Richarda Ann (Giessinger) Monson
Richarda Ann (Giessinger) Monson died peacefully in her sleep at the age of 92, March 20, 2011 in St. Johns, Michigan. Richarda was born on August 1, 1918 in Selz, North Dakota, the daughter of John and Regina (Lesmeister) Giessinger. She met and married Fredric M. Monson in Minnesota and Fredric preceded her in death in 1978. Richarda was a dental assistant and office manager for many years. Her love of family, commitment to volunteerism, and loyalty as a friend made up a legacy that she has passed on to her family. Even at 92, Richarda loved to play Scrabble and worked the New York Times crossword puzzle daily.
Richarda is survived by her children, Bengt (Ann) Monson of Minnesota, Fredric (Josefina) Monson of Texas, John Monson of Texas, Mark (Charmaine) Monson of Michigan and Helen (David) O’Dell also of Michigan, 13 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and 1 great, great grandchild. She is also survived by her sisters, Margaret Schmidt of South Dakota and Marie Trandall of Wyoming and sister-in-law, Florence Giessinger of Flint and brother, Eugene (Nancy) Giessinger of South Dakota. Along with her parents and her husband, Richarda was preceded in death by her brother, Leo Giessinger and brother-in-law, Kermit Schmidt.
Mass of funeral burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM, Thursday, March 24, 2011 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in St. Johns with Rev. Fr. Eoin Murphy as celebrant. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the mass at 9 AM at the Osgood Funeral Home. In Lieu of flowers the family has requested that memorial contributions be sent to Clinton County Senior Center or WKAR Public Television.

Foster D. “Crash” Schmidtman
Foster D. “Crash” Schmidtman, 95, passed away on Saturday, March 19, 2011 in Northville, Michigan. He was born in Pompeii, Michigan, December 10, 1915, the son of Herman and Elizabeth (Foster) Schmidtman. Foster married Florence Sieb on September 17, 1949 in Angola, Indiana and Florence preceded him in death on June 4, 2008. Crash was a member of the First Baptist Church of Elsie and V.F.W. Post #8964. He retired from Gordon Foods as the Head of their Fleet Maintenance.
Crash is survived by his sister, Betty (Glenn) Sandlin and brothers, Richard (Doris) Schmidtman and Dale (Evie) Schmidtman and many nieces and nephews. Along with his parents and his wife, Foster was preceded in death by his brother, Don Schmidtman.
Funeral Service will be 12:00 P.M. Thursday, March 24, 2011 at the First Baptist Church of Elsie at 233 W. Main St. with Rev. Ralph Parkin and Rev. Murl Eastman officiating. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery in Ovid. The family will receive friends at the church at 11:00 AM. Sympathies may be expressed in the form of memorial contributions to the First Baptist Church of Elsie or the American Cancer Society. The family was served by the Osgood Funeral Homes.


Kathleen Faye “Kathy” Manarik
Kathleen Faye “Kathy” Manarik, 60, of Ovid, died March 3, 2011. She was born July 26, 1950, the daughter of Rudolph A. and Amelia V. (Niko) Minarik in St. Johns. Kathy graduated from Ovid-Elsie High School and worked for MAHLE Engine Components USA in St. Johns for the past 10 years.
She is survived by her daughters, Shannon Guerrero of Mobile, Alabama, Amelia Pouch of Battle Creek; son, Melvin Pouch, Jr. of Warsaw, Indiana; grandchildren, Andrew Guerrero, Travis Guerrero, Valarie Shaffer, Wyndie Williams and Melvin Pouch III; and sisters, Lorraine Fett and Lucille Reed . She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Geraldine Minarik and brother, Arnold Minarik.
Kathy enjoyed baking, cooking…especially cooking barbecue, arts and crafts and ceramics. But mostly, she loved her grandchildren.
A memorial service will take place 1:00 p.m. Saturday, March 26, 2011 at Z.C.B.J. Hall in Bannister, Michigan. The family is being served by Shaw Funeral Home, Battle Creek.


Chris Eugene Lincoln Price
Chris Eugene Lincoln Price, age 18, of Fowler, passed away, unexpectedly, Sunday, March 13, 2011. He was born on July 8, 1992 to Chris and Tina (Wright) Price in St. Johns. Chris was a student in St. Louis in the TMI program. He enjoyed fishing, camping, swimming, biking and bowling.
Chris is survived by; his mother, Tina (Larry Baker) Wright of Fowler; his father, Chris Price of Perrinton; his sister, Bridgett Price of Big Rapids; grandparents, Gene and Mary Price of Perrinton and Juanita Wright of Middleton. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, James Wright.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 17, 2011 at 11:00 am at the Dodge Funeral Home in Middleton. Officiating will be Rev. Clare Huyck and burial will be in Payne Cemetery in Middleton. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-8pm at the funeral home. Donations may be made to Tim Ferguson for “Chris’ Classroom.”


Genevieve E. Thelen
Genevieve E. Thelen, passed away March 17, 2011, at the age of 90. She was born on April 12, 1920, in Dallas Township, Michigan, the daughter of Jacob and Elizabeth (Smith) Harr. She was a member of Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Fowler, Michigan.
Genevieve married Jerome J. Thelen on February 19, 1941 and he preceded her in death on April 12, 2005. She is survived by eight sons, Paul (Ann) of Westphalia, James of Lansing, Luke (Jane) of Fowler, Larry (Ellen) of Denver, Colorado, Bill (Debbie) of Dallas, Texas, Philip of East Lansing, Stanley (Patti) of Oxford, Michigan, Dennis (Dianna) of Ft. Wayne, Indiana; 23 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; her sister, Mary Jane Thelen, and her brother Roy Harr. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Diane Urbanik, grandchildren, Anthony Urbanik, Jamie Thelen, great grandson, Brandon Thelen, son in law, Tony Urbanik, sister, Sister Romilda Harr, and brother, Donald Harr.
Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, March 22, 2011, at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church, with burial at Most Holy Trinity Cemetery with Rev. Fr. Dennis Howard presiding. The family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. on Sunday 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. on Monday at the Goerge Chapel of the Osgood Funeral Homes, Fowler, with rosaries being prayed Sunday, at 8 p.m. and Monday, at 3 p.m. with a vigil service at 8 p.m. on Monday. Memorials can be made in memory of Genevieve for the Most Holy Trinity Educational Trust Fund, or memorial masses.
