Clinton Avenue in the early years

This photo of Clinton Ave. looking south was taken in the early days of St. Johns. The street was dirt as we can see by the wheel marks from the horse and buggies. No need for gas stations at this time, just a hitching post.
The Courthouse gives off the appearance that it wasn’t finished yet.
[Editor’s note: The courthouse clock is missing in the photo. It was installed in 1904 and started on December 31, 1904 at midnight, just in time to ring in the new year.]
