Mt. Rest Ceremony
by Barry Bauer

Originally called Decoration Day, this could conceivably be a Memorial Day celebration at Mt. Rest Cemetery in St. Johns sometime in the 1930s.
The gentleman in front is standing next to the Civil War monument dated 1861 to 1865.
The writing on the monument:
“ERECTED BY THE SOLDIERS AND SAILORS ASSOCIATION AND THE CITIZENS OF CLINTON COUNTY UNDER THE AUSPICES OF C. E. GRISSON POST 156 G. A. R. (Grand Army of the Republic) AND GRISSON W. R. C. (Women’s Relief Corp) NO. 20 IN HONOR OF THE UNION VOLUNTEERS”

The same scene today.
