Maralyn's Pet Corner

There are millions of pet lovers in the United States, yet sadly we are forced to kill millions of dogs and cats each year because of pet overpopulation. Of the estimated ten million animals brought to shelters each year, approximately half will not find new homes and families. The uncontrolled breeding of cats ad dogs has produced more animals than there are loving homes.
You can help end this tragedy with one small, but significant action-prevent a litter by having your companion animal spayed or neutered. The surgery is routine, has health benefits for the animals, and should be done regardless of the sex of the animal. Sterilized pets generally lead a longer and healthier life. Spaying female animals greatly reduces the incident of breast cancer and eliminates the possibility of uterine and ovarian cancer. Neutering a male animal eliminates the possibility of testicular cancer and reduces the risk of prostate cancer. Neutering also will make your pet more affectionate and less likely to roam, get in fights, or become lost.
Something new has started to surface for this type of Surgery.. It is called Spay Neuter Express. This is a mobile RV type vehicle that travels to different locations offering many services. They offer high quality, low cost veterinary services for all pets. The doctors and staff specialize in spay and neuter surgeries, so you can rest assured that your pet is getting excellent care. Visit their web site at www.spayneuterexpress.com
In Alma, they will be there on July 19 and August 16 at Redbird Pet Food Center 2324 W. Monroe Rd (M-46) Alma. They also offer testing, vaccinations, etc. Call 989-331-2479 to make an appointment.
Also, please keep your pet hydrated, always have water, always have shade in the extreme temperatures we have been having. Never leave you dog in a car nor chained up in the yard without adequate shade and water. It does not take long for a pet to have heat exhaustion or heat stroke. We are their guardians!
Thank You

I looked at all the caged animals in the shelter, the cast-offs of human society. I saw in their eyes love and hope, fear and dread, sadness, and betrayal. And I was angry. “God’, I said, “this is terrible! Why don’t You do something?” God was silent a moment, and then spoke softly, “I have done something,” was the reply. “I created you.”
