Converting Abstract Records to File Cards
by Barry Bauer

This 3 ½ year project to convert 394 abstract books to 286,000 file cards was almost complete when this 1939 photo was taken. Shown here are Bernice Plunkett, left, Leon Budd, county abstractor, and Ann Kapral, right. Barely visible in the background is Marie Arens.

While Mr. Budd checks a book, Ann Treiber holds one of the cards from the card file cases in the background. The new card file system makes the operation very efficient which helps the sale of abstracts to become even a bigger money-maker for the county.
