Letter – A Respectful Rally

update.gif Thursday, March 31, 2011 From 5:30 – 7:00 P.M.
Dear Friends,
I am organizing a rally here in St. Johns against the proposed budget that Gov. Snyder has brought forward. I feel it is important that people know that not all folks here in Clinton County agree with what’s going on in Lansing. With the Governor and Lt. Governor both being in St. Johns this Thursday, I feel that it gives us a chance to be locally involved in the political process, showing disappointment in the Governor’s approach to economic reform.
Thanks,
Bill Tennant

Governor Rick Snyder will be the keynote speaker for the Clinton County Republican Party annual Lincoln Day Dinner on Thursday, March 31 at the Mint Banquet Center in downtown St. Johns. The Banquet Center is located on E. Walker St. between N. Clinton and Spring St. Lieutenant Governor Brian Calley will also be attending. The dinner will start at 7:00 p.m.
There will be a pre-dinner reception starting at 6:00 p.m. in The Mint Restaurant at 200 N. Clinton Ave., right next door to the west of the Banquet Center. Governor Snyder and Lt. Governor Calley are scheduled to be in attendance at the pre-dinner reception.
I would like to get as many people as possible in downtown St. Johns that evening to rally in opposition to the governor’s proposed budget. Here are the details:
What: A Respectful Rally
Focus: The Budget
Who: Educators, Municipal Leaders, Seniors, Etc.
When: Thursday, March 31, 2011 From 5:30 – 7:00 P.M.
Where: Downtown St. Johns – 100 Block Of E.Walker Street
I am calling this a Respectful Rally – we definitely need to have a presence at this event – we also need to work with our republican legislators around the state and don’t want to totally turn them against us. I want this rally to focus solely on the budget – not confusing it with the many other issues out there. We need to draw attention to the inequities in this proposed budget, the unfairness of the cuts to education, how this will truly affect students, and anything else connected with the finances involved. Come with signs and talking points. The media will be contacted. Would be great to see a huge number of people actively involved in the political process.
I’d like to have people start arriving around 5:00 p.m. We want to be in place as our republican friends start to arrive – staying in place until they transition to the Banquet Center for dinner at 7:00 or a little later? You can park anywhere in the downtown area – just a short walk to the rally.
Please make plans to attend – invite other interested people – we need to make a statement that this budget is not acceptable – it needs to be redone! Thanks – see you on the 31st.
