Latest County Covid stats

You might feel healthy, but the reality is this: about 40% of people who have COVID-19 may be asymptomatic. That means almost one out of every two people could be infected. They might not know it until it’s too late. We can only contain the virus and keep Michigan open if everyone stays careful and masks up when they leave home, whether they feel sick or not. Face coverings can reduce the chance of spreading COVID-19 by about 70%. So Mask Up Michigan!

579 cases and 13 deaths, Probable Cases Clinton County: 82 [as of September 24]

Toys for Tots now collecting online

The Voice for Clinton County’s Children will be Clinton County’s new Toys for Tots Coordinator.

They will be working with the Clinton County Chamber of Commerce to transition information. They are also in regular communication with the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation and other coordinators because everyone is making significant changes this year.

We all know that this year will look different. They also know that together we will make sure the holidays remain bright for Clinton County children and youth.

Toy collections will be done online. They understand that many former collection box hosts have changed environments. The new coordinators want to be responsible with the tasks to which their volunteers give their time. They also want to support the health and safety of our community.

The online donation option will ask you to ship items directly to the office, also known as Santa’s Workshop for the holiday season. Online options include gift cards to assist them with fulfilling wish lists to be best of their abilities.

Along with the online donation option, they will offer families an online option to submit requests for holiday assistance. They will schedule pick up times for families to pick up their holiday support.

After Labor Day they will begin promoting the Holiday Wish Lists. This may feel a little early, but they want to give donors time to order and ship things. They know there can be shipping delays.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact KellySchaferED@gmail.com or phone/text at (989) 640-5681.

HDSA go host virtual walk October 18

The Huntington’s Disease Society of America’s (HDSA) Great Lakes Region is hosting the Southwest Michigan Virtual Team Hope Walk on Sunday, October 18. A virtual walk is a real walk, but on your terms: You get to choose your own course. You can walk in your driveway, local park, neighborhood, in your house and even on treadmill.

Team Hope is HDSA’s largest national grassroots fundraising event. Thousands of families, friends, co-workers, neighbors and communities walk together each year to support HDSA’s fight to improve the lives of people affected by Huntington’s Disease (HD) and their families. HD is a fatal genetic disease that affects the nerve cells in the brain.

Briggs Library is excited to offer a new service to its patrons. Request a Grab & Go Book Bag filled with 5 titles selected by library staff. Just let us know the age of the child that the books are geared for, and any genre or topic preference. For example, does your toddler like trains? Or does your tween want to read a mystery? Let us know what they like and we will create a custom bag for them. The books will be checked out on your account or your child’s and must be returned at the end of the loan period. Staff will contact you when your bags are ready by either phone or email, whatever your preference. Items can be picked up by curbside or by coming into the library during our temporary hours. Requests can be made through our website by filling out a Google request form. Any questions on this program, please call the library or email, Erin Faivor at efaivor@briggsdistrictlibrary.org.
