On Sunday, July 18, the Frank Tomasek family gathers in Bannister, MI to celebrate 100 years in Central Michigan. Frank and Anna Tomasek arrived at Ellis Island, USA on July 19, 1910. Their first stop was in Cleveland, Ohio and then on to Shepardsville and Bannister, MI. where Frank farmed.
They had twelve children. There is one daughter, Mildred Tomasek Bradac, still living as well as the spouses of August, John, Joseph, Steve and Edward Tomasek. There are 36 grandchildren, nearly 90 great grandchildren and nearly 70 great, great grandchildren.
Until Frank died in 1951 and Anna died in 1990, they had attended the St. Cyril church in Bannister; and the reunion is scheduled at the church.
Anna lived to be 102 and saw the first baby of the fifth generation. There will be approximately 200 family members attending. Some of the family will attend the 9:30 a.m. Mass and will be joined by the rest to celebrate at the church hall with a 12:30 p.m. potluck dinner.
A special 100th year logo has been designed by Tom Tomasek and Rita Tomasek and will be distributed as a Christmas ornament. Each member of the family will receive one at the reunion.
Those unable to attend, will receive one through the mail. In addition T-Shirts, coasters, and pens all with the logo will be available at the reunion. Young children will participate in a variety of games and enjoy the church’s playground. A group from the reunion will attend a Detroit Tigers game in August.
