Fun for all Oct. 7-9 at Pumpkin Fest 2010

There’s a new home this year for the St. Johns Lions Club Decorated Pumpkin Contest – and a new name, too.
Andy T’s Pumpkin Fest 2010 that takes place Oct. 7-9 offers the same great family fun that area residents have enjoyed for years courtesy of the Lions and Lionesses and the vision that club members Kathy and George Campbell had for an autumn community event.
The new location at Andy T’s Farm Market is a perfect spot for the fall gathering of friends and all those decorated pumpkins.
“There’s plenty of space here for the pumpkins and for expanded activities that are planned for this year,” Kathy says about Andy T’s location just south of St. Johns on BR-127. “Plus, we’ll have the additional help from Andy T’s staff in accommodating all our Pumpkin Fest guests.”
The decorated pumpkin contest has always drawn lots of admirers, from its beginnings on the lawn of the old Clinton County Courthouse, to the Grand Trunk Depot site in downtown, and its most recent home at the St. Johns City Park. Club members have been looking for a partner to help with the event for several years, and found one in Andy T’s.
“It was becoming more and more challenging for us to host the event, even with all the wonderful volunteers who have helped over the years,” says long-time Lions member, Curt Keck. “Having Andy and Sunday offer their business site is great.”

Lions Club members Curt Keck and Kathy and George Campbell help Sunday Todosciuk prepare for Pumpkin Fest 2010 at its new location, Andy T’s Farm Market.
The Todosciuk’s are pleased, too.
“This is a perfect marriage – we have the facility and are set up already for fall family activities, and the Lions pumpkin contest fits in really well with that,” Sunday says about the variety of regular autumn activities the business offers in addition to the special events planned for the Pumpkin Fest.
The fun begins Thursday, Oct. 7 when all the decorated pumpkins begin arriving; check in is from 4 to 9 p.m. The pumpkins will be on display all day Friday, Oct. 8, during a special Pumpkin Fest Seniors Day where seniors aged 55 and older receive cider and donuts and wagon rides for just $3.
Pumpkin Fest Kids Day is Saturday, Oct. 9, from noon to 5 p.m. The fun includes story time with puppets, McGruff the Crime Dog, pumpkin carnival games and face painting, along with Andy T’s corn maze, blow up maze and hayrides to the pumpkin patch.
The Lions Club food wagon will be on site selling its great food, as will Shaggies Ice Cream. Andy T’s cider and donuts, home-made baked goods and hand-dipped caramel apples will also be available for purchase.
Prizes and participation certificates for the Decorated Pumpkin Contest will be awarded at 4 p.m., courtesy of St. Johns Big Boy Restaurant.
“We’re excited about the additional opportunities for families to do things together that the location provides here at Andy T’s,” Kathy says. “It will be a fun day for everyone.”
