Emily K. Goerge
Emily K. Goerge passed away Monday, May 2, 2011 after a long and courageous battle with cancer at the age of 13. She was born March 28, 1998 in St. Johns, Michigan the daughter of Brian and Mary Kay (Jandernoa) Goerge. She was a member of Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church and was a proud member of No More Sidelines. Emily loved spending time at the cottage with her cousins, and loved her dog Sid. Emily had a love for people and a natural gift of making them smile. She enjoyed playing cards and many games with her family and friends.
Surviving are her parents, Brian and Mary Kay; two brothers, Alex and Trent; grandparents, Dick and Dorothy Jandernoa and Ted and Helen Thelen all of Fowler and many loving aunts, uncles and cousins. She was preceded in death by a grandfather, Robert Goerge.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:30 AM Friday, May 6, 2011 at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Fowler with Rev. Fr. Dennis Howard as Celebrant. Rite of Committal will follow at Holy Trinity Cemetery. The family will receive relatives and friends 2-4 and 7-9 PM Wednesday, May 4 with a Rosary prayed at 3:00 PM at Most Holy Trinity Church Activity Center 11159 W. Kent St. Fowler. Visitation will continue at the Activity Center on Thursday, May 5 from 3:30 to 8:30 PM. Arrangements and service are provided by Keck-Coleman Funeral Home, St. Johns.
Gary L. Wreggelsworth
Gary L. Wreggelsworth, 64 formerly of St. Johns and Ovid, MI died Monday, May 02, 2011 in Jackson, MI. Gary was born on May 12, 1946 in Ovid the son of William and Ida (Jones) Wreggelsworth. He graduated for Carson City High School and had worked at Lear Corp in Elsie, MI for several years. Gary was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corp. serving in Viet Nam where he was injured by enemy fire. Gary enjoyed hunting and fishing and working with disabled veterans.
He is survived by his son Gary G. Wreggelsworth of Lansing, daughter, Dawn (Mike) Janetzke of Lansing and special friend Mabel Peck; grandchildren, Gary Gayle and Emily Rose Wreggelsworth, Rik, Brian and Drew Janetzke; brothers, Kenneth (Billie) Wreggelsworth of Lansing, and Francis (Rose) Wreggelsworth of Detroit and a sister, Sharon Donaldson of DeWitt, MI. He was preceded in death by his parents and 10 brothers and sisters.
Funeral services will be held at Keck-Coleman Funeral Home on Saturday, May 7, 2011 at 2:00 P.M. with Pastor Larry Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, Owosso, MI. The family will recieve friends and relatives at the funeral home on Friday, May 6, 2011, 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. Memorials may be made to Disabled American Veterans or his grandchildren.
Ronald D. Lyon
Ronald D. Lyon, 66, Ocala, FL, formerly of DeWitt, MI passed away April 30, 2011 in Okemos, Michigan. Ron was a 1962 graduate of Rodney B. Wilson High School, St. Johns, MI. He later earned his bachelor and masters degrees in Criminal Justice from Michigan State University. After serving three years in the U.S. Army, he joined the Lansing Police Dept. as a Patrolman. He also was co-partner of J&R Consulting Services, Inc. He retired from the LPD as a Detective after 26 years of service in 1992. Subsequently, Ron was an Associate Professor and Assistant Director of the Law Enforcement Academy at Walters State Community College, Morristown, TN. He then was Criminal Justice Instructor and BLET Director at Bladen Community College, Dublin, NC. He was a member of the MSU Alumni Assn. and the Ralph J. Green American Legion Post #354 as well as attended Living Water Wesleyan Church, Dunnellon, FL. Preceding him in death was his parents and brother, Robert D. Cantley.
Surviving are his wife of 46 years, Adella (Dolly) Lyon; children, Timothy Lyon, Annette (Keith) Bergquist, and Christopher (Heather) Lyon; brothers, Melvin (Donna) Cantley, Jr. and John (Patsy) LeCroy; sister, Sara (Lawrence) Wight; grandchildren, Tyler, Jessie, Zachary, and Sydney; Tyler, Keenan, Jade, Joselyn, and Alessandra.
Funeral services will be held 1:00 PM Thursday, May 5, 2011 at Keck-Coleman Funeral Home, St. Johns, MI with Rev. Ken Douglas officiating. Interment will follow at Wilsey Cemetery. The family will receive relatives and friends 6-8 PM Tuesday and 2-4 and 6-8 PM Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Hospice Advantage Inc. 801 S. Waverly Rd. Clement U. Thelen
Clement U. Thelen died on May 1, 2011 at the age of 74. Born August 16, 1936, the son of Edward and Clotilda (Miller) Thelen. Clement married Josephine Martin on January 17, 1959 in Westphalia Michigan and she survives him. He was a member of Most Holy Trinity Parish in Fowler, as well as the Knights of Columbus, Catholic Order of Foresters and the VFW Post # 3733.
Along with his wife, Clement is survived by daughters, Cheryl (Paul) Pung, LuAnn (Gary) Schneider, sons, Kurt (Janell) and Joel (Debra) Thelen, grandchildren, Derek, Ryan, Lee and Brent Pung, Scott and Eric (Courtney) Schneider, Nicole (Kevin) Long, Gwen (Lucas) Hevel, Rachel (Domic) Feldpausch, Tonya, Andrea, Mitchel, Jarrid, Sabrina and Brice Thelen, great grandchildren, Canden, Carly and Brynlee Schneider, Porter, Madison and Taylor Long and Colt Hevel. Clement is also survived by sisters, Evelyn (Eugene) Thelen, Ermaline Fedewa, brothers, Eugene (Margret) and Kenneth (Char) Thelen, and brother-in-law, Roman Feldpausch.
Along with his parents he was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Michelle Schneider, sisters, Marina, Julie (Norbert), Doloris (Dick) and brothers, Melvin (Mary), Leonard (Rose) and Louis (Monica).
Funeral Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on, Thursday, May 5, 2011 at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Fowler, with Fr. Dennis Howard presiding. Burial will follow mass at Most Holy Trinity Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday and Wednesday 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. with rosaries being prayed at 3 p.m. Tuesday and 3 and 8 p.m. Wednesday with a scripture service at 8 p.m. on Tuesday at the Goerge Chapel of The Osgood Funeral Homes. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of his family’s choice.
George Wilber
George Wilber, better known locally and nationally as “Shuffteboard George”, died April 3, 2011 at the age of 81. Born September 21,1929, to Howard and Gladys Wilber in Vernon, Michigan, he grew up in Ovid, graduating from OHS in 1948. Those with roots in the small town of Ovid will remember him as the “gutsy kid” who earned letters in all sports despite losing his right leg in a train accident at the age of 13. those in Lansing and throughout Michigan will remember him as a dedicated table shuffleboard player, organizer, teacher, promoter, and all-around “guru” of the sport. He was recognized by the Greater Lansing Shuffleboard League in 1996 for 25 years of dedication and commitment to the sport. He and his wife Donna were honored for their efforts to promote me growth of table shuffleboard through publication of a national publication called “The Board Talk.” They were inducted into the Michigan Shuffleboard Hall of fame and the National Shuffleboard federation, Inc. for extraordinary contributions to the sport. In 2004, George was honored by Michigan players as the first and foremost pioneer and legend, for his dedication to fair play, teaching and promoting the sport While he was proud of the recognition of his peers, no roue was more meaningful to him than being “Papa” to his five great-grandchildren, whom he loved With all his heart and soul.
He is survived by his daughters Teri Elkins fiancé Sam Barnett Jr.. Lansing, and Robyn Wilber, Charlotte; grandsons Kelly and Dawn Elkins, Kory Elkins: former granddaughter-in-law Tabatha Rupert: great-grandchildren Quentin, Logan, Lauren, Sophia and Victoria Elkins, all of Lansing: brother Robert Wilber of Ovid: sister Jennielee Bowen of Kendallville, Indiana, and DeLoris and Roy Harger off St. Johns; brother-in-law Ron and Maxine Matson of St. Johns: and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Donna Wilber, sister Ruth Malato, parents and grandparents, his son·in-law Donald Elkins, his step-mother Velma: his brother-in-law Ward Matson, his mother-in-law Elizabeth Ruona, and his nephew Bruce Bowen.
Celebration of his life will be held May 7, 2011 at 12·00 pm at Keck-Coleman Funeral Home, 1500 Waterford Pkwy. SI. Johns, MI. Visitation will be held 2 hours prior the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice House of Mid-Michigan, 1210 W. Saginaw, Lansing Ml 48915 in memory of George.
Scott A. Wilkie
Scott A. Wilkie died Thursday, April 28, 2011 at the age of 51. He was born September 8, 1959 in Lansing, Michigan the son of Glen and Kay (Barnes) Wilkie. Scott was a graduate of St. Johns High School, Class of 1977 and General Motors Skilled Trades School. He enjoyed spending time at the Eagles Lodge, fishing and weekends at his cabin. He loved MSU football and enjoyed cooking for family and friends. He retired from skilled trades at General Motors. On June 24, 1978 he married Cynthia Krohn and she survives him.
Also surviving is one daughter, Melissa (Justin) Simmons of Ashley; one son, Nathan (Ashley) Wilkie of St. Johns; a granddaughter, Ashlyn Wilkie; his mother, Kay Wilkie of St. Johns; two sisters, Lynne (Rick) Priester of St. Johns and Brenda Makara of Eureka; parents-in-law Geri and Dick Schultz of Lansing; sister-in-law, Debbie (Denny) O’Brien of DeWitt; two brothers-in-law, Mike (Mel) Krohn of Lansing and John (Kim) Krohn of Holt; his faithful dog Tuffy and many loving nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father and a brother Paul.
Funeral services will be held 11:00AM Monday, May 2, 2011 at Keck-Coleman Funeral Home, St. Johns with Pastor Dave Leisman officiating. Interment will follow at Eureka Cemetery. The family will receive relatives and friends 2-4 and 6-8 PM Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Ashlyn’s college education or St. Johns Elementary Schools.
Gayla Faye Walters
Gayla F. Walters, age 72 of Laingsburg, passed away on Tuesday, April 26, 2011 at Sparrow Health Systems in Lansing.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 30, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Watkins Brothers Funeral Home, Laingsburg Chapel with Pastor John Walworth officiating. The family will meet with friends on Friday from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will take place in Laingsburg Cemetery.
Gayla was born on May 19, 1938 in St. Johns, MI, the daughter of Earl Birdsley and Beryl Pilmore. She was a graduate of St. Johns High School. On December 29, 1956 she married Donald Walters in St. Johns, MI. Gayla retired from Michigan State University after 30 years where she was a secretary in the Micro Biology Dept. She loved to garden and make quilts.
She is survived by her husband of 54 years Donald, two children; Patricia Ann (Ken) Cochrane of Laingsburg and Patrick Walters of Laingsburg, grandchildren; Jennifer (Bradley)Jodway, Mereta(Randon)Slider, Patrick, Adam, Melissa(Stephen)Torres, Shannon Cochrane and (Jerrod)Haindel, and Shayne, great-grandchildren, Brayden, Deacon, Rylie, Teagan and Kayden, brother, Jack Birdsley and sisters, June Young and Shirley Birdsley. She was predeceased by her sister Jean Vitous.
