Dorothy M. Harrington
Dorothy M. Harrington, age 88, of Ovid, died Monday, June 28, 2010. She was born December 14, 1921, in New Haven Twp., the daughter of Fred and Sue (Siple) Guild. Dorothy was a member of the First Church of God, the Red Hat Society and volunteered with Meals on Wheels. She married Lester Harrington in Oklahoma and he preceded her in death on May 31, 1981.
Surviving are her children, Lester (Beth) Harrington, Jr., of Anderson, IN, Ruth (Eugene) Woodruff of Owosso, Pat Harrington of Ovid, and Ray (Sandi) Harrington of Corunna, brothers, Bob (Nina) Guild, Fred (Francis) Guild, sister, Mug Fisher, 11 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren and 16 great great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews. Also preceding her in death are one grandson, Wayne Woodruff, two daughters in law, Tammie Harrington and Sandy Harrington, three brothers, Don, Ken and Ted Guild.
Funeral Services will be held 2:30 p.m., Thursday, July 1, 2010, at the Houghton Chapel of Osgood Funeral Homes in Ovid with the Rev. John Miller officiating. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:30 – 2:30 p.m., Thursday at the funeral home. Contributions may be made in Dorothy’s memory to the First Church of God.

Anne L. Thurlow
Anne L. Thurlow died Sunday, June 27, 2010 at the age of 78. She was born January 9, 1932 in Remington, VA the daughter of Adelbert and Sadie (Claxton) Linthicum. She attended First Baptist Church in St. Johns, worked for the State of Michigan and was a homemaker. On September 26, 1953 she married Gayle Thurlow and he survives her.
Also surviving are two daughters, Kathy Lowell of DeWitt and Jeanne Beachnaw of Lowell; one son James (Teresa) Thurlow of St. Johns; nine grandchildren and 4great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a grandson Luke Beachnaw.
Funeral services will be held 11:00AM Tuesday, June 29, 2010 at First Baptist Church in St. Johns with Pastor Tim Knaus officiating. Interment will follow at South Bingham Cemetery. The family will receive relatives and friends 2-4 and 6-8PM Monday at Keck-Coleman Funeral Home, St. Johns and one hour prior the funeral at the church. John W. Schumaker
John W. Schumaker died Saturday, June 26, 2010 at the age of 91. He was born June 25, 1919 in Riley Township, Clinton County Michigan the son of John and Frieda (Tiedt) Schumaker. He was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church and a farmer. He enjoyed playing cards, bowling and having coffee with friends at various coffee shops in St. Johns. John was a talented dowser (well witcher) and witched wells all over Clinton County. On December 10, 1939 he married Rachel Warner and she survives him.
Also surviving are two sons, John R. (Betty) and James (Kelly) all of St. Johns; six grandchildren, Suzanne (Richard) Williams of St. Johns, Beth (Steve) Larson of Alaska , John A. (Anita) Schumaker of Canton, MI, Jason (Angela) Schumaker of Appleton, WI, Jessica and Jenna Schumaker of St. Johns; eight great grand children and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister Doris Martens.
Funeral services will be held 2:00PM Wednesday, June 30, 2010 at St. Peter Lutheran Church 8990 Church Rd. St. Johns with Pastor Jeffrey Heimsoth officiating. Interment will follow in St. Peter Cemetery. The family will receive relatives and friends 2-4 and 6-8PM Tuesday at Keck-Coleman Funeral Home, St. Johns. Memorials may be made to St. Peter Lutheran Church.


Irene E. Mead
Irene E. Mead died Friday, June 25, 2010 at the age of 85. She was born February 10, 1925 in Gillmore, Kentucky the daughter of Cortez and Stella (Shackelford) Ely. Irene was a store manager first for KFC and later for Famous Recipe Chicken in Lansing, retiring in 1985. On February 17, 1946 she married Virgil Mead and he survives her.
Also surviving is one daughter, Sandra (David) Barnhill of Lansing; three sons, Richard (Elaine) of Chino, CA, James (Diana) of Grand Rapids and Stephen (Sheila) of DeWitt; twelve grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by five brothers and five sisters.
Funeral services will be held 11:00AM Wednesday, June 30, 2010 at Keck-Coleman Funeral Home, St. Johns. Interment will follow at South Bingham Cemetery. The family will receive relatives and friends 6:00 to 8:00PM Tuesday and one hour prior the funeral on Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association 3940 Broadmore Ave. S.E. Suite 100 Grand Rapids, MI 49512 or Alzheimer’s Association 310 N. Main St. Suite 100 Chelsea, MI 48118.


Rodney R. Love

Rodney R. Love, 54 of Ovid died Saturday, June 26, 2010 at Ovid Healthcare Center. Rod was born on April 5, 1956 in St. Johns, MI the son of Elwin and Elsie (Tillapaw) Love. He graduated from Ovid-Elsie High School in 1974, had worked for the Owosso Argus as a rural delivery person, and the U.S. Postal Service and State of Michigan. Rod was a Detroit Tigers and Pistons fan, as well as the MSU Spartans, loved to play softball. He attended First Baptist Church.
He is survived by his mother, Elsie Bowerman of Ovid; brothers Larry (Marilyn) Love of Ovid, MI, Dennis (Sharry) Love of Whitehall, MI and Gordon (Judy) Love of Okemos and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father Elwin in 1970.
Funeral services will be held at Keck-Coleman Funeral Home on Tuesday, June 29, 2010 at 1:00 P.M. with Pastor Tim Dickenson officiating. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends and relatives at the funeral home on Tuesday, 11:00 A.M. until service time. Memorial donations may be made to Ovid First Baptist Church.


Doyle Bancroft
Doyle Bancroft, died June 24, 2010, at the age of 84. He was born on August 29, 1925, in Clinton County, the son of Walter and Iva (Cox) Bancroft. Doyle attended the 1st Congregational Church, and participated in the Civil War Re-enactment 24th MI Infantry, was a WWII Veteran of the US Navy, and retired as a custodian from Rodney B. Wilson, he also had worked at the Standard gas station in St. Johns. He married Hilda Anderson on September 17, 1955, and she survives him.
Also surviving are their daughters, Cheryl (Duane) Haviland, Brenda (Kevin) Griggs, grandchildren, Douglas (Renae) Haviland, Rebekah (Ryan) Gilroy, Joel (Esther) Haviland and Rachel (Jimmie) Harps, great grandchildren, Dillan, Miah, Josiah, Clara, Benjamin, Bridger, Jazmine and Tori, sisters, Joyce (David) Swanson, Carol (Merle) Baese, and brother, Norman Bancroft. Preceding him in death are his parents and brother, Dale Bancroft.
Funeral Services will be 10:30 a.m., Monday, June 28, 2010, at Osgood Funeral Home, with Pastor Ryan Gilroy officiating, burial at Lowe Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home, Saturday evening 6-8 p.m., and Sunday afternoon, 2-4 p.m. Contributions may be made in memory of Doyle to the family and they will choose a charity of their choice.
