What do I think?

Labor Day, September 5, 2011. The MDA telethon is history and was obviously the first one without Jerry Lewis although some people were still looking for him to appear. Seems kind of strange but I don’t know the whole story and can’t really judge it fairly. It sounds like one of those somebody did something wrong things. Anyway, the sky was cloudy early in the day and the Sun was nowhere to be found. The thermometer said it was fifty-four degrees but it felt more like it was thirty which is below freezing. At least it didn’t reach absolute zero which is -459.67 °F. I don’t know about anybody else but I marked that on my calendar as the first day of winter and it isn’t even officially fall yet. We could easily have had a fire going in the fireplace that day but decided not to. The very next night it got down to forty-five.
What the hell happened to summer?
I think I’ve mentioned before that I used to hate fall but now that I’m in the fall of my years, I can relate to it and have soften my feelings about it. It’s like a classmate now. Yeah, there’s snow on the roof but the damned shingles keep sliding off. I think I should mention that I now have a problem with winter. When I was a whole lot younger I could flop in the snow and skate on the ice and call it fun. Not anymore. Nowadays if I’m flopping around in the snow chances are I’m having a heart attack. And when I come across a patch of ice in the driveway I break out in a sweat because I can go from vertical to horizontal in a millisecond.
If I have any doubts that I’m getting older I only have to break into a jog out on the street to remind myself that I’m no longer twenty-one. Of course I’m hoping somebody notices me when I go down. Yeah, I’ve aged a bit and with that I’ve become aware that as each generation passes, we replaced them by becoming the parents and then the grandparents of the new generation. We hope to do as good if not a better job.
Wonder if my snow blower will start right up?

I’ve mentioned before that I think the Detroit Lions will go 10-6 this year. Sports Illustrated also agrees with me plus they said the Lions will make the playoffs. The Lions finished the pre-season a perfect 4-0 but that doesn’t mean much. The last time they did that they went 0-16 during the regular season. It’s going to be fun if the Lions do make the playoffs and we get at least one more game out of them in January.
Even Betty will watch them in January because it’s the dead of winter and there’s nothing going on anyway. I’ll keep her entertained by cussing, screaming, and yelling during the game.
It’s quite a sight.
I’m still worried about our china doll quarterback, Matthew Stafford; our season depends a lot on him. Whenever he goes down I close my eyes and then just peek out of one eye to see if he got back up after being hit.
So far, so good.

Obama’s giving a speech tonight to a joint session of Congress. Is he going to tell us something we haven’t already heard? Hell no! It’ll be the same old BS.
Our government has tied our economy to their “One World Economy” dream and we can no longer expect to live like we have in the past. They have sacrificed our middle class so people in other parts of the World can have a higher standard of living.
And these are our representatives? Get used to it folks or be prepared to fire them.

A few thoughts:
The state of the nation is just like the weather, everybody’s talking about it but nobody’s doing anything.
I don’t like the video photography on the Carson Daly Show so I don’t watch it. It’s that simple.
I’ve been watching old time TV on DVDs which includes Milton Berle’s Texaco Star Theater. It was slapstick humor and would be considered corny today. I still love it.
In order to help the economy the government needs to relax its grip on the throats of American manufacturing and businesses.
There should be one last government mandate that says anyone in government who advocates ignoring the Constitution, more taxes, more regulations, and another war will be immediately fired! How’s that for a mandate of the people, for the people, and by the people.
Until the next time . . .
