In October
“She’ll be coming ‘round the mountain when she comes….” You can watch 2 model trains coming around the mountain, through the tunnel and over the bridge of the large historic layout in the St. Johns Depot by dropping by on a Sunday afternoon in October.
The Depot will be open each Sunday, October 3, 10, 17, 24 and 31 between 1:00 and 4:00 p.m. for all to enjoy before the Depot goes into hibernation for the winter. The Jerry Banks layout isn’t complete yet, but viewers can watch the trains making their rounds past scenery that includes scale models of a three-ring circus, the Knapp’s Building and the Turner-Dodge Mansion, all hand-crafted by the late Jerry Banks of Lansing.
Additionally, there will be tours of the Ann Arbor Crew Car and the Railroad Post Office and Baggage Car sitting outside the Depot. Inside the main portion of the Depot are historic artifacts, original artwork of trains and a gift shop with train-related gifts for railroad enthusiasts of all ages.
The Clinton Northern Railway (CNR) Museum coordinates all of these Depot projects through the efforts of dedicated volunteers. CNR is a branch of the Clinton County Arts Council, which is partially funded through the Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs and the National Endowment for the Arts.
