Computers for Kids drawing is a winner

Christmas was extra special this year for Dalton Howes, grandson of Betty and Duane Thompson of St. Johns. Betty entered the Computers for Kids drawing and was one of the lucky winners. Dalton will now be able to learn computer skills on his very own computer designed specifically for his age group.
In addition, two other St. Johns residents were winners of the computers for children in their families, Emily Haubert and Diane Western.

The “Computers for Kids” program, organized by Gary Fritz, Conservation District Executive Director and his son Chris, is in its third year of refurbishing donated computers and installing updated software for local area kids. In this case, the remaining 15 computers were donated to Habitat for Humanity of Clinton County, where they will be sold at a very reasonable price and the proceeds will help Habitat build their next home for a family in need of a decent, affordable and safe place to live. Habitat’s plan is to break ground in Spring 2011 on donated property in Ovid.
“We are grateful to Gary Fritz for his generous donation to Habitat and to be able to be a part of the Computers for Kids program. Together, we served three local children, and the proceeds from the remaining sales will help serve a low income family in need of a safe, decent and affordable place to live. It’s a win-win,” said Sue Carroll, Executive Director of Habitat for Humanity of Clinton County.
