This past Saturday, camera in hand and the Mustang up and running, I headed to Alma for the Highland Festival. I was there as a volunteer and transporter for “Help Furry Friends.” Having to be there early for the parade line-up, I had plenty of time to wander around and talk to a lot of people.
I met up with the Artillery Division, kilts and all.
This was my first time meeting the guys in skirts, and all were very nice and loved to talk about the jobs they do for the Company. They spoke about how they would shoot the cannon off during the parade and that I would probably hear them. I met an Artillery family dressed for that period and have included a picture of them in the album.
With still plenty of time to spare, I headed in another direction. It’s not a parade if there aren’t any clowns; soI headed in their direction for a nice chat. I couldn’t help wondering, how do you keep that make-up on in this heat?
About that time I heard a familiar sound, the Alma High School and Junior High Band warming up. Being an OLD Band Member, this was of interest to me. I snapped a couple of pictures and was impressed that they wore their full uniform – black at that. I remember those days!
By that time I spotted a convertible from McDonalds, so thought I could at least get a cold drink. I asked the girls if they had any Ice Tea on them. I got some laughs and a chorus of no. Didn’t hurt to try.
Next, I visited the pets from a shelter that were in the parade. Now I felt at home, and it was such fun being greeted by wagging tails and sloppy kisses. Hope some of them found new homes.
Now came the real McCoy. I heard the Bagpipes start, so I went that way to meet some of the guys in the Bagpipe Band. This was my first time for a close up with that type of band, and I was impressed at how easy it looked. They were a right jolly group and told of different places they had performed.
St Johns was represented by Miss Mint and her Court. It was nice to see their presence representing us in other parades. Way to go Girls.
I hope you enjoy the pictures as all of a sudden they were calling my name to start the car. I didn’t want to miss the parade.
