Dorothy Mae Salter

Dorothy Mae Salter, age 94, of St. Johns, MI, passed away Wednesday, June 3, 2020, at Hazel I. Findlay Country Manor, St. Johns, MI.

Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes – Osgood Chapel, St. Johns, MI, on Sunday, June 7, 2020 at 2:00 P.M., with her nephew, Pastor Darwin Lee Whitman officiating. Burial will take place at Union Home Cemetery, Clinton County, MI. Visitation will be held on Sunday, from 1:00 P.M. until the time of the service at the funeral home.

Dorothy was born in St. Johns, MI on December 21, 1925, the daughter of James M. and Emma A. (Stead) Pratt. She graduated from St. Johns High School. Dorothy married Rolla Marshal Salter on December 24, 1945 in St. Johns.

Dorothy moved to Six Lakes, MI from St. Johns in 1977, where she and her husband enjoyed fishing, playing cards, bird watching, and feeding ducks and geese. They loved visiting with their family, friends and neighbors. Her grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren brought her joy and happiness, she loved seeing them and giving them goodies. She was a past member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary Post #4113 in St. Johns.

She is survived by her daughters: Kathleen Salter, Debra Barrett; 4 grandchildren: Tina and Kurt Ziegler, Teresa Rositas, Lynsey Smith, Bean and Amy Barrett; 9 great grandchildren; 5 great great grandchildren; and sister in law Reva Vestal. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband of 58 years Rolla, daughter Dianna Lynn Salter, brothers: Kenneth, Don, Earl and Robert Pratt, sister Ruth Roof and son in law Jeff Barrett.

Memorials may be made to Hazel I. Findlay Country Manor Activities Department. The family is being served by Smith Family Funeral Homes – Osgood Chapel, St. Johns, MI.


Keith Allen Barrett

Keith Allen Barrett, age 84, of St. Johns, MI, passed away Tuesday, June 2, 2020, at Maplewood Assisted Living of Mount Pleasant, MI.

Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes – Osgood Chapel, St. Johns, MI, on Saturday, June 6, 2020 at 1:00 P.M., with Pastor Timothy Knaus officiating. Burial will take place at Mt. Rest Cemetery, St. Johns, MI. Visitation will be held on Friday, June 5, 2020 from 5-8 P.M and also on Saturday from 11:00 A.M. until the time of the service at the funeral home.

Keith was born in St. Johns, MI on December 25, 1935, the son of Charles J. and Grace (Purvis) Barrett. He graduated from Rodney B. Wilson High School. On June 3, 1961 Keith married Nancy A. Osborn in St. Johns. Nancy passed away on December 28, 2013.

Keith owned and operated Barrett Door Service. He enjoyed golfing, caring for his home, and he loved having coffee with his friends. Keith and Nancy enjoyed time spent together at their cottage in Lake City. He was an active member of the St. Johns First Baptist Church.

He is survived by his children: Brian and Karen Barrett, Susan and John Trudeau, Craig and Karyn Barrett; grandchildren: Allison, Kyle, Jami, and Nikolas Barrett; Marcie, Brandon, Brittnie, and Monica Barrett; Alexis and Eddie Trudeau; Ethan and Kaleigh Barrett. He is also survived by brothers in law: Richard (Tish) Osborn of Minnesota and Fr. Douglas Osborn of DeWitt, MI, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Nancy, son Kevin, and twin sister Karol (Bill) Richards.

Patricia A. Moore

Patricia A. Moore died Monday, June 1, 2020 at the age of 82. She was born March 2, 1938 in St. Johns the daughter of George and Anne (George) Snater. Pat was a graduate of Rodney B. Wilson High School in St. Johns, Class of 1955. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in St. Johns. Pat loved doing anything that involved her beloved husband, children and grandchildren, especially spending time together at Lake Victoria. She absolutely loved having sleepovers with her granddaughters and making her famous pancakes.

She was an enthusiastic MSU fan, enjoyed her yearly trips to Arizona and loved coffee dates with her friends, classmates and “The Gang”. Pat worked as a secretary for the St. Johns Public Schools for over 17 years retiring in 2000. On June 29, 1955 she married Edward “Bud” Moore and he preceded her in death in May of 2008.

Surviving are two daughters, Jennifer (Brian) Metzmaker and Jill (Jeff) Anger; two sons, Michael (Kelly) Moore and Timothy (Abbey) Moore; grandchildren, Alan, Kira, Paige, Josh (Marta), Bo (Chelsea), Scott and Jaye Moore, Samantha and Alexandra Anger, Danielle Schmidtman (Dylan), Madalyn, Ellie, Korey, Cody and Jessy Metzmaker. She was also predeceased by three brothers, Chap, Harold and Arthur and one sister, Dolores.

A graveside funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, June 5, 2020 at Mt. Rest Cemetery, St. Johns with Pastor Kathy Leydorf-Keck officiating. Those in attendance are asked to practice social distancing and to use a face covering. Memorials may be made to Children’s Miracle Network through the Sparrow Foundation. The family was assisted with these arrangements by Keck-Coleman Funeral Home, St. Johns.


Jane Ellen Seyler-Mills

Jane Ellen Seyler-Mills, of St. Johns, went to be with our Lord Wednesday, May 27, 2020 at the age of 79. Born on November 14, 1940 the daughter of John W. Beedy and Medora E. McManus, she has worked as a commissioned artist/painter, property manager, exterminator but retired from Kroger in St. Johns after working there many years.

Jane loved her family, was known for her gourmet cooking, baking, sense of humor, love of dogs and being in nature. In the most resent years she found peace listening to Joyce Meyers and Joseph Prince.

Keeping her memory alive are her loving husband Ben Mills, sisters; Susie Giller, Mary Jo Kincaid children; Tim (Debbie) Horan, Kelly Jo Horan, Rhonda (Scott) Pease, Kirk (Jackie) Mills, Allen (Celina) Mills, Amy (Joe) Ellis, 15 grandchildren 11 great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, father in-law and brother Jon.

A memorial celebration of her life will be determined at a later date.

Cremation arrangements were entrusted to Christiansen’s Michigan Cremation & Funeral Care, Greenville.


Sally J. Ralph

Sally J. Ralph died Wednesday, May 27, 2020 at the age of 77. She was born September 25, 1942 in Alma, MI the daughter of Howard and Hazel (Green) Watkins. On February 16, 1985 she married Joseph F. Ralph Jr. and he preceded her in death in 2009. Sally worked for Sparrow Clinton Hospital for over 30 years as a ward secretary.

Surviving are two daughters, Julie Watkins (Greg Bloomfield) of Laingsburg and Jeanne (Steve) Blankenship of Temperance, MI; one son Joseph V. Ralph of Grand Rapids; six grandchildren, Rich (Katie) Gregory and Emberly (Skylar) Drews, Gabriel Ralph, Andrea (Steve) Proper, Mark (Amanda) Blankenship, Erica Blankenship; seven great grandchildren, Allyana, Mia Grace and Larson Drews, Millee and Dylan Gregory, Austin and Adelynn Proper and one sister, Sharon Morgan. She was predeceased by two sisters, Nancy and Hazel and three brothers, Jim, Bill and Howard.

Following Sally’s wishes cremation has taken place and the family will have a Celebration of Life Service at Knob Hill Tavern at a later date once restrictions on gathering size have been increased. The family was assisted with these arrangements by Keck-Coleman Funeral Home, St. Johns.
