John Arthur Romig

John Arthur “Art” Romig passed away Monday, July 13, 2020 at the age of 96. He was born May 19, 1924 in Ubly, MI the son of John and Pearl (Blanchard) Romig. Art graduated from Ubly High School in 1942 and served his country in the US Marine Corp during WWII. His overseas duty took him to Tarawa, Saipan and Okinawa and his military service included being a Chaplains Assistant. He was a member of the American Legion Post # 225.

On June 10, 1950 he married Donna Christmas at First Baptist Church of Pontiac, MI and together they loved and nurtured five children, Charles, Cheryl, Marilyn, Brian and Shelly. Art’s job as a CO-OP manager took he and his family to several locations such as, Leslie, St. Johns and Buchanan. At each of these locations Art and Donna were active members of several churches such as First Baptist Church and Bethany Baptist Church of Grand Blanc, MI; Rives Baptist Church of Rives Junction, MI; First Baptist Church of St. Johns, MI; Calvary Baptist Church of South Bend, IN; First Baptist Church of Higgins Lake, MI; Maranatha Baptist Church in Sebring, FL. Art served his Lord in every church he attended as a teacher, deacon, youth worker, building committee and choir member.

Surviving are three daughters, Cheryl (Tom) Garlock, Marilyn (Roy) Elliott and Shelly (Tom) Sturgeon; one son, Brian (Shelly) Romig; daughter-in-law, Judy Romig; twelve grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren and one sister, Pauline Hulbert. Donna preceded Art in death in 2015. He was also predeceased by his son, Charles, a sister, Roberta, two half sisters and a half brother.

A funeral service for Art will be held 1:00 PM on Friday, July 17, 2020 at Keck-Coleman Funeral Home, St. Johns with his son, Brian Romig officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Rest Cemetery with military honors provided by the St. Johns Honor Guard. The family will receive relatives and friends from 12:00 PM until service time on Friday at the funeral home. Clement Herman Feldpausch

Clement Herman Feldpausch, age 80, of Fowler, MI, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 11, 2020, at Hazel I. Findlay Country Manor, St. Johns, MI.

In following Clement’s wishes, a cremation has taken place and a private graveside service will be held at Most Holy Trinity Cemetery, Fowler, MI.

Clement was born in Fowler, Michigan on November 23, 1939, the son of Raymond L. and Armella (Pohl) Feldpausch. He graduated from Fowler High School. Clement proudly served his country in the United States Army National Guard. He was a member of Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church.

Clement worked for Federal Mogul for 30 years. He was a lifelong farmer and bee keeper. Clement was an outdoorsman who loved hunting, fishing, and trapping. He enjoyed coaching 4H softball and supporting his children and grandchildren in their sporting events. Clement taught his family the importance of hard work.

Clement is survived by his son Andrew (Darlene) Feldpausch of Kenosha, WI, daughter Vicky (Scott) Milner of Fowler, MI, daughter-in-law Evangeline Feldpausch of St. Johns, MI, 11 grandchildren: Caitlyn Feldpausch, Mikayla (Trevor) Birchmeier, Zachary (Jenae) Birchmeier, Andrew Birchmeier, Tyler (Keri) Milner, Travis (Jayme) Milner, Tanner Milner, Kyle Feldpausch, Stephanie (Alden) Kirvan, Wesley (Ashley) Robbe, and Valerie (Jerrod) Sattler; and 16 great-grandchildren: Emma, Hannah, Trey, Travis Jr, Trinadee, Tava, Ryen, Kaci, AJ, Braylen, Ayla, Beau, Bradlee, Chase, Lola, and Denver Curtis. He is also survived by 7 siblings: Therese Kramer, Leon Feldpausch, Francis Feldpausch, Raymond (Doris) Feldpausch, Casper (Therese) Feldpausch, Mary Ann (Anthony) Thelen, and Max Feldpausch; sister-in-law Adeline Feldpausch and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, son Curtis Feldpausch, grandson Ean Feldpausch, brother Bernard Feldpausch, sister Agatha Epkey, and sisters-in-law: Therese Feldpausch, Louise Feldpausch, and brother-in-law Alan Kramer.

The family will would like to thank the staff at Hazel Findlay for the excellent care and compassion shown to their father. The family requests that memorials may be made to Hazel Findlay Nursing Home (1101 Scott Road, St. Johns, Michigan 48879.) The family is being served by Smith Family Funeral Homes – Goerge Chapel, Fowler, Michigan.


James R. Smalley

James R. “Jimmy” Smalley died unexpectedly Thursday, July 9, 2020 at the age of 72. He was born January 21, 1948 in St. Johns, MI the son of Van and Vera (Smith) Smalley. Jim was a graduate of Rodney B. Wilson High School in St. Johns, Class of 1966. He is a proud Army veteran serving during the Vietnam War and a member of American Legion Post #153 and the VFW Post # 4113. Jim enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, traveling or spending time with family and friends. He was an avid auto racing fan and a former race car owner. On August 31, 1991 he married Laureen “Lori” Douglass and she preceded him in death in January of 2019.

Surviving is a son, Chris (Michelle) Smalley; a grandson, Avery Smalley; mother-in-law, Carol Atkinson; brothers and sisters-in-law, Bruce (Toni) Douglass, Julie Wagar, Renee (Jeff) Conant, Mervin Douglass and Brian (Cheryl) Douglass and several beloved nieces and nephews, Natalie Douglass, Patrick Douglass, Heather (Andrew) Christmann, and Ashley Douglass. He was predeceased by his parents, a brother Steve and father-in-law Douglas Atkinson.

Following Jim’s wishes cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life Gathering will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, the ASPCA, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, or Kyomi’s Gift Fund at www.barrycf.org/funds/kyomis-gift-fund.
