A tax is a tax
If you’re a fiscally conservative Republican like I am, doesn’t it just break your heart and frustrate you to no end when you sometimes see our Republican leaders behaving far more like tax and spend Democrats than proud members of our Grand Old Party?
Governor Snyder’s administration wants to increase state revenues by an additional one billion dollars to restore Michigan’s roadways. And how do they plan on raising those revenues? Snyder is proposing raising our vehicle registration “fees” (per vehicle) by $120 a year. Since these so-called “fees” are due on our birthdays – that is one expensive birthday “present” we can all do without!
Every single Republican in both Clinton and Gratiot Counties I have spoken with understands full well when the government comes to confiscate our incomes, no matter what they try to call it, we are being hammered by yet again another tax increase. And during this tough economy, does anyone really believe that stripping away a full one billion dollars from Michigan’s residents personal incomes will help either our hardworking citizens or our state’s struggling businesses?
Our Republican representatives should be leading us into prosperity by lowering our tax burden and eliminating wasteful spending, not by ruining our birthdays by raising our taxes by $120 per vehicle and calling it a fee!
