They've been working on the railroad

The volunteer railroad crew at the depot is getting back into full swing working on the historic railcars again now that the cold weather is subsiding.
Come meet some of the Railroad Crew members at the St. Johns Depot on Sunday, May 1 at 1:00 PM. They will introduce themselves and talk about what they have been doing the past few years to restore an important part of history for the enjoyment of all who stop by.
The volunteer railroad crew is getting back into full swing working on the historic railcars again now that the cold weather is subsiding. Their major task at this point is the restoration of the 1904 wooden caboose so it can be moved to the tracks outside the depot. Once the siding and roof are repaired and restored, they will turn their attention this summer to the restoration of the exterior of the Sault Ste. Marie, which is a 1902 sleeping car.
Anyone interested in lending their skills on these exciting projects, is welcome. Please call Gary McCampbell at 989-224-6134 or 502-541-0811 (cell phone).
The Clinton County Arts Council (CCAC) is once again renting the St. Johns Depot from the City of St. Johns from May through October so the public can enjoy the historic artifacts and model train layout within. They plan to have the depot and historic railcars open every Sunday afternoon, 1:00 – 3:00 PM, and on Thursdays during the day whenever possible. Come on down.
The Clinton County Arts Council is privileged to receive some operating expenses from the Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs and the National Endowment for the Humanities. However none of that goes toward the supplies needed to restore the railcars.
