Douglas W. Cook
Douglas W. Cook died Sunday, December 12, 2010 at the age of 76. He was born January 15, 1934 in Ovid, Michigan, the son of Wayne and Beatrice (Stuart) Cook. Doug was a graduate of Rodney B. Wilson High School in St. Johns, Class of 1952 and attended Michigan State University taking agriculture classes. He was a member of Lowe United Methodist Church and served as a lay speaker, was a member of the Gideons and was a Boy Scout Leader. He was inducted into The Greater Lansing Area Sports Hall of Fame (G.L.A.) for football, St. Johns class of 1951 and played semi-pro football. Doug loved his family, gardening, horticulture and traveling. He served in the Michigan National Guard, retiring after 23 years with the rank of Major. He was founder and owner of Agro-Culture Liquid Fertilizers in St. Johns. On September 20, 1952 he married Eloise Bruursema and she survives him.
Also surviving are one son Chris (Elaine) Cook of Holland, MI; three daughters, Debora (Allan) Goward of Ovid, Jill (Troy) Bancroft of St. Johns and Lisa (Donald) Ruff of Frankfort, MI; ten grandchildren; five great grandchildren; his twin sister, Diane (Charles) Hazel of St. Johns and brother Norman (Ellen) Cook of Arizona. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister Jane Squires and brother Wells Cook.
Funeral services will be held 11:00AM Thursday, December 16, 2010 at Keck-Coleman Funeral Home, St. Johns with Pastor Kathy Leydorf and Pastor Donald Ruff officiating. Private interment will take place at Lowe Cemetery. The family will receive relatives and friends 2-4 and 6-8PM Wednesday at the funeral home. Military honors are provided by the St. Johns Honor Guard. Memorials may be made to Lowe United Methodist Church or The American Cancer Society.
Marie A. Fox
Marie A. Fox, passed away on December 12, 2010, at the age of 89. Marie was born in Saginaw, Michigan on April 10, 1921, the daughter of immigrant parents, Alois and Elizabeth (Solner) Rehmann. On July 26, 1943 Marie married Mark Fox in St. Johns, Michigan. Marie was a member of Most Most Trinity Catholic Church in Fowler. As a loving and spiritual woman, her family, church, friends and neighbors were the major focus in her life. Marie was an outstanding homemaker who excelled at cooking and baking and was the bookkeeper in her family’s business, Rehmann’s Clothing in St. Johns.
Marie is survived by her husband, Mark; children, Donald Fox, Robert Fox, Dianne (Pat Mullins) Fox, Beth (Terry) Kret, and Michael Fox; grand children, Nicole (Oliver) Adams-Kraus, Amy and Sara Adams, Mark Fox, Joseph and Ann Mullins, Marcus, Jennifer and Andrew Kret and great grand daughter, Stella Marilyn Kraus, and many nieces and nephews. Marie was preceded in death by her parents, and her daughter, Marilyn (Fox) Adams; sisters, Dorothy Wieber and Eleanor Hammond and brothers, John and Norbert Rehmann.
The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m., on Thursday, December 16, 2010, at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Fowler with Fr. Dennis Howard presiding and internment at Most Holy Trinity Cemetery following the Mass. The family will receive friends 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday with rosaries being prayed at 3 and 8, at the Goerge Chapel of Osgood Funeral Home in Fowler. Sympathies may be expressed through contributions to the Mark and Marie Fox Scholarship Fund, Sparrow Hospice or the Most Holy Trinity Educational Trust Fund. Robert Everett Thompson
Robert “Bob” Everett Thompson, age 73, of St. Johns, MI and Punta Gorda, FL died Friday, December 10, 2010 at University Of Michigan Hospital, Ann Arbor, Michigan.
A Memorial Service will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes St. Johns Chapel St. Johns, Michigan on Monday, December 13, 2010 at 11:00 A.M. Visitation will be held on Sunday, December 12, 2010 from 4-7 p.m. at Smith Family Funeral Homes, St. Johns Chapel.
Bob was born in Alma, Michigan on June 4, 1937, the son of Everett Edmond and Evelyn E. (Jordan) Thompson. He graduated from Michigan State University with the class of 1959. Bob had resided most of his life in St. Johns, Michigan and on August 22, 1997 he married Patricia Fox in St. Johns, Michigan. He was a banker for many years and was the President of Old Kent Bank, in St. Johns, Michigan retiring in 1998. Bob was involved in forming a committee to bring Firstbank of St. Johns to the community 11 years ago, and also had served on that bank board. Bob was a member of Elks Lodge, St. Johns Rotary, Clinton Memorial Hospital Board, Boy Scouts of America, and many other community organizations, in addition he started the CAPIT program in Clinton County, Michigan.
Survivors include his wife, Patricia (Fox) Thompson of St. Johns, MI, son Robert M. and Jill Thompson of Denver, CO, Michael S. Thompson of St. Johns, MI, Brian A. Thompson of Grand Rapids, MI, Brad J. Thompson of Dewitt, MI, Stepchildren Teresa and Jerry Garback of Bradenton, FL, Tammie Hiatt of Tampa, FL, James and Michelle Fox of Ada, MI, 9 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild, mother Evelyn Thompson of Crystal, MI, sisters; Karen Richards of Crystal, MI, Kathy and Jeff Gerlich of Greenville, MI, brother Ronald Thompson of Butte, MT, Randy and Linda Thompson of Greenville, MI, and by many nieces, nephews and friends. He was predeceased by his, father, and 1 brother Richard.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to JDRF 5075 Cascade Road, Suite F Grand Rapids, MI 49546 in honor of Bob’s granddaughter Sophie Thompson or to Families of Spinal Muscular Atrophy (FSMA) P.O.
