Judy Carlene Maniez

Judy Carlene Maniez, age 75, of St. Johns passed away Saturday, August 29, 2020 at her home with family by her side. She was born February 9, 1945 in Garden City, Michigan the daughter of Fred and Dorothy “June” (Gladson) Henson. On May 18, 1963 she married David N. Maniez, a blessed union of 57 years. She remodeled several of their homes, until they were able to save enough money to build their forever home in St. Johns.

Judy spent her life caring for her beloved family, first her siblings, then her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed camping, trips to the casino, ice cream, watching Wheel of Fortune and the Price is Right. She also enjoyed going to garage sales, cleaning her house, woodworking, tending to her flower gardens and yard work.

Judy is survived by her husband, David Maniez, Sr; three children, Evangeline Feldpausch, David (Janelle) Maniez, Carla (Joel) Gillespie; eight grandchildren; one step-grandson; seven great-grandchildren; siblings, Gary (Cy) Henson, Connie (Ron) Weishaar, Kimberly (Paul) Lipke; her mother-in-law, Winifred Maniez; and her step-father, James Benaway. She was preceded in death by her parents, son-in-law, Curtis Feldpausch, sister, Valerie Henson and father-in-law, Fernand Maniez.

Cremation has taken place with a Memorial Celebration to be held at the family’s home at a later date. She will be laid to rest at the “Family Memorial Gardens” on the Maniez family land. Those desiring, may make memorial donations to Lowe United Methodist Church.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Dodge Funeral Home, Middleton.


Nancy Moore

Nancy Moore, age 81, of St. Johns passed away on August 29, 2020 surrounded by her family after a courageous battle with Parkinson’s Disease. She was born March 2, 1939 in Ypsilanti, Michigan to Lorne and Juanita (Stautz) Morningstar. She graduated from Rodney B. Wilson High School in 1957. Nancy worked at The Wheel Inn as both a waitress and a cook.

She was passionate about serving others and a tireless volunteer. She was on the Sparrow Clinton Hospital Auxiliary for over 20 years and in 2009 was voted Auxilian of the year by her peers. She also worked in the Hospital Gift Shop for all of those years.

She is urvived by her eight children: Lori (Gary) Kunkle, Patrick (Chery) Goff, Craig (Lynn) Goff, Kathie (Brook) Clock, Lawrence (Melodee) Goff, Debra (Eric) Helm, Angela Ladisky, and Catherine (Jeremy) Jager; 14 Grandchildren: Samantha Kunkle, Brianna Goff, Ron Rizzo, Holly (Nathan) Cooley, Bailey Clock, Alex and Addison Goff, Cyrus, Noah, Chloe and Tess Helm, Hope and Joy Ladisky, and Dylan Jager; three Great Grandchildren: Madison, Wyatt and Reagan; sisters Denise Stark, Patti (Doug) Lehman, Linda (Rich) McLaren and brother Joseph (Sue) O’Leary; sisters-in-law Martha Moore and Mary Moore; brother-in-law Roger (Alice) Moore and very special friend Bonnie Wilson. She was preceded in death by her husband Wayne, brother Craig Morningstar, brothers-in-law Bob Moore and Larry Moore and sister-in-law Patricia Zimmerman.

A big thank you to the staff at Grace Haven for the loving care they gave to mom, especially, Emberleigh, Jamie, Michelle, BreAnna, Mike, Lindsey, Katreva, Sara, Zack and Michael. Also a big thank you to the staff at The Willows at East Lansing, especially Cindy, Jenni, Lynnette, Jamie, Jordan, Rachael, Danielle, Carma, Dawn, Missy, Shameka, Stephanie, Jean, and Alex. Also, a big thank you to The Care Team, especially Angela RN, Chaplain Robbie, Michael, and Brooke. You are all so wonderful and a credit to your chosen field! Thank You.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, September 1, 2020 at Keck-Coleman Funeral Home, 1500 Waterford Parkway, St. Johns, with Pastor Kathy Leydorf-Keck officiating with burial to follow at Mt. Rest Cemetery. The family will receive relatives and friends at the funeral home from 2:00-4:00 and 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Monday, August 31, 2020. In Our Mom’s Honor, Please dress casual and wear bright colors to the visitation as well as to the funeral service.


Roy Sylvester Harger

Roy Sylvester Harger, age 89, of St. Johns, MI, passed away Thursday, August 27, 2020, at Sparrow Health Systems, Lansing, MI.

Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes – Osgood Chapel, St. Johns, MI, on Monday, August 31, 2020 at 11:00 A.M., with Pastor Kathy Leydorf-Keck officiating. Burial will take place at Eureka Cemetery, Eureka, MI. Visitation will be held on Sunday, August 30, 2020 from 2-8 P.M. with family present from 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. at the funeral home.

Roy was born in Clinton County, MI, on November 11, 1930, the son of Frank Sylvester and Maybelle (Taylor) Harger. He graduated from Maple Rapids High School with the class of 1949. On June 14, 1951 he married DeLoris Jean Wilber in Ovid, MI.

Roy retired from the Clinton County Road Commission in 1991. He farmed his father’s land for several years and raised cows, pigs and horses. He took many trips with his horses across the state. Roy and his daughter Mona enjoyed woodworking together and they traveled to many craft shows to sell their projects. Roy enjoyed camping trips with his family to Ludington. He coached his sons little league teams for many years. He volunteered with God’s Outreach Mission in Maple Rapids, taking many trips to Detroit, Flint and West Virginia delivering food and clothing to people in need.

He was a proud member of the Ithaca VFW and Independent Order of Odd Fellows. Roy was a member of the Maple Rapids United Methodist Church. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War.

He is survived by his wife of 69 years DeLoris Harger of St. Johns, MI, children: Mona and Marlin Kindel of Maple Rapids, MI, David and Nancy Harger of Ithaca, MI, Keith Harger of St. Johns, MI, Trina and Richard Fitzsimmons of Ottawa, Canada, 6 grandchildren, and 13 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, grandson Chad Harger, brother Edwin (Betty) Harger, sister Imogene (Oliver “Bud”) Beck, brother Vernon (Beverly) Harger, nephews: Donald (Debbie) Beck, Ronnie (Bonnie) Harger, Dale Harger, Pat Wilcox.

Memorials may be made to Maple Rapids United Methodist Church. The family is being served by Smith Family Funeral Homes – Osgood Chapel, St. Johns, MI.
