John Hrncharik
John Hrncharik, age 82, of St. Johns, MI passed away Saturday, November 20, 2010 at his home.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Cyril’s Catholic Church Bannister, MI on Wednesday, November 24, 2010 at 11:00 A.M. Rev. Fr. Wolfgang Streichardt will officiate. Burial will follow at Ford Cemetery, Gratiot County, MI. Visitation will be held on Monday November 22, 2010 from 6-8 PM and Tuesday, November 23, 2010 from 3-8 PM, with a Rosary being prayed at 7:00 PM at Smith Family Funeral Homes Elsie Chapel Elsie, MI.
John was born in Bannister, Michigan on March 15, 1928, the son of Paul and Josephine (Klauda) Hrncharik. John married Mildred Karlik on November 19, 1949 in Bannister. After 49 years of marriage she passed away on March 4, 1999. John then married Evelyn Lockwood on November 17, 2000 in St. Johns. He resided most of his life in the Elsie area. John was a lifetime member of St. Cyril’s Catholic Church Bannister, MI. John loved playing cards, polka music and dancing, cutting wood and just being outdoors. Being with his family and friends was an important part of his life. John’s passion in life was farming.
John is survived by his wife Evelyn Hrncharik of St. Johns, MI, 4 daughters; Janet and Bill Archer of Laingsburg, MI, Paulette and John Anderson of Elsie, MI, Lynette and Jon Miller of Elsie, MI, Pamela and Kirk Wahlstrom of Owosso, MI, 2 step daughters; Glenda and Rex Ernst of St. Johns, MI, Donna and Bob Rummer of Hillman, MI, 9 grandchildren; Jeff Archer, Amy and Paul Brooks, Scott and Dawn Anderson, Steven and Corinna Anderson, Josh and Leyna Miller, Robin and Rory McVay, Michelle and Bryan Roberts, Phillip Wahlstrom, Korbin Wahlstrom; 8 great-grandchildren; sister Rose Mary and Bob Marks of Owosso, MI. He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife Mildred, 2 sisters Hilda Micka, Alice Fornusek and brother Paul Hrncharik.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Cyril’s Catholic Church or WOES Radio Station. The family is being served by Smith Family Funeral Homes Elsie Chapel Elsie, Michigan.
Willis O. West
Willis O. West, 75 of Elsie, Mi died peacefully at his home following a day of deer hunting on Nov. 20, 2010. Willis was born on Sept. 6, 1935 in Sioux City, IA the son of Samuel and Heneretta (Haymeyer) West. He graduated from Sioux City High School in 1955 and was a veteran of the U.S. Marines. On Nov. 22, 1974 he married Phyllis A. Pearce in St. Johns, MI. Willis was a carpenter and a manager of a convenience store for Sunoco Oil in Flint from where he retired. Willis was an avid hunter, he loved his family and helping out others. He made hats for children and troops overseas and always gave a giving hand. He was a member of the Elsie Masonic Lodge.
He is survived by his wife Phyllis; daughters, Danita (Norman) Rewerts of St. Johns and Dawn (Greg) Rademacher of Elsie; daughter in law Kelly West of St. Johns, 14 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, 4 brothers and 1 sister, son Matthew West and grandson Andrew Nelson.
Services will be held at Keck-Coleman Funeral Home, St. Johns on Tuesday, Nov. 30, 3020 at 11:00 A. M. with Pastor Perry Purcell officiating. The family will receive friends and relatives at the funeral home, 9:00 A.M. until service time on Tuesday. Memorials may be directed to the family. Betty A. Aldrich
Betty A. Aldrich, 83 of Ovid, MI died Friday, Nov. 19, 2010 at Memorial Healthcare Center in Owosso. Betty was born on April 14, 1927 in Ovid, MI the daughter of Myron and Ethel (Stanhope) Shinabery. Betty graduated from Ovid High School in 1944 and on Sept. 2, 1944 she married William Aldrich in Elsie, MI. She loved rides in the car, golf and time with her family.
She is survived by her husband, William; daughters, Carol (Larry) Smith and Angie (Bob) Lawrence Jr. both of Ovid; 5 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren and sister, Juanita Kadlek of Ovid. She was preceded in death by her brother, Robert Shinabery and half sister, Lenore Leach.
Memorial services will be held at Keck-Coleman Funeral Home, St. Johns on Friday November 26, 2010 at 11:00 A.M. with Pastor Larry Smith officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home starting at 10:00 A.M. until service time Friday. Memorial contributions may be made to the Ovid Public Library or Breast Cancer Research.
Bernadette M. Pung
Bernadette M. Pung, passed away on Thursday, November 18, 2010 at the age of 80. Bernadette was born February 1, 1930 in Dallas Twp. to William and Julie (Stump) Theis. Bernadette was a member of Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church. She married Donald William Pung in Fowler, Michigan, on February 15, 1950 and he survives her.
Also surviving are daughters, Sue (Jim) Thelen and Sharon (Chris) Fink; sons, Dale (Linda) Pung and Randy (Deanna) Pung; 9 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. Bernadette is also survived by her sister, Joan Platte; brother, Julius (Marilyn) Theis and sister-in-law, Germaine Pohl. Bernadette was preceded in death by her parents, son, Gary Pung, brother, Jerome Theis and brother-in-law, Kenneth Platte.
The Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, November 22, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Fowler, burial will follow at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Goerge Chapel of the Osgood Funeral Homes in Fowler 7 to 9 p.m. on Saturday with a rosary at 8 pm and 2-4 and 7-9 pm on Sunday with Rosaries at 3 p.m Sunday with a prayer service at 8 p.m. Sympathy may be expressed in the form of memorials to the American Diabetes Association, Sparrow Hospice House of Mid Michigan or a charity of the donor’s choice. Maxine L. Walton
Maxine L. Walton, died November 18, 2010, at the age of 91. Born in Bingham Twp., on April 7, 1919, the daughter of John and Anna (Wekenman) Doyle. Maxine was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church. She married Chester Walton on June 10, 1941, and he preceded her in death April, 24, 1999.
Surviving her is son, Dale (Joann) Walton of St. Johns, daughters, Bette (Jim) Potts of Conklin, MI, and Jean Walton of Haslett, seven grandchildren, Mike (Beth) Potts, Matt (Lisa) Potts, Marie (John) Geerlings, Aaron (Karla) Potts, Greg (Maureen) Walton, Scott (Krista) Walton and Angie (Chris) Richards, sixteen great grandchildren, Molly, Ryan, Zach, Cody, Justin, Ivy Mae, Riley, Fisher, Trent, Samantha, Logan, Ethan, Kimberly, Jessi, Madison and Sarah, also many nieces and nephews. Along with her husband, Chester, she was preceded in death by, three sisters, Geraldine Stewart, Margaret Dershem and Julia Jury, two brothers, Gaylord and Raymond Doyle.
Funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m., on Saturday, November 20, 2010, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, with Rev. Fr. Eoin Murphy officiating, burial to follow at Mt. Rest Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Osgood Funeral Home, Friday 4 -8 p.m., with a Vigil Service held at 7 p.m. Contributions may be made in memory of Maxine to the Hospice House of Mid-Michigan.
Marcie Jo Straub
Marcie Jo Straub, 5-month-old daughter of Howard R. and Jamie (Woodhams) Straub III of Fredericktown, Ohio died Wednesday November 17, 2010 at Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus following a brief illness. Marcie was born June 24, 2010 in Mount Vernon, Ohio.
Surviving besides her parents are her sisters Marie Josephine, Heidi Jo and Hollie Jo all of the home; grandparents Howard R and Mary Jo Straub Jr. and Jack and Sharon Woodhams all of Saint Johns, Michigan; great grandparents Phyllis Gilroy and Dick and Marie Woodhams all of Saint Johns, Michigan and Inez Giles of Leslie Michigan. Marcie was preceded in death by great grandparents Howard R and Dorothy Straub Sr., John Bappert, Robert Gilroy and Richard Carlson.
Friends may call Sunday November 21, 2010 from 1pm to 3pm at the Snyder Funeral Home, 33 East College Street, Fredericktown, Ohio 43019. The family will also receive friends on Tuesday November 23, 2010 from 11am to 2pm at the First Church Of God, 1063 South Dewitt Road, Saint Johns, Michigan 48879. Funeral services will be Tuesday following the visitation at the church and burial will follow at Lowe Cemetery near Saint Johns.
