tales to Tails – Ruger, a certified therapy dog will be back at the library this winter! Children ages 6-12 can sign up for a 15-minute session to practice reading aloud to Ruger on the 2nd or 4th Thursday of each month. Space is limited, and registration is required.
April Donation Drive – Help us shower our community Baby Pantry with much needed items during the entire month of April. Please bring in new, unopened unscented wipes, children’s board books, and diapers. Brand does not matter. All sizes of diapers are appreciated, but sizes 3, 4, and 5 are most helpful. Please drop items off at the front desk. Thank you!
Connections – Patrons needing help with OverDrive/Libby, RBDigital, or any of the library’s other e-services will be able to come to the library for drop-in tech help each Wednesday from 2:00-3:00 p.m.
No library card is needed to attend our programs.
