Auxiliary hosts successful Chicks for Charity Golf Outing

image.jpgWith a good slate of golfers and a list of sponsors as long as the course, Sparrow Clinton Auxiliary seemed to be the victor of the recent “Chicks for Charity” all women golf outing.  While three teams tied for top honors, members of the hospital Auxiliary were the day’s acknowledged winners, walking off the course with a bank deposit bag crammed with cash and a promise for strengthening their treasury in support of the hospital.

The top teams scrambled for a total of 70 strokes and the final standings were determined by the group that scored best on the Emerald’s par three holes.  The final standings found Mohre Soft Water in first place, Fifth Third in second followed by the team from Ovid Weekly.  The Barber’s Floors and More group was next in line with a 72.

Kathie Clock, Auxiliary co-president, summed up the day by expressing appreciation for the weather, the players, the sponsors and staff at the Emerald.  “It would be difficult to expect a nicer golfing day,” commented Ms Clock, “and that matched with our tenacious “chicks”, generous sponsors and cooperative Emerald staff, made for another wonderful event.  I can only think of one other thing that might have added excitement, that being a hole in one that would have given the player $5,000.”  That prize was sponsored by Allaby and Brewbaker Insurance Agency.

Off the course, a number of other gifts and surprises added to the day.  Among them was a visor provided to each player contributed by a former St. Johns resident from Colorado, John Bond, and a host of prizes by raffle, a staple golf outing feature.  One half a 50/50 raffle went to another former St. Johns resident Sally Hayne, one of the members of the Durner sisters team.  Firstbank hosted a continental breakfast and McKenzie Crosby Insurance Agency sponsored and end of day buffet.  In between, Agro-Culture Liquid Fertilizer and a Wal-Mart employee grant teamed up to offer lunch at the turn.  And, the 26 hole sponsors were identified on signs prepared and donated by Bruce Delong of Michigan Graphics and Signs.

The hole signs, planted at tee locations around the course recognized the following contributors:  Avery Vision Center, Golden EFX Salon, Ovid-Elsie Animal Clinic, Bee’s Sports, Fifth-Third Bank, Sirrine & Assoc. Inc., Big Boy Restaurant, Wooden Nickel, Country Store, R&H Auto Sales, RSI Home Improvement, Allaby & Brewbaker Insurance Agency, Keck-Coleman Funeral Home, Philip & Julie Schrantz, St. Johns Mini-Storage, Don & Drucilla Rademacher, The Masters Auto Wash and Quick Lube, RSI/Wayne Door, Dr. Bob Janson, Uncle John’s Cider Mill, Uncle John’s Fruit Winery, Detloff Financial Planning, B&B Financial Services, Clinton County Medical Center and the Hitching Post Restaurant.

“There certainly are countless ‘thank yous’ needed for many supporters and we are deeply appreciative,” said Ms Clock.  “The generosity shown to us (the Auxiliary) is truly indicative of the generous spirit that prevails in our community.  To each sponsor, donor contributor and player we offer sincere gratitude along with assurance that the hospital and patient care is embraced by everyone’s participation.”
